topics ranging from personal responsibility and career development to architectural techniques for keeping your code flexible and easy to adapt and reuse Read this book and you ll learn how to Fight software rot Avoid the trap of duplicating knowledge Write flexible dynamic and adaptable code Avoid programming by coincidence Bullet proof your code with contracts assertions and exceptions Capture real requirements Test ruthlessly and effectively Delight your users Build teams of pragmatic programmers and Make your developments more precise with automation Written as a series of self contained sections and filled with entertaining anecdotes thoughtful examples and interesting analogies The Pragmatic Programmer illustrates the best practices and major pitfalls of many different aspects of software development Whether you re a new coder an experienced program Design Patterns Elements of Reusable Object Oriented SoftwareA good programmer can outproduce five ten and sometimes more run of the mill programmers The secret to success for any software company then is to hire the good programmers But how to do that In Joel on Hiring Joel Spolsky draws from his experience both at Microsoft and running his own successful software company based in New York City He writes humorously but seriously about his methods for sorting resumes for finding great candidates and for interviewing in person and by phone Joel s methods are not complex but they do get to the heart of the matter how to recognize a great developer when you see one Smart and Gets Things Done Joel Spolsky s Concise Guide to Finding the Best Technical TalentThe authors begin by describing what patterns are and how they can help you design object oriented software They then go on to systematically name explain evaluate and catalog recurring designs in object oriented systems With Design Patterns as your guide you will learn how these important patterns fit into the software development process and how you can leverage them to solve your own design problems most efficiently Each pattern describes the circumstances in which it is applicable when it can be applied in view of other design constraints and the consequences and trade offs of using the pattern within a larger design All patterns are compiled from real systems and are based on real world examples Each pattern also includes code that demonstrates how it may be implemented in object oriented programming languages like C or Smalltalk Agile Software Development Principles Patterns and PracticesWritten by a software developer for software developers this book is a unique collection of the latest software development methods The author includes OOD UML Design Patterns Agile and XP methods with a detailed description of a complete software design for reusable programs in C and Java Using a practical problem solving approach it shows how to develop an object oriented applicationーfrom the early stages of analysis through the low level design and into the implementation Walks readers through the designer s thoughts ーshowing the errors blind alleys and creative insights that occur throughout the software design process The book covers Statics and Dynamics Principles of Class Design Complexity Management Principles of Package Design Analysis and Design Patterns and Paradigm Crossings Explains the principles of OOD one by one and then demonstrates them with numerous examples completely worked through designs and case studies Covers traps pitfalls and work arounds in the application of C and OOD and then shows how Agile methods can be used Discusses the methods for designing and developing big software in detail Features a three chapter in depth single case study of a building security system For Software Engineers Programmers and Analysts who want to understand how to design object oriented software with state of the art methods Extreme Programming ExplainedSoftware development projects can be fun productive and even daring Yet they can consistently deliver value to a business and remain under control Extreme Programming XP was conceived and developed to address the specific needs of software development conducted by small teams in the face of vague and changing requirements This new lightweight methodology challenges many conventional tenets including the long held assumption that the cost of changing a piece of software necessarily rises dramatically over the course of time XP recognizes that projects have to work to achieve this reduction in cost and exploit the savings once they have been earned Test Driven Development By ExampleQuite simply test driven development is meant to eliminate fear in application development While some fear is healthy often viewed as a conscience that tells programmers to be careful the author believes that byproducts of fear include tentative grumpy and uncommunicative programmers who are unable to absorb constructive criticism When programming teams buy into TDD they immediately see positive results They eliminate the fear involved in their jobs and are better equipped to tackle the difficult challenges that face them TDD eliminates tentative traits it teaches programmers to communicate and it encourages team members to seek out criticism However even the author admits that grumpiness must be worked out individually In short the premise behind TDD is that code should be continually tested and refactored Kent Beck teaches programmers by example so they can painlessly and dramatically increase the quality of their work Mythical Man MonthFew books on software project management have been as influential and timeless as The Mythical Man Month With a blend of software engineering facts and thought provoking opinions Fred Brooks offers insight for anyone managing complex projects These essays draw from his experience as project manager for the IBM System computer family and then for OS its massive software system Now years after the initial publication of his book Brooks has revisited his original ideas and added new thoughts and advice both for readers already familiar with