Belonging at Google in Europe the Middle East and AfricaBuilding for everyone requires vision and constant revision Every product we create requires continually trying new things examining data and learning from both our successes and failures to do better every day Our work on Diversity Equity and Inclusion DEI is no different Google first published its Diversity Annual Report in and since then we ve built on what we ve learned to increasingly make Google a place that is truly for everyone Last year for the first time the data in the report was broken down across Google s business regions With this year s report we now have the opportunity to report on progress for the business region that encompasses Europe the Middle East and Africa which we call EMEA I ve led Google s DEI programs in EMEA since I m often asked what DEI looks like in such a diverse region How can one approach work from Paris to Lagos and from Milan to Tel Aviv It s not simple but we are committed to finding ways to make progress Each country has different rules governing what data we can collect and what policies are permissible Our DEI data isn t perfect but it s essential for us to measure our progress as it helps keep us honest about where we are at and where we want to be Representation of women in EMEAThe data shows that we have increased the overall representation of women in our workforce from to That might sound small but in an organization the size of Google in EMEA over employees and interns this represents a significant shift We continue to make progress in the hiring of women in EMEA with an overall increase of Specifically women made up of our tech hires of our non tech hires and of our Leadership hires This is an increase year on year of for non tech and for leadership hires with tech hires staying the same Our focus on increasing representation of women in leadership roles across EMEA is showing promising results We saw a significant gain of in the representation of women in leadership roles which now stands at It s good to see progress but there is more to do here We know efforts to develop talent from under represented groups need to start early We have amplified our efforts to support gender equity in a number of countries in Africa sponsoring and providing content for the Our Girls Our Future conference for young women interested in the tech industry Across Sub Saharan Africa we partnered with the Graca Machel Trust to provide digital skills training for more than women entrepreneurs We also grew Mind the Gap an initiative we started in Israel in that encourages women and girls to pursue STEM careers Mind the Gap transitioned to a virtual platform at the beginning of the pandemic In the program reached more than students in Israel and expanded to Romania and Ghana Racial equity in EMEALast year for the first time we were able to report race data for our business region in the Diversity Annual Report thanks to almost three quarters of Googlers in EMEA voluntarily providing this information We see White continue to account for the highest representation in EMEA versus last year Representation of Asian Googlers shows the largest increase from to followed by MENA from to Black from to Latinx from to and Indigenous no change at Where we need to make better progress is in the speed at which things are changing For example there has been an increase in representation of MENA leaders from to and an increase in representation of Black leaders from to across EMEA but we need to see more progress here And representation for all racial categories except Black and White are lower in leadership than in the overall population Growing leadership is one of the key planks of our racial equity plans in EMEA Here s how we re focusing our efforts In recruiting In we set an aspiration to double the number of Black directors by Additionally we aim to drive Black representation at all levels across our talent engagement outreach initiatives and inclusive hiring commitments Baseline data Where legally permissible we have started to collect application data to help understand the representation of our candidates Nurturing talent We relaunched Elevate a six month long EMEA specific program that offers one on one mentorship and coaching to Black employees To date nearly Googlers have participated in this program Educating majority groups We continue to engage Googlers through comprehensive anti racism and racial equity education such as trainings and our speaker series on racial justice We also have a thriving community of allyship groups across EMEA It s not just about supporting racial equity in our workforce ーit s also important to support the wider community Black founders in EMEA received million in follow on funding after they participated in our Black Founders Fund with of participants reporting a positive impact on their startup s ability to fundraise We announced a second fund earlier this year Disability in EMEAOur recruiting teams and local HR teams work closely with our Disability Alliance group to progress our commitments to communities with disabilities ensuring that our hiring process is accessible and our culture and managers are prepared to support and lead Googlers with disabilities Our talent engagement team in EMEA hosted its first ever Disability Conference DisCo for short for nearly students new graduates and industry professionals with disabilities The conference created a space for people with disabilities and allies to connect and engage with each other and Google We re also fostering new connections with disability communities around the globe Last year our London Dublin Munich Zurich Wroclaw and Nairobi offices celebrated PurpleLightUp a global campaign that celebrates every employee with a disability around the world Leaders from each office also held conversations with our employee resource group ERG for Googlers with disabilities LGBTQ representation