Am I a bleeding heart or is the culture just that different here CW Suicide A bit of a rant vent I apologize I also apologize if this is flaired wrong or just not appropriate for this sub A few days ago two children committed suicide by jumping in front of a train I don t pay much attention to the local news so I only overheard it from my coworkers and I just couldn t believe how they were talking about it All they cared about was if it impacted our coworkers or clients or how much money the family was going to have to pay as restitution for the quot inconvenience quot the children s deaths caused quot Inconvenience quot Fucking quot inconvenience quot Two kids are dead two kids fucking killed themselves and all the news reports get is some bullshit platitude from the school about quot regretting quot being quot unable to save the lives quot of their students What the fuck is this I felt like I m taking crazy pills that I was the only person in my office concerned with I don t know the emotional state of the family or what could have driven these kids to this point in the first place I know Japan has a really high suicide rate in general and I commute by train and frequently travel by shinkansen so I m used to JR s quot Human Damage Accident quot BS line they feed you every time somebody commits suicide by train It s a quot polite quot way to phrase it like saying someone quot passed away quot What I don t get is people laughing and going quot Oh yeah that means somebody jumped on the tracks quot and nonchalantly asking me if I had any trouble getting to work because of the quot inconsiderate quot victims Telling me quot You know it s a suicide and not an accident when it isn t on the news quot Maybe it s just because I ve struggled a lot with suicidal ideation in the past and have on occasion thought about it myself But fucking hell two junior high schoolers two sisters even if I read the news right decided their best course of action was to die and all anyone gives a shit about is quot inconvenience quot I don t know why this one got to me so badly compared to all the other times I ve heard about suicides but I have to wonder if I m the one with the weird perspective here submitted by u wantfastcarsjpn to r japanlife link comments |