his work and for readers discovering it for the first time The added chapters contain a crisp condensation of all the propositions asserted in the original book including Brooks central argument in The Mythical Man Month that large programming projects suffer management problems different from small ones due to the division of labor that the conceptual integrity of the product is therefore critical and that it is difficult but possible to achieve this unity Brooks view of these propositions a generation later a reprint of his classic paper No Silver Bullet and today s thoughts on the assertion There will be no silver bullet within ten years Peopleware Productive Projects and TeamsFew books in computing have had as profound an influence on software management as Peopleware The unique insight of this longtime best seller is that the major issues of software development are human not technical They re not easy issues but solve them and you ll maximize your chances of success Death MarchHistorically all software projects have involved a certain degree of risk and pressure but many of the projects in today s chaotic business environment involve such intense pressure that they are referred to colloquially as death march projects i e projects whose schedules are so compressed and or whose budgets or resource people assignments are so constrained that the only obvious way to succeed is for the entire team to work hours a day days a week with no vacations until the project is finished While the corporate goal of such projects is to overcome impossible odds and achieve miracles the personal goal of the project manager and team members often shrinks down to mere survival keeping one s job maintaining some semblance of a relationship with one s spouse and children and avoiding a heart attack or ulcer This new and thoroughly updated edition of Ed Yourdon s book takes into account many of the changes that have taken place in the more than six years since the publication of the first edition The Five Dysfunctions of a TeamThe New York Times best selling team leadership handbook for modern executives managers and organizations In The Five Dysfunctions of a Team author Patrick Lencioni once again offers a leadership fable that is as enthralling and instructive as his first two best selling books The Five Temptations of a CEO and The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive This time he turns his keen intellect and storytelling power to the fascinating complex world of teams Kathryn Petersen Decision Tech s CEO faces the ultimate leadership crisis uniting a team in such disarray that it threatens to bring down the entire company Will she succeed Will she be fired Will the company fail Lencioni s utterly gripping tale serves as a timeless reminder that leadership requires as much courage as it does insight Throughout the story Lencioni reveals the five dysfunctions which go to the very heart of why teams even the best ones often struggle He outlines a powerful model and actionable steps that can be used to overcome these common hurdles and build a cohesive effective team Just as with his other books Lencioni has written a compelling fable with a powerful yet deceptively simple message for all those who strive to be exceptional team leaders The First Time ManagerThe trusted management classic and go to guide for anyone facing new in your virtual machine with the Run commandScripts can be embedded in properties or referenced to pre released library scripts The original command set was action oriented The updated command set currently in public preview is management oriented and allows you to run multiple scripts with fewer restrictions This article explains the difference between the two sets of run commands and helps you decide which is the right one to use in your scenario When to use an action or managed commandsThe initial set of commands is action oriented You should consider using this set of commands in situations where it needs to be run A small script to get stuff from a virtual machine A script to configure a virtual machine A single script for diagnostics Action Commands Run scripts in your Linux virtual machine using the Run Commands actionThe Run Command feature uses a virtual machine agent to run shell scripts in an Azure Linux virtual machine You can use these scripts for general machine or application management They can help you quickly diagnose and resolve virtual machine access and network problems and restore virtual machines to a good state AdvantagesYou can access your virtual machine in a number of ways Run Command can run scripts on your virtual machine remotely using VM Agent You use the Run command over the Azure portal REST API or Azure CLI for Linux virtual machines This feature is useful in all situations where you want to run a script in a virtual machine This is one of the only ways to troubleshoot and fix virtual machines whose RDP or SSH ports are not open 海外TECH DEV Community Developing 1st game ever: 9 lessons learned (race game, Unity) https://dev.to/keno_sej/developing-1st-game-ever-9-lessons-learned-race-game-unity-1806 Developing st game ever lessons learned race game Unity First let me show you a trailer of the game Don t worry it s only minutes long Want to play Here is the download link in game hold T to turn on a car Contents IntroductionTechnologies usedComing from the web developer worldA word about game engines and UnityChallenges mostly in math A few words about the deadlineWhat went goodRecognized mistakes made learned lessonsLooking at the game a few months afterA word about the beautiful tool GitFinal word DisclaimerIt isn t so much of a technical blog although the whole source code of a game you can find here The blog should teach you the lessons a programmer from outside the game development world learned developing his first game ever Beware it s licensed IntroductionIt s a D race game with advanced manual shifting The game was done in less than a month by me and my colleague and this is my but also his first game ever made The game was made for