海外TECH DEV Community Protected Routes in React with Custom Hook & Context API https://dev.to/jeff_codes/protected-routes-in-react-with-custom-hook-context-api-363p Protected Routes in React with Custom Hook amp Context API TLDRCustom Protected Route Component Custom Hook React Context API Protected Route ️Github Repo Oftentimes we want to restrict what the user can see depending on if they are currently logged in or not It is a better user experience to hide a Profile Page with no data then displaying it to a user who is not authenticated While most of the logic to restrict a user s permissions should be done on the server side we still need a way to hide pages on the frontend This tutorial assumes that you already have the appropriate server side code implemented Hiding Authenticated Pages Resources Behind Protected Routes in ReactProtected routes to the rescue Protected routes or private routes are routes that are only accessible when a user is authorized logged in has the appropriate account permissions etc to visit them Setting up React with RoutingWe will be using react router dom to create routes that will render different pages react creates single page apps so each page is really just a component that is rendered Make sure to install it in your project npm i react router dom For the sake of this tutorial we will have different pages Home Public Page Do not have to be authenticated to view it Profile Protected Page Have to be authenticated to view it About Public Page Do not have to be authenticated to view it We need to add the BrowserRouter component to the main entry file of our application index tsx or index jsimport reportWebVitals from reportWebVitals import BrowserRouter from react router dom ReactDOM render lt React StrictMode gt lt BrowserRouter gt lt App gt lt BrowserRouter gt lt React StrictMode gt document getElementById root Let s also create a Navbar component so that we can go to the other pages import React from react import Link from react router dom function Navbar return lt div gt lt Link to gt Home Public lt Link gt lt Link to about gt About Public lt Link gt lt Link to profile gt Profile Protected lt Link gt lt div gt export default Navbar After that we need to setup our routes in our App tsx file App tsx or App jsimport React from react import App css import Switch Route from react router dom import Navbar from components Navbar import Home from Pages Home import Profile from Pages Profile import About from Pages About function App return lt div className App gt lt Navbar gt lt Switch gt lt Route path exact component Home gt lt Route path about exact component About gt lt Route path profile exact component Profile gt lt Switch gt lt div gt export default App If we run our app now we can see that the navigation is working Now we just need to know whether or not the user is authenticated Creating a Custom Auth Hook With the React Context APIIn order to keep track of whether or not the user is authenticated we can create a custom hook in conjunction with the React context API This will allow us to know if the user is authenticated no matter where are in the application Let s create a new file called useAuth tsx and add the following code src hooks useAuth tsximport React useState createContext useContext useEffect from react Create the context const AuthContext createContext null export const AuthProvider children gt Using the useState hook to keep track of the value authed if a user is logged in const authed setAuthed useState lt boolean gt false const login async Promise lt void gt gt const result await fakeAsyncLogin if result console log user has logged in setAuthed true const logout async Promise lt void gt gt const result await fakeAsyncLogout if result console log The User has logged out setAuthed false Mock Async Login API call TODO Replace with your actual login API Call code const fakeAsyncLogin async Promise lt string gt gt return new Promise resolve reject gt setTimeout gt resolve Logged In Mock Async Logout API call TODO Replace with your actual logout API Call code const fakeAsyncLogout async Promise lt string gt gt return new Promise resolve reject gt setTimeout gt resolve The user has successfully logged on the server return Using the provider so that ANY component in our application can use the values that we are sending lt AuthContext Provider value authed setAuthed login logout gt children lt AuthContext Provider gt Finally creating the custom hook export const useAuth gt useContext AuthContext Now we need to make sure that we add this new AuthProvider component to our root entry point file just like we did with the BrowserRoute component This is how all of our child components in the tree are able to see the values that we previously specified index tsx or index jsimport BrowserRouter from react router dom import AuthProvider from hooks useAuth ReactDOM render lt React StrictMode gt lt BrowserRouter gt lt AuthProvider gt lt App gt lt AuthProvider gt lt BrowserRouter gt lt React StrictMode gt document getElementById root Let s take this new hook out for a spin I have created a very basic Login amp Logout component They are as follows Login tsximport React from react import useAuth from hooks useAuth function Login Destructing our hook to get the login function const login useAuth return lt div gt lt button onClick login gt Login lt button gt lt div gt export default Login Logout tsximport React from react import useAuth from hooks useAuth function Logout Destructing our hook to get the logout function const logout useAuth return lt button onClick logout gt Logout lt button gt export default Logout When we click on the Login button we will be doing a fake login API call and setting the state of authed to true and the inverse for the logout button Pretty neat huh Now we need to create a protected route component that will consume our fancy new hook Creating a Protected Route ComponentUnfortunately react router dom does not provide us with a