Why did the chicken cross the road A story about microservices farm animals couple s therapy and the joys of cookingLily the Hen is a master cook she s at the forefront of her profession and regarded by most as the leading chef in the industry Her assistant is Rusty the Rooster and together they set out to cook an answer to the ultimate question of nature Why did the chicken cross the road Lily and Rusty are a rockstar cooking team Whenever they enter a cooking competition they make the judges cry get handshakes and get asked for their recipes Lily can cook her peers into tears and is the envy of every restaurateur in town Rusty is like a cockerel shaped Robin that uses the underwear on the right side of the costume They can certainly cook their way out of a tough situation and do miracles with the most basic ingredients They could even take the jar of expired mayo and the two sad looking gherkins in my fridge and produce a tasty and wonderful functional specification If there s something they care about that s their craft and they re always looking for ways to make it more efficient One time they decided that in order to improve the quality and latency of their cooking they should Move in togetherThey reasoned that sharing an address space was the optimal way of cooking So they rented a small bedroom studio apartment in the artsiest neighborhood in town pooled resources shared rent and moved in At first things were great cooking at maximum speed no interruptions no distractions winning contests without even trying But soon the natural frictions of cohabitation started to pop up It all started with some political disagreement around endianness quickly followed by a stream of day to day impossibilities like the padding character of choice who kind of thing at some point Burnt cookiesBut the worst part was that their cooking was suffering as well Back when they were living together Lily would ask Rusty for some chopped onions and he would hand them over immediately Now the picture looked very different Lily would put on her coat leave the house lock the door behind her cross the street and ring Rusty wait for him to appear ask for the onions wait in the cold for what seemed like ages until Rusty produced the onions cross the street again marshal through the door take the coat off and finally use the onions More often than not it was too late her cooking had timed out and she had to start all over again Not to mention The risk oh the riskEven though everyone assured Lily and Rusty that this was an extremely safe neighborhood with a stable latency of single digit milliseconds they were very concerned What if they needed to cross the street in rush hour What if there was a parade or something There had to be a cap to all that networking optimism And what is the deal with that virtual private cloud anyway is it a virtual cloud that is private or is it a cloud that is virtually private I just called to say I need youWell at least they didn t depend on each other freedom was good right Truth is Lily crossed the street a lot those days What they thought was a beautifully acyclic directed relationship turned out to be a lot more complex as relationships often are Rusty soon discovered that eating raw onions all the time is no fun so he kept crossing the street to ask Lily for things In these strange times the bills and the failure modes kept stacking While metal freedom in their underwear and long nights of debauchery and deployment without giving explanations were great their hearts were not in it Their cooking was suffering and that was unacceptable One day their pet bats Coupling and Cohesion flew out the window into the freezing cold and they decided something had to be done House rulesMaybe they time to a two bedroom apartment They needed space to share and space to be alone They set up clear rules to live by interfaces they d call them and stuck with them as if their life or even more their cooking depended on them They supported each other while staying out of each other s way And of course they each got noise cancelling headphones to headbang to their heart s content because who the pluck would want to listen to the wrong kind of metal anyway |

My learning experience with Webladies Introduction I was accepted into the Webladies cohort mentorship program and for the past few weeks I ve been learning the fundamentals of web blockchain Ethereum and other technologies In this blog I ll be sharing what I ve learned so far The differences between Web Web and Web Web What Exactly Is Web The original iteration of the Internet known as Web was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency DARPA and was the first global network to reflect the future of digital communications It describes the initial iteration of what eventually developed into a platform with significant multi functional applications The early Internet consisted largely of web pages connected by hyperlinks lacking the modern day extra images controls and forms It was a read only web or one that wasn t interactive in any meaningful way according to experts The majority of web users were passive and most user inputs occurred offline Individual webpages were often composed of static pages that were stored on free web hosting services or web servers maintained by internet service providers ISPs Here are a few characteristics found in Web Its made up of static pages connected to a system via hyperlinksIt has HTML elements like frames and tablesHTML forms get sent through e mailThe content comes from the server s filesystem not a relational database management systemIt features GIF buttons and graphics Web Web refers to the second generation of the World Wide Web which is centered on enabling online collaboration and information sharing blockchain If the data is about Bitcoin the blockchain maintains information about a transaction such as the sender receiver and transaction amount Step hashA hash similar to a fingerprint is also included in the block When a block is created its hash is computed If something changes within the block the hash will change as well That is why hashing aids in detecting changes in a blockchain If a block s fingerprint changes it is no longer the same block Step Previous data hashA hash of a previous block is the final piece in a blockchain The hash of the preceding block aids in the creation of a chain and as a result of these aspects the blockchain is extremely secure to trust and use In a blockchain each block is linked to the previous hash s data but if any of the blocks data is tampered increase the total volume is through mining This is appropriate to the extent that in Ethereum too the only mode of issuance post launch is via mining Unlike these examples however mining is also the Amazon is buying a company that makes pallet stacking robotsAmazon has agreed to buy Cloostermans a company that makes robots capable of stacking pallets in its warehouses Amazon says it already uses Belgium based Cloostermans tech which can also package products After the acquisition closes Cloostermans or so employees will join the Amazon Global Robotics division in Europe and likely dedicate their time to solely building tech that suits Amazon s needs quot By focusing Cloostermans s deep experience in engineering machinery and robotics we will more rapidly deploy solutions in our workplace that support employees in their roles and improve safety at work and also help reduce packaging waste quot Amazon said in a press release The company has previously spoken of its belief that having more robots will improve worker safety Amazon has been introducing more robots to its warehouses to increase automation In June it revealed Proteus its first autonomous warehouse robot The device is capable of moving carts filled with packages by itself While Amazon has been relying more on robots at its fulfillment centers for several years the Cloostermans acquisition comes soon after employees at a Staten Island facility became the first Amazon warehouse workers to win a union election The company said in that automation isn t expected to replace human workers at warehouses for at least a decade |