the competition contest A lot of new has been learned and I think that this blog should give you a few lessons which I learned along making this game Technologies usedThe game engine is Unity Scripting is done using C For the versioning system I used Git and Github of course Coming from the web developer worldI ve been working mainly on full stack projects on the web so this was a new challenge for me Coming into the gaming world has been a beautiful experience in which I learned a lot It is fascinating to me how the whole system functions in games and how much knowledge is required to bring entertainment to the gamers A lot of the same problems arise in the both web and gaming world but I noticed that it is a lot easier to hit hardware boundaries accidentally in game development A whole new world has been open to me upon learning the cycles in which Unity operates Although I don t enjoy gaming that much anymore I would like to say that this was enlightenment and that I m impressed A word about game engines and UnityThe most interesting to me was the execution order that is run by Unity Upon learning that I had and still have a lot of questions where to put my piece of code so it doesn t bug the whole game down I have a lot of questions about shaders meshes and all that magic stuff Although the game can obviously be made without knowing a lot of the answers at least in depth that I respect as the good answer I don t feel the satisfaction of knowing all the inner details how it functions under the hood I know that a big part of game engines is based on linear algebra and although I know the operations I didn t make my own engine and I don t think there s a better way to understand a game engine better than to make your own Making the game engine isn t my priority now but maybe someday I will try to make my own for fun The question could be referenced for a lot of things you know how to write code but don t know the assembly it resembles why don t you learn that also The answer to that maybe lies in the curiosity of the programmer that is reading this which depth satisfies you Anyway learning the execution order is the crucial thing when working with game engines and before you realize that upon not being able to optimize a game to a playable level maybe it is better to learn the execution order beforehand so you avoid a lot of the headaches Challenges mostly in math My part about the game was to make realistic manual shifting I enjoyed it The thing about the manual shifting could be seen in this photo reference Force applied to wheels isn t instant in internal combustion engines of course and as you can see it is being carried over the line that looks very similar to a sine wave I have done exactly that in the code so that part feels realistic To get that skewness in a line I scaled the angle passed to the sine wave function Also when shifting from e g st gear to th gear the car should turn off Torque is being carried between adjacent gears How I ve done that part can be seen below it s a sketch obviously but it conveys the message Solving heat challenges was also interesting to solve Feel free to take a look It was also interesting to tackle audio problems which I solved using audio pitch and audio intensity so it sounds realistic A few words about the deadlineThe game was done during the semester so it was stiff and tense with the time A lot of things could be implemented and fixed but time is the final judge It was done a few days shy of a month with no prior experience in making games What went goodBefore self criticism it s important to acknowledge what went well So here it is I ve worked with Git seamlessly also following the Gitflow concept more about it here math become sooo useful simulating torque with a sine wave transforming audio pitch delivered a game that worksgot my hands dirty in game development which I have never plannedtackled a surface of problems with graphicsorientation in D spacehow torque works in internal combustion engineshow the input system is done in Unity beautifully btw deeply understood the benefit of separation of configuration from code e g you can change the whole configuration of a car in JSON even when the game is installed stood on the shoulders of a giant working with free assets provided by the Unity community went unimaginably easyvideo editing could be done really fast if you don t have a lot of time left Recognized mistakes madeHuh sometimes audio of an engine doesn t catch up there s some bug with coroutines an opponent car shouldn t be driving in a God mode it was a quick solution though the graphics aren t realistica better indication that the car is turned offit s a bit too hardthere should be more obstacles so it could be more interestinga car should be able to drifta car should be able to roll over learned lessons There is a lot to be learned from developing games even though I don t plan to develop games professionally Math is hugely usable in game development I mean a lot Unity has beautiful useful tutorials and a big community It s incredibly easy to meet opportunities to manifest your knowledge about data structures algorithms and design patterns in game development because pretty quickly you ll hit performance boundaries which is nice Pick a Git strategy or pattern choose conventions and follow them you and your team it s worth it It s possible to make a game with no prior game developing experience although with a few years of programming experience on a level which is Manual Desire or better said beyond that level because you have this blog and I didn t have it C is cool although don t quite know why it has a lot of unneeded syntactic sugar myb it s better to focus on performance but anyway it rocks Developing a game is a fun challenge The realization that it s just magic and we re all incredibly lucky to live in a time where you can portray realistic D games on a computer that in the end only recognizes and Looking at the game a few months laterIt was fun It could be done wiser A lot of new has been learned Saw a completely new world