we ve come a long way and while the technology has advanced and cryptocurrency became mainstream Perhaps the most monumental and controversial period of this technology took place within the past years Even muppets joined in on the fun Granted not everyone remained unmoved after all the global developments and price changes Looking at all this in retrospect we arrive at the conclusion that from this point forward Blockchain can have real life applications Following that line of thought we ll now be focusing on how Blockchain is improving the workforce industry Goodbye Third PartiesThird parties have always been a large part of any hiring process whether we re talking about traditional office jobs or freelancing The latter one is ruled by giants like Upwork and Fiverr whereas traditional office jobs are mostly intermediated by human resource companies like Adecco First to understand why this is a problem In alone Adecco had revenue in excess of B While freelancing platforms are lower on the scale due to their relatively short history they still rack in digits revenue annually Adecco charges per hire and it s usually equal to salaries hire whereas services like Fiverr and Upwork charge a commission on every job completed through the platform and that fee is around Welfare SystemLet s dive a bit into this Most countries have developed a welfare system to better take care of the population on the lower side of the income spectrum Before we move on it should be noted that blockchain technology can greatly improve welfare systems in general through globally synchronized provable information ie tax forms the general situation of individuals etc Our main focus however is the job board These job boards have become integral and indispensable parts of Welfare systems all around the world The reason for that is simply but eloquently described in this Chinese Proverb give a man a fish and you feed him for a day teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime ーChinese Proverb The easiest solution to helping someone who has found himself in a difficult financial situation is helping that person find a job Let s analyze the process of how that usually works You need to go to one of the job board centers in your city prove that you re under welfare through a plethora of documents prove you don t have a job and then request a job In most cases you still need to fill in some additional forms about what your skills are and so on Then let s assume you find a job in the meantime Go back to the center announce this and prove it then renounce your job posting Quite complicated when you take into account that the end purpose of these systems is to help someone and not the opposite Let s try this with Blockchain You lose your job The welfare system is already aware of it now They import your data from the public ledger including your skills previous work experience peer review from those you worked with the median income and how soon you need a job Pair this with some AI and you could be presented with new job opportunities within the next hours This might sound science fiction but the technology for all this already exists we re just not using it or rather use it for the wrong reasons Interoperability between CountriesLet s go one step further on the previous topic Welfare There is a shortage of jobs everywhere in the world At the same time there is an ever increasing shift in the way we work ーthat is to say more and more jobs can be done remotely While previously remote jobs were reserved for highly technical or specific jobs nowadays most remote jobs are entry level Now that we ve established this let s look at the next point ーevery country in the entire world is trying to achieve a unemployment rate yet none has achieved it A Different ApproachLet s assume we have a global job board just like an Agora but completely decentralized We ll call it HYVE Now let s take the following scenario America has unemployed unskilled workers We will assume these people are fresh out of high school desperately need work but have no skills At the same time America has a severe shortage of developers In a different part of the world Berlin has too many developers and cannot find English speaking citizens who want to work in a call center Additionally both these countries have a welfare layer built on top of our global job board HYVE therefore they can easily interact with one another and try to find solutions for one another The solution is already quite simple The American workers can work remotely for the call centers since their English level is at the very least sufficient and the German developers can work remotely while earning potentially larger salaries than back home Both countries win both countries reduce unemployment Now imagine a world in which all the countries and jobs in the world are interconnected with one another so that whenever someone doesn t have a job a solution can exist Perhaps that solution isn t in the same city or the same country but the solution exists we just don t have the tools to locate it F CK ーYet Another Resume We know how much you hate having to fill in a new resume every goddamn time you apply for a job What s worse you also need to remake it every time you change websites That s one of the things blockchain is actively changing though Everything is immutable and gets stored on a public ledger so one CV can now get you any interview out there As blockchain progresses we finally get to the point where there is only one unified resume This doesn t stop only at resumes but rather at the entire work experience All the jobs experience and reviews you ve gotten over the years are on the blockchain In other words it s close to impossible trying to bullshit someone and the only way to advance in any type of organization is through hard work and skill On the other hand however there is no one who can question your authority or