海外TECH	DEV Community	Create react app vs Vite	https://dev.to/keefdrive/create-react-app-vs-vite-2amn	Create react app vs ViteI have always relied on the npm command create react app to create the starter files for any React js project It does what it says on the tin and creates all my starter template files setups a local dev server and dev environment Over the years I have become a little impatient because it takes around minutes to setup a basic barebones app Recently I have come to know about a faster way to setup React apps which also gives you all the useful features that create react app gives you too It is using a tool called Vite Vite is another build tool like Webpack create react app uses Webpack under the hood read more here In this post I will take you through the steps on how to install React js app using Vite and point out some differences too You can also see a video on the comparison of the two installation methods In the Video below You will discover that the installation time plus time to run local server is astonishingly fast for Vite So how do we start the ball rollingYou can refer to the Vite docs From there you can choose from a few methods to start off your installation We are going to use the template method In their docs the listed methods are npm xnpm init vite latest my vue app template vue npm extra double dash is needed npm init vite latest my vue app template vue yarnyarn create vite my vue app template vueBut these commands are for installing Vue js just as side note Vite was originally developed for Vue js but has been modified to use with other frameworks including React js For our case all we need to do is replace the keyword after template from vue to react And dont forget to replace the app name to your choosing So assuming that we are running npm version x we will run the following command npm init vite latest my react app template react Then we will cd into our directory and install the remainder of the starter files and run the dev server cd my react app npm install npm run devIf you goto the browser You should see a React logo with a counter and a button as below Directory structure of the our newly created appThe thing to note here is that main js is the root file that imports loads App js There is also a new file called vite config js this is circled in the above image This file is used to turn on and set new features for your build process I will come to this file in the next section below One last thing about importing files I have noticed that out the box this setup does not allow for absolute paths With create react app you can do import x from components x With Vite you have to do the relative pathing like import x from To fix this we need to change the vite config js file which looks like this import defineConfig from vite import reactRefresh from vitejs plugin react refresh export default defineConfig plugins reactRefresh we need to add an extra setting to resolve the path this change will go after the plugins settings It will end up looking like this after the change import defineConfig from vite import reactRefresh from vitejs plugin react refresh import path from path export default defineConfig plugins reactRefresh resolve alias path resolve dirname src and this will allow us to refer to paths as import x from component x IMPORTATNT to prefix with in path conclusionI did find Vite impressingly fast It took me secs to install and run on local server I have not done much heavy development using Vite but it looks promising It is too early for me to say if I will use it on any bigger projects in the future There are other methods of installing React js using Vite these methods are maintained by other communities Please leave comments on your experiences too	2021-09-22 16:18:16

a components folder and use that as a place to store your complete application this is not very scalable solution and the code becomes difficult to test or add features to I like to keep my code structure in a way so that they are easy to test being very obvious which makes adding features easy I am going to show you a way in which you can create a scalable architecture for a production React applications Tech StackFollowing are the technologies I generally use while creating a production ready scalable react application React with HooksRedux for state managementReact RouterCSS Modules or Sass ScssJest and React Testing Library Build tools and LintingI generally use Create React App for bootstrapping my react application and add some custom configuration using craco Create React App Configuration Override When a react application grows in size and complexity various problems also arise managing imports is one of them Aliases just makes importing from anywhere inside the project easy also moving files is a very less hassle you can easily do something like import Component from components my component You can set up craco in you project and add the following to craco config js to enable aliases const path require path module exports webpack alias components path resolve dirname src components images path resolve dirname src assets images Even your IDE can be set up to use these while auto importing components files As Create React App getting started template already comes bundled with eslint I tend to leave the linting to it and only add custom configurations if required to the eslint config file or else we are good to go Directory StructureFollowing are the top level folders assets place to keep all your static assets from images logos splash etc components shared reusable components like buttons form components select input layout wrapperslibs for javascript modules and also for custom hooksstore global redux storeutils utilities helper methodspages to store all the main views for our app most of the app is contained herecontexts it is optional but is used to store all the contexts used globally└ー src ├ーApp js ├ー assets ├ー components ├ー contexts ├ーindex js ├ー libs ├ー pages ├ー store └ー utilsApart from these you can also add types if using react with typescript but keep in mind these are a bit flexible like pages can be called views also you can separate javscript modules and hooks in two different directories ComponentsAll the shared components across the projects are stored here also further grouping is done by type for example forms layout etc Components have a single component js file with named exports its better to avoid default exporting which might create file name conflicts Most of the times we are trying to create our own form system or layout from bindings from different libraries like Formik and Material UI or ant design So I prefer to keep the files together in a folder so its easy to find them and work with them Following is in a way I create files for a component Component js Your React component goes herecomponent module css component scss All the styles related to this componentHere we have one thing to consider you can either create a test file here or create a similar structure in your tests folder like following └ー tests └ーComponents └ーComponent test jsOr As I prefer them to be together in the Components folder itself with the Component just makes them easier to find and concentrate on them Component test js tests cases related to your component└ーcomponents ├ーlayout └ーcontainer │├ーContainer features which will contain the reducers actions and as well as tests We will also have one index js file which will be our rootReducer which will be on the top most level of the store folder The used with Redux Toolkit or with Redux Sagas in place of reducers and action keywords it could be slices or sagas UtilsHere we will store all our utilities which will be used by the entire application Not all code bases need a utils folder but I recommend to have one to store all the global configurations and methods which can be used elsewhere in the app It can contain a helpers js file which can store all the different functions used Another for form validation we can create validations js and to store constants we can have one constants js└ーsrc └ーutils ├ーconstants js ├ーhelpers js └ーvalidations js Pages or ViewsHere lives are our main chunk of the application it can also be called views as each page is like a view in an application Anything inside a view is a page which will be used in a specific view AddRecipe page which will only be used in context to recipes route and UserProfile page will only be used on the users route The main advantage of storing our pages in this way instead putting all of the pages together inside components or pages is that it makes it very easy to understand the app structure If there are nested routes you can always add a nested views folder within the main route └ーsrc └ーpages └ーRecipes └ーAddRecipe ├ーAddRecipe js └ーAddRecipe test js ConclusionThis is my personal preference to setup a react based project webapp which scales when the code