lt ProtectedRoute gt component But that won t stop us from creating our own This component will basically check the authed value from the useAuth hook If the user is authenticated then we will render the protected page if the user is not authenticated then we will redirect back to a public page ProtectedRoute tsx import React from react import Route Redirect from react router dom import useAuth from hooks useAuth We are taking in the component that should be rendered if the user is authed We are also passing the rest of the props to the lt Route gt component such as exact amp the pathconst ProtectedRoute component Component rest gt Getting the value from our cool custom hook const authed useAuth return lt Route rest render props gt If the user is authed render the component if authed return lt Component rest props gt else If they are not then we need to redirect to a public page return lt Redirect to pathname state from props location gt gt export default ProtectedRoute Now we can use this protected route and replace the regular route components for protected pages App tsximport Login from components Login import Logout from components Logout import Navbar from components Navbar import Home from Pages Home import Profile from Pages Profile import ProtectedRoute from components ProtectedRoute import useAuth from hooks useAuth import About from Pages About function App const authed useAuth return lt div className App gt lt Navbar gt authed lt Logout gt lt Login gt lt div style margin px gt lt span gt Auth Status authed Logged In Not Logged In lt span gt lt div gt lt Switch gt lt Route path exact component Home gt lt Route path about exact component About gt lt ProtectedRoute path profile exact component Profile gt lt Switch gt lt div gt As you can see from the above gif it is working as expected However there is a bug When the user refresh the page while on a protected route they are redirected back to the page How can we fix this Refresh Bug Persisting the Authentication StateThe reason that this bug is happening is because we are losing authed value when the user refreshes the page Because this value is defaulted to false in the useAuth hook the redirect logic is happening and sending the user back to the page There are a couple of ways that we could resolve this CookieIf your server is sending a cookie to the client after authentication you could use that cookie to verify that the user is logged in However if you are using the http only option on your cookie this will not be possible as the code won t be able to interact with the cookie But don t fear there are two other ways that this could still be accomplished Session StorageWe could save a value into session storage so that we can keep this value on page refresh However a savvy user could go into the dev tools and change this value This could pose a problem depending on your implementation Here is how you would implement this in the useAuth hook useAuth tsx export const AuthProvider children gt Get the value from session sotrage const sessionStorageValue JSON parse sessionStorage getItem loggedIn Use this value as the defalt value for the state const authed setAuthed useState lt boolean gt sessionStorageValue const login async Promise lt void gt gt const result await fakeAsyncLogin if result console log user has logged in setAuthed true sessionStorage setItem loggedIn true const logout async Promise lt void gt gt const result await fakeAsyncLogout if result console log The User has logged out setAuthed false sessionStorage setItem loggedIn false Authentication Endpoint CheckIf session storage won t work for your implementation then you could do an API call to your server to an authentication endpoint that verifies if the current user is logged in This is the most secure solution however it comes at the cost of having to do another API call Here is how you would implement this solution useAuth tsx export const AuthProvider children gt const authed setAuthed useState lt boolean gt false Store new value to indicate the call has not finished Default to true const loading setLoading useState lt boolean gt true Runs once when the component first mounts useEffect gt fakeAsyncLoginCheck then activeUser gt if activeUser console log fake async login check called setAuthed true setLoading false else setAuthed false setLoading false Mock call to an authentication endpoint const fakeAsyncLogin async Promise lt string gt gt return new Promise resolve reject gt setTimeout gt resolve Logged In return Expose the new loading value so we can consume it in App tsx lt AuthContext Provider value authed setAuthed login logout loading gt children lt AuthContext Provider gt We also need to make changes to the App tsx file We will need to use the new loading value and only render the routes if it is false This fixes the issue where the user would get redirected back to the home page because the authed value has not been updated yet Because we aren t rendering the lt ProtectedRoute gt component until after loading is done we can be sure that the authed value is accurate App tsxfunction App const authed loading useAuth return lt div className App gt lt Navbar gt authed lt Logout gt lt Login gt loading lt div gt Loading lt div gt lt gt lt div style margin px gt lt span gt Auth Status authed Logged In Not Logged In lt span gt lt div gt lt Switch gt lt Route path exact component Home gt lt Route path about exact component About gt lt ProtectedRoute path profile exact 海外TECH DEV Community Deno + Appwrite https://dev.to/asiancat54x/deno-appwrite-5271 Deno AppwriteHi there This post teaches you how you can use Appwrites Deno SDK to write Appwrite Functions Setting upYou should have cli version of deno installed Let s start learning Importing module and setting up the function APIAppwrite has the sdk for deno published to deno land We can import easily with the help of the package s url import as sdk from Create a Appwrite clientconst client new sdk Client Set