海外TECH	Engadget	Researchers made a sonar-equipped earphone that can capture facial expressions	https://www.engadget.com/cornell-university-sonar-earphone-facial-expressions-earable-eario-173849113.html?src=rss	Researchers made a sonar equipped earphone that can capture facial expressionsResearchers at Cornell University have developed an earphone that uses sonar to detect the wearer s facial expression to create an avatar of their face The so called quot earable quot system is called EarIO It works by bouncing sound off the wearer s cheeks ーthe audio is emitted from speakers on each side of the earphone A microphone captures the echoes which change as the face moves and the wearer speaks The system then uses a deep learning algorithm to turn the echoes into a replica of the person s expression EarIO can transmit the facial movements to a mobile device in real time and the avatar can be used in video calls Camera based devices that track face movements are “large heavy and energy hungry which is a big issue for wearables said Cheng Zhang principal investigator of the Smart Computer Interfaces for Future Interactions Lab who co authored a paper on EarIO “Also importantly they capture a lot of private information A sonar based approach can bolster privacy affordability comfort and battery life he said In initial testing the team found the device works while wearers are sitting and walking and factors like background chatter wind and ambient road noise don t impact the acoustic signaling However the high sensitivity of the sensing method can cause some issues “It s good because it s able to track very subtle movements but it s also bad because when something changes in the environment or when your head moves slightly we also capture that quot said co author Ruidong Zhang an information science doctoral student The researchers hope to mitigate such disruptions in future models EarIO has some limitations as things stand The device runs for around three hours on a single charge despite being far more energy efficient than a camera based system the team previously used The researchers hope to improve the battery life in the future They also aim to make EarIO a plug and play device but it currently needs minutes of facial data training before the first use	2022-07-19 17:38:49
海外TECH	Engadget	Security flaws in a popular GPS module could allow hackers to track vehicles	https://www.engadget.com/micodus-mv720-vulnerabilities-disclosed-171844174.html?src=rss	Security flaws in a popular GPS module could allow hackers to track vehiclesMillions of vehicles worldwide could be susceptible to remote tracking and sabotage due to security flaws in a popular GPS module sold on Amazon and other online marketplaces On Tuesday cybersecurity firm BitSight disclosed it found six “severe vulnerabilities in the MV a hardwired GPS tracker produced by Chinese electronics manufacturer Micodus According to BitSight the vulnerabilities are “not difficult to exploit and may not be limited to one device Micodus did not respond to communication attempts by BitSight and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency CISA meaning the company has made no effort to fix the vulnerabilities and there are no known workarounds Two of the six flaws are “critical in nature The most pressing involves a hardcoded password that a bad actor could use to send SMS commands to the MV Someone could use that capability to track the real time location of a vehicle and remotely cut off its fuel supply The number of MV trackers out in the wild is hard to say According to BitSight approximately million Micodus devices are in use across countries Notably the firm found Ukraine had the most Micodus trackers of any European country It also found evidence of use among at least five Fortune companies a US state government and a military in South America A BitSight spokesperson told TechCrunch there are likely “thousands of Micodus devices in use across the United States CISA says affected vehicle owners should remove the tracker from their cars as soon as possible	2022-07-19 17:18:44