in EMEAWe have incredibly active Pride and Trans employee resource groups at Google These groups play a critical role in promoting belonging and inclusion within the LGBTQ community from creating thoughtful programming for Trans Awareness week to leading Pride events activations across countries from Poland to South Africa Google is also a founding member of We Are Open an alliance of businesses and other organizations in Hungary that promotes diversity and inclusion at the workplace focusing on LGBTQ inclusion In line with Google s vision to be helpful for all including our LGBTQ communities and its allies we were excited to partner with Open for Business in creating a report on LGBTQ inclusion in Central and Eastern Europe that was released last year In addition to aid small business recovery during the pandemic we launched a global campaign to help support and celebrate LGBTQ friendly spaces from a LGBTQ bookstore in Sweden to Rainbow Square in Copenhagen Google also officially supported the Ja Für Alle campaign in the referendum for Equal Marriage rights in Switzerland In conclusionIt s up to every one of us to contribute to building a more inclusive equitable and representative workplace region and world where everyone feels they belong We have a responsibility to relentlessly represent and support the rich diversity of talent in our region and to make Google a place where everyone can thrive This work is not a one off effort It requires thoughtful and committed ongoing systemic action Only by committing to doing this work together can we make meaningful and long lasting change If you d like to find out more please take a look at this year s Diversity Annual Report |

Apps for Small Things that MatterSome apps that help me stay sane and healthy on weeks when there is a lot going on and it is easy to get stuck on VSCode Slack or Twitter for h straight Routinery Lets you configure a routine with steps and it has a timer per step so you don t get stuck on one thing or get distracted This helps me remember to drink tea meditate and sort out my schedule for the day before turning to any inbox Routinery also reminds me to get off work at pm move my body eat and spend time with humans I ignore it more often than I want to admit very tempting to just keep going on an interesting problem or the pile of small tasks but it feels good when I don t DayStamp it is the least judgmental habits app that I know I added about things I d love to do on a regular basis Some I do daily some weekly some rarely I use it to check if things got out of balance didn t work out in a week didn t code or publish anything in a week didn t read anything meaningful in a month Wakeout min workouts that can be done at the desk or couch I have no excuse not to do them minute is nothing and it helps me move a bit few times a day It did wonder to my back shoulder which used to get stiff after long days Some of the workouts in the app are very silly but I love the office yoga one Sweepy Prioritizes cleaning tasks and tracks how bad my home got I can see when the sink is full but I don t actually see if the floor or bathroom mirror got dirty I think this is a common problem As a result sometimes my house gets to the point where my friends visit and become seriously concerned how can you live like this it is like a pigsty This app helps me see that I didn t clean the floor in a while and it is certainly dirty Whatsapp Facetime SMS email My family and close friends are the most important thing in my life and definitely the most important contributor to my happiness Grateful for the apps and protocols that help us stay in touch despite time and distance challenges Apps that I don t use Pomodoro apps I like the minute or minute work spans followed by a quick break But I didn t find an app that I like so I just use my alarm clock Meditation apps You can t convince me to pay money for an app that tells me to close my eyes and breath I use a timer for this one too |

Introducing AutoAnimate — add motion to your apps with a single line of code. |
https://dev.to/justinschroeder/introducing-autoanimate-add-motion-to-your-apps-with-a-single-line-of-code-34bp
|
Introducing AutoAnimate ーadd motion to your apps with a single line of code When it comes to building user interfaces a little motion goes a long way Whether you are adding a task to your todo list deleting a contact or sorting a playlist interfaces with subtle motion unquestionably provide a superior user experience If we know some motion is better ーwhy do we so seldom add it The answer is as simple ー it just takes too much time Time is money after all and optimizing for minor UX details often falls outside the budget of all but the biggest brands To be fair adding UI animations can be painful ーespecially for new removed and moved DOM elements For example when animating the addition of a new item to a list an experienced dev might do the following Measure the parent element and set its max height explicitly and add a class with css transitions for max height Add a class to the new list item before its added to the DOM that sets its initial opacity and transform state perhaps a slight scale down Inject the element and set a very short timeout that removes the initial class Calculate the height of the element being added and increase the parent s max height by that amount Wait for the height to be fully transition and remove the explicit max height properties This is not fun Enter AutoAnimate AutoAnimate is a lightweight Kb zero config drop in animation library that automatically applies transition animations to elements being added removed or moved in the DOM It literally takes one line of code to implement and it works with React Vue and any other JavaScript framework you want AutoAnimate s goal is to substantially improve an application s user experience without impacting the developer s implementation time or performance budget Let