apiEndpoint apiKey and projectIDNext we will require the above mentioned data and set it to the clientclient setProject projectId setEndpoint endPoint setKey apiKeyCreate a instance of the Function classconst functions new sdk Functions client Now that we have imported the import we will start interacting with the Appwrite s functions API Creating functionLets first get started by creating a function Now creating a function is pretty simple You just need to run a method and pass all the data for your new functionfunctions create foo node then gt console log Successfully created a new function catch error gt console log Error while creating a new function console log error Okay lets understand the code line by line functions create foo node then gt This line calls the function that creates the function The parameters are the following Name The first parameter states the name of the function You can give it a name of your choicePermissions The second parameter takes in a list of permission that you will allow your function means all the function You can find a list of all the permission hereRuntime The third parameter takes in the excecution runtime It can be one of the following java Java python Python ruby Ruby php PHP node Typescript JavaScript The next line is printing to console telling that the function was created successfully Now run the code by running deno run allow net main js and then go ahead to Function tab in appwrite s console You should see a new function being created Listing all the functionsNow at some point of time you will require to print all the available functions Here is how to you do it functions list then res gt let index res functions forEach function gt console log index function name index What is happening here So the first line basically fetches all the functions which are registered in our database Next we are iterations over all the functions Each function object looks like this Next we are just printing the name of each of the function Run the file by this command deno run allow net main jsThis should give the following output foo Getting functionsYou can get the details of a function using the function s id Here is how you can do it functions get dbcf then res gt console log Fetching details for function id res id console log Name res name console log Created at res dateCreated console log Status res status console log Runtime res runtime So in the first line we are fetching the function by id It returns a object with these key value pairs We then just print some of the properties to the console The output is like this Fetching details for function id dbcfName fooCreated at Status disabledRuntime node Updating functionsNow are you stuck at the place where you want to rename your function Its easy Appwrite provies a function to change the function s id name runtime etc Here is how you do it const newName Bar functions update dbcf newName then gt console log Successfully renamed the function catch err gt console log err So first we are initiating a variable with the new name of the function Next we are running the function and updating the function The parameters are as follows ID The id of the function that we want to changeName The new name for this functionPermissions New permissions for this function Rest Rest args are not required you can read those here Deleting functionsGot fed up by a function and want to delete it forever well its easy functions delete dbcf then gt console log Successfully deleted Well there isnt anything to explain here The function name and the parameter describes it The function delete the function from the database The parameter is the id of the function Function Creating tagsNow to create a tag use the following code functions createTag edcc foo somepath tar gz then gt console log Successfully created a new tag Now the first parameter takes in the id of the function target The second parameter takes in the name of the code extension command The last is the path of the zipped code Updating tag idYou can set a custom tag id and use them functions updateTag edcc foo tag then gt console log Succesfully changed the tag So we call the updateTag function It takes in two parameter first for the function id while the last for the new name of the tag Listing tagsSame as that for the function we may also require to print all the tags Here is how you can do it functions listTags edcc then res gt let index for const tag of res tags console log index tag id index So we are fetching all the tags available in a function Then we print the id of all the tags Getting tag dataNow we saw how to create tags list tags now to fetch a single one Here is how you can do it functions getTag edcc foo tag then res gt console log Tag id is res id The first param is for the function id and the second is for the tag s id Then we just do a simple console logging Deleting tagsAre you even fed up of the tag Here is how you delete it functions deleteTag edcc foo tag then gt console log Successfully deleted the tag Well this doesnt require a explanation Creating executionsAfter all the tiring work you now want your application to execute the functions properly Here is how you can create execution functions createExecution edcc then res gt console log Created an excecution So this creates up an execution of the function with the id which is passed as an argument Listing executionsNow do you want to get all the current user function execution logs As always its simple functions listExecutions edcc then res gt let index for const tag of res executions console log index tag id index The listExecutions function takes in the function id as a param It returns an list of objects of the executions Here is the format of the return value Getting executionLast but not the least get a single execution Here is how you can do it functions getExecution edcc eeace then res gt Play with the execution object So here you run the function getExecution which takes in the function id as the first parameter and the function id as the second parameter It returns a execution object with multiple different properties all about that execution ConclusionThanks for reading this post I hope that you will have understood how to use the function api with the deno sdk Github repositoryYou can get the code hereMy github account 2021-10-22 17:03:01