achievements in a particular field There is nothing for you to prove in an interview because everything has already been proven through your experience On that note we do believe that in the future job interviews will be centered only around interpersonal skills and how well you fit with the team Because the interview will never even take place if the skill level is inadequate saving time and money for both the candidate and the employer give a man a resume and he ll have a job for a day teach a man to use HYVE and he ll have a job for a lifetime ーBlockchain ProverbWant to learn more about one reasons to have a personal portfolio website from helping you have a gallery of your work projects online to improving your chances of getting a job etc The fact is not everyone needs to have one and I recently wrote an article explaining in detail what a portfolio is why you might want to have one and it s importance in the world today What We ll Build Contact Section Serving as the Nav amp amp Footer About SectionWork PortfolioIt might be important to note that this tutorial is beginner friendly you don t need to have a god mode knowledge of HTML or CSS We ll walk through the entire code together along with suggestions on how to improve them later because we ll be keeping things super simple and summarized File Structure To follow along with this tutorial you ll need a file structure such as this Warm UpLooking at the UI Design and having an overview of where we re going with code and how the finished website will look like we can begin to mark out some key points such as colours sections styles etc Because of this we ll start by creating some global styles following the DRY don t repeat yourself principle Also for this tutorial we ll be interchanging between Grid and Flexbox I promised to make this tutorial simple so we won t be writing coding anything complicated If you find something you don t understand in this article that s fine you can always Google or learn them later Don t let anything stop you you re already awesome I ve decided to paste the code snippets in PNG formats This is just me trying to compel encourage you to code it out by hand because it helps with understanding and well as retention If you don t want to go through the process of typing it out head over to the end of the page and visit the GitHub link you can download the entire project from there ‍ With that out of the way we re ready to start coding Index htmlYour file structure should look something like this Please ignore the index js and README md files We won t be needing them for this tutorial I m using VS code by the way you can use any code editor you want In your index html file create a basic HTML template You can generate this by typing followed by the TAB key See image for reference After you ve done that you should have something like this Few things to note from the image above I ve included a google font we ll use this as our font but feel free to use any font you want I ve linked the index css file so we can use it in our index html For everything else you can put anything you like e g the lt title gt or lt meta gt tagsNow run the application and make sure it works as expected I m using Live server a VS Code extension that provides real time updates of your changes You don t have to use it though To verify that our CSS file have been linked correctly In your CSS file paste body background color Now run the app you should see a dark background If that is not the case try to verify you don t have a typo when linking your file either way I m sure you ll figure it out Moving forward For the files assets icons images we ll be using in this tutorial Checkout the GitHub repo you can download them from there otherwise you can use Font Awesome Flat Icon or any icon library of your choice CSS Globals and Setup ️We ll create some global styles variables and some basic setups these are properties I know for sure we ll be using more than once in this tutorial and you don t have to know it all at first just create a global when you notice you re re writing the same thing more than once You might have to click on the image if it appears to be blurry stretched or unreadable We ll be coding sections for this portfolio and now that we have all the basic setup ready let s get coding Contact Section Also the Nav and Footer HTMLCSSVisual If you didn t miss anything out you should have this You can take some time to understand the HTML structure and how the styles apply Also as you move forward with the code you ll soon come to realize that we re mostly just reusing the CSS we ve written in globals earlier Section CSS Globals and Setup About SectionHTMLNow if you re wondering what lt script gt document write new Date getFullYear lt script gt does It s javaScript and it s here so we won t have to calculate the years of experience by updating the portfolio code manually So if or is the year you started coding Just replace in the code with yours Though the year you started coding might not exactly pass as experience but you get the point CSS Visuals If you don t see something similar to the visual image above make sure all your HTML Tags are closed correctly Do some error checks on your syntax I m sure you ll fix it Experience SectionHTMLFrom the snippet above the duplicateThisDiv class is purely for You already know what to do CSSVisuals LastlyThe FooterThis is just a replica of the Contact section so just copy paste it and use it as your footer Don t forget to replace the lt nav gt tag with a footer tag in this case Full Design ️ My Thoughts I ve seen people get better opportunities because they have an online portfolio including myself and you don t have to own the greatest portfolio on the planet If you already have solid years of experience you might not necessarily need one however having one has no disadvantage irrespective of your level in the tech world I understand that you