s take a look at two identical lists written in React ーone with AutoAnimate and one without The details of the list are just standard React code but lets take a look at how animations were added to the second list import React from react import FrameworkList from FrameworkList import useAutoAnimate from formkit auto animate react export default function App const animationParent useAutoAnimate return lt section className comparison gt lt FrameworkList gt lt FrameworkList ref animationParent gt lt section gt That s it Yep And it might even be easier if you use Vue lt script setup gt import FrameworkList from FrameworkList vue lt script gt lt template gt lt section class comparison gt lt FrameworkList gt lt FrameworkList v auto animate gt lt section gt lt template gt Of course AutoAnimate works great with plain ol native JavaScript too All you need to do is pass the parent DOM element into the autoAnimate function const el document getElementById my el autoAnimate el AutoAnimate is made by myself Justin Schroeder and the team from FormKit and as of today the beta is publicly available If you find AutoAnimate is helping you out consider supporting us You can Sponsor the FormKit organization Star the AutoAnimate repositoryFollow FormKit and myself on Twitter |

Media queries |
https://dev.to/goodboyks/media-queries-290j
|
Media queriesAdapt your designs to different screen sizes using CSS media queries Designers can adjust their designs to accommodate users The clearest example of this is the form factor of a user s device its width the device aspect ratio and so on Using media queries designers can respond to these different form factors Media queries are initiated with the media keyword a CSS at rule and can be used for a variety of use cases Target different types of outputWebsites are often displayed on screens but CSS can also be used to style websites for other outputs too You might want your web pages to look one way on a screen but different when printed out Querying media types makes this possible In this example the background color is set to grey But if the page is printed the background color should be transparent This saves the user s printer ink body color black background color grey media print body background color transparent You can use the media at rule in your stylesheet like that or you can make a separate stylesheet and use the mediaattribute on a linkelement lt link rel stylesheet href global css gt lt link rel stylesheet href print css media print gt If you don t specify any media type for your CSS it will automatically have a media type value of all These two blocks of CSS are equivalent body color black background color white media all body color black background color white These two lines of HTML are also equivalent lt link rel stylesheet href global css gt lt link rel stylesheet href global css media all gt Query conditionsYou can add conditions to media types These are called media queries The CSS is applied only if the media type matches and the condition is also true These conditions are called media features This is the syntax for media queries media type and feature You can use media queries on a link element if your styles are in a separate stylesheet lt link rel stylesheet href specific css media type and feature gt Let s say you want to apply different styles depending on whether the browser window is in landscape mode the viewport width is greater than its height or portrait mode the viewport height is greater than its width There s a media feature called orientation you can use to test that media all and orientation landscape Styles for landscape mode media all and orientation portrait Styles for portrait mode Or if you prefer to have separate stylesheets lt link rel stylesheet href landscape css media all and orientation landscape gt lt link rel stylesheet href portrait css media all and orientation portrait gt In this case the media type is all Because that s the default value you can leave it out if you want media orientation landscape Styles for landscape mode media orientation portrait Styles for portrait mode Or using separate stylesheets lt link rel stylesheet href landscape css media orientation landscape gt lt link rel stylesheet href portrait css media orientation portrait gt |

The current gen version of x The Witcher x is now slated to arrive in late The long awaited PlayStation and Xbox Series X S version of The Witcher Wild Hunt once again has a release window The new edition which is also coming to PC is expected to arrive in the last three months of the year according to CD Projekt Red It will be a free upgrade for those who own the respective last gen version on PC PS or Xbox One Let s make this th anniversary even better shall we We re delighted to share that the Next Gen version of The Witcher Wild Hunt is planned to release in Q See you on the Path witchers pic twitter com wQbxMPzhーThe Witcher witchergame May The news comes a month after CD Projekt Red delayed the current gen version of the game indefinitely Its in house team took over development of The Witcher Wild Hunt ーComplete Edition from Saber Interactive which handled the Nintendo Switch port of the base game around that time Now presumably after assessing how much work needs to be done CDPR is confident it can get the upgraded version out this year The studio announced the PS and Xbox Series X S edition in September and it initially planned to release it the following year However CDPR pushed back the launch window to the second quarter of before the most recent delay Developers should always get as much time as possible to polish a game and squish as many bugs as they can anyway but after the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk CD Projekt Red doesn t have much room for error It released the very good current gen edition of Cyberpunk in February Here s hoping the upgrade for The Witcher is worth the wait too |