海外TECH Engadget ‘Dune’ is too big for your TV https://www.engadget.com/dune-movie-review-cinema-hbo-max-173051367.html?src=rss Dune is too big for your TVThe real world just felt too small when I stepped out of Denis Villeneuve s Dune There weren t any enormous spaceships ready to rocket off to planets in distant galaxies No Brutalist palaces amid endless desert vistas No building sized sandworms roaming about eager to devour anyone who disturbed them Just me and traffic on Atlanta s I This latest Dune adaptation isn t perfect ーit s at times emotionally empty and it s basically set up for a second movie we may never see ーbut it successfully transported me to the universe Frank Herbert created over half a century ago The film focuses on half of the novel telling the story of Paul Atreides Timothée Chalamet a sheltered baron s son who moves to the desert planet of Arrakis It s an important post since it s the only world that produces the melange or spice which powers interstellar travel But as Paul quickly learns it s also a dangerous place for his elite family and it s where he learns he may also be a potential messiah You know typical teen boy stuff Warner Bros and Legendary PicturesAfter being wowed by Dune in the theater I plan to rewatch it at home on HBO Max where it s also being released today But I m certain the experience won t be the same even on my inch projector screen This Dune demands to be seen on something even biggerーa place where your very sense of being can be dwarfed Dune made me feel like Paul Atreides standing in front of a skyscraper sized sandworm waiting to be consumed And I welcomed it Of course it s no simple thing to trek out to the cinema these days not with coronavirus still raging and fellow theatergoers refusing to take basic safety precautions The vaccines are safe Masks work Please protect yourself and others But if you can manage to safely see it in theaters ーperhaps by renting out a private screen with friends ーyou ll be reminded of what makes that experience so special I watched it in the second row of a fairly typical multiplex theater and it still floored me I can only imagine what it would be like on a full sized IMAX screen which can reach up to feet tall Dune is at its best when Villeneuve and cinematographer Greig Fraser let you soak in the vistas the regal yet alien costumes and the wealth of background details It s pure visual world building At one point a character s eyes briefly flash white when he s asked to compute the cost of an imperial envoy s trek through the stars It s never explained but you get it This style of slow burn sci fi isn t for everyone but if you enjoyed Arrival or Blade Runner Villeneuve s previous genre forays there s a good chance you re primed for this brand of storytelling Even before I saw anything on the screen though I felt Dune in my gut As I waited for my screening to begin an alien voice began speaking out of nowhere sounding like it came entirely from the theater s subwoofers It posed a question about the power of drums but really it was as if the movie was saying quot Sit up pay attention you re not on Earth anymore quot The film s inventive sound design doesn t stop there Everything you hear ーfrom the roar of spaceships as they take off the buzz of dragonfly like vehicles as they flap their wings or the sphincter clenching roar of the sandworms ーis meticulously crafted to make you believe it s all real Hans Zimmer s score doesn t tread too far from his Gladiator vibe but does a fine job of making everything sound epic And yes I was blasting it down the highway as I sped back home Don t take my praise for this movie as disrespect towards David Lynch s Dune That was a troubled production that s since attained cult status but it was hampered by meddling producers and a script that tried to cram in the entire novel Villenueve s approach is more confident and as you d expect is backed by far more capable visual effects technology Even though it runs for two hours and minutes I could have easily given up another three hours to watch the rest of the story Warner Bros and Legendary PicturesUnfortunately there s a chance we won t see that conclusion Warner Bros originally agreed to let Villeneuve tell the story in two parts this movie s title card says quot Dune Part quot but the follow up still hasn t been officially greenlit The director told Variety that his plan to shoot both parts at once was deniedーhe expects to hear more from the studio once we see how Dune performs in theaters and on HBO Max Plans for a prequel TV series Dune The Sisterhood are still in the works with Villeneuve attached to produce As epic as Dune is it s a shame that its scope couldn t fit in actors from the Middle East and North Africa MENA cultures that Herbert was clearly inspired by The film almost goes out of its way to diminish any Islamic influence from its story instead of Jihad there are references to a crusade That s particularly egregious when we see the locals of Arrakis the blue eyed sand dwellers known as the Fremen who are often portrayed as noble savages At least the film begins with the Fremen perspective Chani played by Zendaya wonders aloud who their next oppressors will be All of this is to say if you can make it to the theater to see Dune you should You can still capture some of its immensity by watching it up close Pull a chair right up to your TV or veg out with a laptop as close to your eyeballs as possible But Dune is a story that hinges on the power of dreams so it s almost fitting that it s best experienced when it overwhelms your reality 2021-10-22 17:30:51