I will hit graphics boundaries in another sector of IT but it s good knowing that a lot of challenges and lessons could be tackled in this field Glad that the project was finished just one week off the estimated time which could be seen as the biggest win A word about the beautiful tool GitI learned Git sometime before but never had practice with a team This was an eye opening experience finally a lot of lessons came into play I rocked Git only through a console and let me say it s wonderful Knowing how to use Git beyond basic commands is like having magic power at the tips of your fingers like you obtained a crystal that controls time or better said versions The next step is to deeply understand Git internals although I skimmed through internals there is more to reach there is more to explore Final wordThanks for reading Although it wasn t technical as I like it to be it was worth writing A few months passed by so a lot of technicalities have been forgotten sorry for that Fellow experienced game developers if you are reading this for whatever reason leave us your tips 海外TECH Engadget OnePlus 10T review: Speed above all https://www.engadget.com/one-plus-10-t-review-speed-above-all-specs-price-availability-153054303.html?src=rss OnePlus T review Speed above allWhen OnePlus does a mid year refresh of its phones typically you end up with a slightly snappier device with a handful of slight refinements But with the new OnePlus T it feels like a lot was sacrificed for the sake of going all in on speed Updates include a faster Snapdragon Gen chip a Hz display with an adaptive refresh rate even faster charging and some tweaks for improved wireless connectivity Unfortunately OnePlus signature Alert Slider and wireless charging have been removed and water resistance is weak So while the T is a solid device with an affordable price of it doesn t have the same mass appeal as some of OnePlus previous offerings DesignFor the T s design OnePlus recycled the template it created for the Pro but with some cost saving tweaks You get Gorilla Glass in front and back with the jade green model sporting the smooth shiny finish you d expect But on our Moonstone black review unit OnePlus used two different processes to add a textured finish the company says was inspired by basalt This makes the phone sparkle in the sunlight which might be nice for Twilight fans or people who aren t planning on immediately throwing this thing in a case That said I think you could get a similar effect with glitter but more than that it makes the back of the phone feel kind of plasticky as if it came out of a cheap D printer Don t get me wrong this is a really minor offense but if I was buying one I d go with the jade version The OPT also features three cameras in back with a smoothed out hump a speedy in screen optical fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers that are relatively loud though there isn t much to say about its overall audio quality Sadly what you won t find is an Alert Slider which is a feature that has been present on nearly every OnePlus phone since the OnePlus way back in OnePlus claims its removal is due to space requirements for larger antennas a bigger battery faster charging and more and that the slider will make a return on future devices But all that kind of makes not having it on the T feel even stranger while also removing one of the few features that gives the phone a bit of personality Furthermore as a downgrade from the OnePlus the T only gets IP dust and water resistance which is only rated to withstand a splash or two instead of a full minute dunk up to five feet like you used to get All around it feels like OnePlus is regressing a bit on the design front DisplaySam Rutherford EngadgetThe T packs a big inch x OLED display with flat edges and a Hz refresh rate there s very little to complain about here Colors are bright and punchy while still delivering lovely inky blacks Meanwhile using a light meter I found that the OPT s screen delivers a peak brightness just shy of nits which is great And thanks to the addition of an adaptive refresh rate that can switch from Hz to hz or hz depending on the content you also get improved battery life without impacting image quality PerformanceWhen it comes to speed one of the biggest upgrades is the move to Qualcomm s Snapdragon Gen chip which offers percent better power efficiency and percent faster graphics compared to the standard SD Gen You can also configure the OPT with up to GB of RAM which OnePlus claims is enough to hold up to apps open in the background along with up to GB of storage Sam Rutherford EngadgetAll this makes the phone feel rather spritely though there s not much that can really tax a phone with flagship level performance nowadays Honestly I can t think of or even apps I d want to keep running all the time and in side by side comparisons with SD Gen phones it s hard to discern much of an advantage in speed But if you absolutely need to have the fastest silicon you can get in an Android phone well here you go In addition to its new processor the T also gets the same Hz touch sampling rate you get on the Pro alongside OnePlus HyperBoost Gaming engine which attempts to smooth out any hiccups or stutters in your framerate And for people who care about getting the best Wi Fi speeds OnePlus also created its Smart Link feature which is designed to proactively seek out strong networks This works in tandem with the OPT s degree antenna design so you can get optimal signal strength regardless of how you re holding the phone or where your connection is coming from CamerasSam Rutherford EngadgetWhen it comes to photography the T s cameras are one of the biggest departures from its more expensive sibling Not only does the T not have any features or tuning from Hasselblad like you get on the Pro it also lacks a dedicated telephoto lens Instead you get a MP main camera based on a Sony IMX sensor an MP ultra wide cam and a MP macro cam Thankfully even without help from Hasselblad the T s image quality is still pretty good During the day you get