海外TECH DEV Community A Simple Guide to Gestalt Principles In UI/UX Design https://dev.to/iayeshasahar/a-simple-guide-to-gestalt-principles-in-uiux-design-i7f A Simple Guide to Gestalt Principles In UI UX Design Table of ContentsIntroduction Similarity Proximity Common Region Continuity SymmetryConclusion Introduction Applying Gestalt Principles will take your designs to a whole new level You don t know what they are Don t worry let s find outActually our brain makes sense of everything around us by building logic patterns and structure Gestalt Principles are used to describe how humans group similar elements and recognize patterns They also tell us about how we simplify complex images when we perceive objects So basically they guide us about how humans view the designs around them in everyday life We can use Gestalt Principles in our designs to organize content in order to make it visually pleasing and easily understandable Here are the gestalt principles we are gonna discuss today Similarity Proximity Common Region Continuity Common Region Similarity This principle states that elements that look alike whether in shape size or color are considered to have the same function So in order to help users navigate your designs quickly or to keep the user flow efficient keep “like with like for achieving consistency For example if you re including avatars or images of users in your designs make sure that the placeholders for those avatars are the same shape and size in the wireframes you created Such a similarity shows that the elements have the same function In this case all link to profiles of users Proximity It means that elements that are close together appear to be more related than things that are spaced farther apart Here again in order to help users navigate your designs quickly or to keep the user flow efficient keep “like with like for achieving consistency It has a stronger impact than the Principle of Similarity Let s take a look at the design for a blog page for better understanding By convention you would only show a bit of article text and then add a read more button right below the text Users assume that they will see the whole article after they press the read more button Why Because the read more button is just below the article they wanna read This is the Gestalt Principle of Proximity On the other hand if you had left a lot of space between the article text and the read more button users would have been confused and might not understand the connection between the two elements Due to frustration or a delay of even seconds they might leave your product for anything else that would give them something easy to understand Common Region It means that elements located within the same closed area are perceived to be grouped together For example have you ever noticed that navigation bars at the top or bottom of a mobile phone screen are usually in a different color or grouped with a border This is a real world example of the Gestalt Principle of the common region A border and a block of color in a navigation bar can help you anchor the icons for the main pages of your product instead of having the icons float on the screen It helps users recognize that the icons in the navigation bar are more important than others and are perceived to be grouped together Continuity It shows that individual elements that are aligned together will appear more related than the elements that are randomly placed Simply speaking the small hints in our design can guide users and the human brain will create a path along with aligned elements You can use it to guide your users to important elements Whereas once the continuity is disrupted it indicates to the users that they have reached a new section of the interface This is also providing ease for your users since they won t have to think about where to go next because you guide them via your design Symmetry This principle shows that humans are more comfortable with symmetric elements That s because symmetry usually gives the impression of the balance while asymmetry triggers a sense of unbalance It is used to create a sense of ease or balance for users They won t feel like something is out of place with the design app logo website etc they are interacting with Using just symmetry in your designs is not recommended too since that would make the design pretty boring and would be difficult to maintain The best approach would be to use symmetry and asymmetry in a balance By playing with the ratio of symmetry and asymmetry you can direct your user s focus on a certain important element A good example of a symmetrical design is the logo of Audi Conclusion Learning about how to incorporate gestalt principles into your designs can greatly improve the user experience Moreover once we gain an understanding of how the human brain works we can exploit a person s natural tendencies to create a better interaction that will make any user feel comfortable on a website even on their first visit So take some time out of your busy lives and learn about these principles in detail Trust me it ll be worth it Let s connect Twitter Github 2022-06-08 16:19:29

海外TECH DEV Community Patterns for Building JavaScript Websites in 2022 https://dev.to/this-is-learning/patterns-for-building-javascript-websites-in-2022-5a93 Patterns for Building JavaScript Websites in Deciding on the approaches and tools to use to build on web these days can be a challenging prospect There are many different options available and they all claim they do it the best and often in seemingly contradicting ways And strangely enough they aren t wrong There are many different types of experiences available on the web from the simple business listing page to running AutoCAD in the browser But even knowing that the web is a wide and diverse place there is a desire to not have as many solutions as there are sites And while it may be unrealistic to have a one size fits all maybe there is a way we can rein in some of the confusion By categorizing the techniques being used we have a way of talking about them and can make meaningful comparisons The framework that has worked for me has been to look at this with questions in mind Where do you navigate When do you render How do you hydrate There is no single right answer Different sites have different needs So how do we make this more concrete We could look at UI frameworks but they are a moving target constantly updating and improving By the time you read this article it will be out of date Instead maybe it is best to talk about this by archetype taking a page from Jason Miller s Application Holotypes PortfolioContentStorefrontSocial NetworkImmersiveHolotypePersonal you are not familiar with there is a glossary at the end All these frameworks work perfectly well in multiple scenarios but just picked a couple of the options that fit This is just a small sampling It is easy to see there are many options Honestly our classification can only go so far to indicate the characteristics of different tools you are choosing But if nothing else perhaps this can serve as a starting point for conversation based on real needs to find the type of solutions right for your project Routing The Backbone of the WebThe web was built on the the idea of being able to describe a location as a path The URL is the driving force behind how all the web works In recent years we ve gotten more liberal with how we handle it but how we do is the most fundamental aspect of how our web sites and applications behave Whole architectures and paradigms arise over how this routing is handle as it is the foundation upon what all else is built So this is why this is where we start How Routing is usually our first distinction As old as Web Site vs Web App But the nuance is that all sites are first served from a server A server rendered SPA becomes an MPA simply by removing the lt script gt tag As we look at the newer approaches in the center we are seeing this distinction be harder and harder to make The key thing to note is these hybrids all are about leveraging the server more while maintaining client side navigation without reloads Where they differ most is their ability to maintain client state below the change If there is any take away about routing it is that every time we ve made a significant advance here the whole paradigm of how we build apps changes From initial server routing to client routing saw the dawn of SPAs Push state and History APIs enabled the isomorphic SSR SPAs we see today And we are on the precipice of another one of these shifts today Resources Introducing TurboLinks for Rails Fabian Becker Have Single Page Apps Ruined the Web Rich server tyMarko React SolidNext Nuxt SvelteKitApp Shell JamstackCreate React AppA lot of the rendering story is about data availability when we fetch has a huge effect on when we render It isn t uncommon to split the work rendering static parts on the server and rendering the rest in the browser after fetching data there Also important since all web sites begin on the server any server rendered site can also be cached if sufficiently static and gain those advantages At some point you are taking the hit and so much of this comes down to how tolerable latency at different points There are a lot terms for different on demand and stale while revalidating cache strategies like Incremental Static Re generation ISR DPR as these features have mostly been platform specific to this point Expect to see a lot more interesting caching strategies appear as we explore rendering at the Edge We have compute so near to the end user but it doesn t necessarily change the data latency story Streaming mitigates part of the problem by putting content in front of the user as soon as possible but expect more aggressive caching strategies as we continue to try to get the best of both worlds
