海外TECH DEV Community Do you really need fancy productivity apps? https://dev.to/pavel_polivka/do-you-really-need-fancy-productivity-apps-3o7f Do you really need fancy productivity apps If you look at Medium Twitter or any other platform where many developers hang out you will see an obsession with productivity tools apps etc Everybody is praising the latest shiny apps that will make you a productivity god Did we ever stop and asked do we really need all of these apps I have a busy work schedule and trying to manage that and still have some quality time with my family So I naturally tried to be as much productive as I can I downloaded almost all the apps that are in the talks Tried them in the belief that they will help me with all my issues with time management not enough time and joggling all the tasks I need to complete Well I am here to report that it does not work You actually lose a lot of time trying to use the tools Take Obsidian for example In theory it s a very cool idea Have all the notes in one place interconnected with links between each other Your second digital brain Did somebody actually manage to keep a decent size library of all their notes with the links in all the places When I am writing down a note I actually need to know what are my other existing notes to create a link to them That seems stupid Like really really stupid The chart showing the relationship between the notes looks impressive in the demos and videos but is it useful What do you actually gain with it Maybe just maybe it s all just a bunch of fluff that will get you nothing For me the best solution for note taking is basically a bunch of text files and an easy solution in full text search in those Wau that sounds great and useful What app does that That is the beauty of this You do not really need an app for this It s part of your OS You just put a bunch of text files in a folder and use Windows search or Apple Spotlight Sure it s low tech Sure it does not really work on phones Do you really need all your work notes on the go What is all the obsession with having everything synced and on the go Do you really need your notes on how to restart a production server when you are grocery shopping Do you need them on your phone at all For productivity s sake you should not really look at your phone when you work anyway For the notes you need to have on the go you can use your phone notes app What kind of notes do you need on the go Maybe a list for your shopping some measurements etc The notes app on your phone is more than capable of doing that Another productivity giant is Notion I never figured out what people really see on it It s a bunch of templates for markdown files and kanban boards Plus it s really sluggish and slow to use Not to mention finicky It s the most over engineered solution for your notes and todos What is the real need for kanban outside of some specific work use cases and even there it s more or less questionable Do you really need to know that your window cleaning is not in progress What is wrong with just a normal to do list If you have that many to dos that you need to have them organized in some other way than just a plain list you have a problem with delivering or overcommitting not with the organization of your tasks I tried a lot of different to do list apps Some better some worse I always came back to just writing my todos down on paper It forces you to keep the list small and manageable Plus you know it feels fancy In the end you use what you are comfortable with I will stick with my pile of text files simple notes app and paper 2022-06-23 19:40:09
海外TECH DEV Community How I created a billion dollar software system in a couple of hours with Hyperlambda https://dev.to/polterguy/how-i-created-a-billion-dollar-software-system-in-a-couple-of-hours-with-hyperlambda-3oim How I created a billion dollar software system in a couple of hours with HyperlambdaIn our last article we looked at how to manually create a Hyperlambda endpoint In this article we ll take a break from creating code ourselves and rather look at an example use case being a support ticket system Watch the following video for a walk through of the system in general There are some pretty bold statements in the above video and to understand them it s more important to understand what you cannot find in the system There is no Domain Driven Design in the systemThere is no complex orchestration of Design PatternsThere are no message queues implementations and no enterprise service message bus brokers in the systemThere is no OOP in the systemSOLID design principles cannot be found anywhere in the systemThere is no Micro Service Saga libraries in the systemThere are no classes in the system and zero interfaces in itWe didn t need Kafka Solace or NServiceBus so we did what any sane human being does at such a point which is to simply drop itThe system doesn t have MongoDB CouchBase Scylla Kassandra Dynamo or CosmosThere is no server less stuff in the system neither Azure Functions nor Lambda FunctionsWe didn t need event driven design long lasting micro service transaction implementations or put in your favourite rubbish software development principe here So we simply dropped itEtc etc etc In fact from a functional point of view all Hyperlambda files except one have a one to one relationship towards a web function where each Hyperlambda file can be invoked over an HTTP connection which results in mutating the state of the system somehow internally resulting in the capacity to store support tickets and associated data referencing registered users in the backend it runs on Period I implemented of the system s code in seconds FunctionalityThe way the system works is by allowing registered users to create support tickets for then to enter into a dialog with a support technician working for Aista until the user is satisfied with the support and chooses to close the support ticket himself or herself Each support ticket has some traits most of which are one to many references towards other helper tables in the system such as follows DepartmentPriorityStatusIn addition each support ticket have a title and a description and a created date and a support technician can increase or decrease the priority of a ticket according to his or her reasoning allowing a ticket to enter a priority state The system sends emails to the registered user functioning as his or her receipt as somebody answers the ticket and in later versions we might implement the ability to associate files with a ticket Implementation detailsIt took me all in all roughly hours of coding to implement it in its entirety including adding it as an open source plugin to our internal plugins section allowing you to install it in your own cloudlet as you see fit Notice You ll need to configure your SMTP settings to make the system work in your own cloudlet ConclusionI have seen software projects such as this being given half a dozen of software developers requiring months to implement and some of these projects never being able to enter production at all in fact The reasons for this is because if you give the average software developer something that s intrinsically super simple to understand to the point where it can be understood by a kindergarten child the default intuition of the software developer is to overcomplicate it adding layers upon layers with unnecessary complexity until the architecture and design of the system is so difficult to comprehend it s impossible to sustain it as a development project anymore Hyperlambda doesn t allow for the above to happen Because in Hyperlambda it s not even possible in theory to create a complex class hierarchy In Hyperlambda it s not even possible in theory to violate Liskov Substitution Principle simply because there are no classes In Hyperlambda it s almost impossible to violate single responsibility simply since one function equals one HTTP endpoint Etc etc etc Yet again I built the thing in hours If you can reproduce what I did in your favourite OOP language of choice I will send you EUROs worth of BTC if you send me your BitCoin wallet address Got Magic If you want to create something similar you can register for a Magic cloudlet here and start playing around with Hyperlambda However I encourage you to read the articles in this series in sequential order since that will make things easier for you If you start out with the first article you ll be back here in probably an hour I assume Notice even though I spent hours creating the system s code I only spent seconds creating of its code and we intend to use this system as is maybe with some additional hours of coding in total as our primary ticket system at Aista ExplanationThere are only possible explanations to what you ve just read here I m lying and I really spent months implementing it I am special to the point where I as a person are orders of magnitudes more productive than the average software developer and Microsoft Amazon and Google should be fighting over me and pay me per hour to work for them There is something special about Hyperlambda that allows for these kind of systems to be built much faster than any other programming language allows for I ll leave it up to you to figure out which of the above explanations are the actual truth However you can follow my GitHub commits and probably replace what I did for yourself if you create your own cloudlet 2022-06-23 19:27:44