rich saturated colors and relatively sharp details It was only after I compared the T s pics with similar shots from the Pixel a that I noticed it sometimes oversharpens things a touch or exaggerates more vivid colors like the oranges on a flower At night the T holds up pretty well too though I still have to give the Pixel a an advantage in low light thanks to Google s Night Sight mode In general the T captured sharp well lit images that were a touch behind what I shot using the Pixel a As for the other cams the ultra wide is totally serviceable and provides a more expansive degree field of view compared to the MP main lens Unfortunately the macro cam is kind of a bust because while it can take photos from just an inch and a half away cm its low resolution and hit or miss focus means you re often better off just using the main cam and cropping Battery life and chargingOk let s talk charging because while the watt charging on the Pro was anything but slow the new watt Super VOOC system on the T is ridiculously fast and actually lives up to OnePlus lofty claims Starting with just a one percent charge the OPT added just shy of percent battery in just minutes before going on to hit percent in minutes and percent in less than half an hour That s more than twice as fast as what you get from a lot of other high end Android phones including stuff like the S Ultra and its slower watt fast charging Sam Rutherford EngadgetThat said there are a number of caveats about the T s watt Super VOOC charging you should know The first is that you can only get these speeds when using OnePlus included power adapter and cable But hey at least you get a charging brick in the box unlike a lot of other phones When I tried charging the phone with two other watt or higher third party adapters the T added less than percent battery in minutes and that was even when using OnePlus cable Additionally because OnePlus power brick doesn t support the or volt outlets that are most common in the US charging actually caps out at watts However if you re in Europe or India you will get that full watts Finally for anyone dreaming of juicing up a laptop or some other gadget with OnePlus big brick you should know that standard USB PD charging is capped at watts And despite having a label on the brick that says watts regardless of where you are charging speeds cap out at watts Sam Rutherford EngadgetAs for battery life itself the T is downright fantastic Even though it has a slightly smaller capacity than the OP Pro mAh vs mAh it lasted almost hours on our video rundown test hours and minutes to be exact That s the best time we ve seen this year even beating out the Pixel a s mark of And for those worried about what the T s rapid charging might do to its battery health OnePlus says the phone has temperature sensors to make sure it doesn t overheat while charging while its duel cell power pack helps spread electrons more evenly and efficiently This is meant to help the T retain battery health after charging cycles though obviously we haven t had time to test that out fully SoftwareWhen it comes to software nowadays most Android phone makers have gotten their custom skins in a pretty decent spot However with OnePlus s OxygenOS having transitioned to a platform based on Oppo s ColorOS starting with the Pro and now the T things can feel a bit jarring for long time OnePlus fans That s because while you still get things like the OnePlus Sans font other elements like the settings menu UI and even some of OxygenOS s new sounds constantly remind you that this isn t the operating system you re used to Sam Rutherford EngadgetThere s a new Shelf that s sort of like a blend between the Control Center on iPhones and a dedicated place for widgets that feels somewhat redundant I ve also noticed some odd bugs and inconsistencies like not getting a pop up to enable file transfers when connecting the phone to a PC over USB C To fix this I had to manually enable Android s developer settings which isn t something that an average user should need or have to do On the bright side the T should enjoy solid software support with OnePlus promising at least three major Android updates and four years of regular security patches The company even says it plans to upgrade some of its phones to Android later this fall starting with the OnePlus Pro not the T and moving on from there AvailabilityThe OPT will be available in Europe on August th starting at € for the GB GB config or on September th in the US starting at For US customers there will also be a handful of pre sale dates on OnePlus com on August rd th th th th th and th th OnePlus says anyone who buys a phone during early access will also be eligible for a free upgrade to the GB GB config along with zero interest if you opt for the company s month payment plan Wrap upSo the big question is should you get one For the kind of people who crave speed the OnePlus T is an interesting device It has top of the line performance a big OLED screen and stupidly fast charging for just for GB of RAM and GB of storage or for the GB GB config Its camera quality is solid too even though I wish OnePlus had opted for a zoom lens instead of a macro And its battery life is truly superb Sam Rutherford EngadgetThe somewhat disappointing part are some of the cuts made to achieve all this speed You don t get OnePlus signature Alert Slider there s no support for wireless charging and its water resistance is mediocre Another annoying wrinkle is that OnePlus has yet to detail carrier compatibility for the US the company says more info will be available closer to launch stay tuned for updates So while it s super fast the OPT isn t as well rounded as phones like the Pixel To complicate things even more alongside the T s release OnePlus is permanently reducing OP Pro s starting price from to That puts the T in a tough spot between great values like the Pixel a or the Pixel and more full featured phones like the S and OP Pro But if you gotta go fast and want an affordable phone with excess haste the T might be exactly what you need 2022-08-03
