Open Source Projects for Hacktoberfest It s my favorite time of the year That s right it s Hacktober and our Deepgram DevRel team is ready to go with our Open Source projects We re also super excited to share that some of our community members are rolling out their own Deepgram projects If you haven t been down the Hacktoberfest path don t worry we ll fill you in What is Hacktoberfest Hacktoberfest is a month long event devoted to contributing to open source projects on GitHub or GitLab presented this year by DigitalOcean appwrite and docker Participants register on the Hacktoberfest site and during the month of October must have four pull merge requests accepted by an open source project that has opted into Hacktoberfest Deepgram s Open Source ProjectsWe can t keep away from this fun Here are the projects we re opting into Hacktoberfest Deepgram Node SDK Official JavaScript SDK for Deepgram s automated speech recognition APIs NET SDK NET SDK for Deepgram s automated speech recognition APIs Python SDK Official Python SDK for Deepgram s automated speech recognition APIs Deepgram Go SDK Community Go SDK for Deepgram s automated speech recognition APIs Deepgram Deno SDK Community Deno SDK for Deepgram s automated speech recognition APIsDeepgram Rust SDK Rust SDK for Deepgram s automated speech recognition APIs Deepgram Translation Chrome Extension A TypeScript chrome extension that uses Deepgram to provide live transcription and translation We have a variety of issues but if you see something that you d like to contribute feel free to create an issue or ask a question on our Community Forum We re not the only ones using Deepgram in a Hacktoberfest project though Check out some of our community members projects Gramcastr from DrewClem is a Next js project that will use Deepgram to generate podcast transcripts and summarize the projects Voice To Text Notes from JesseRWeigel is a basic speech to text app made with TypeScript that will add features like the ability to save text locally edit text and save text to a server We re super stoked to see what comes out of Hacktoberfest and we have some fun events planned as well check out our Events Category to see what Hacktoberfest events we have planned If you have an open source project you d like to share even if it doesn t have anything to do with Deepgram add it to our Open Source Project discussion so we can amplify what you re doing |

I Turned My Startup Into Open SourceI am posting a lot over dev to but I think nobody knows who I really am For the last ten years I have been playing the role of a full stack developer and a team leader for various companies After six years of work I decided I needed a change I quit my job and became a digital nomad Just a reminder that this was a pre covid time and remote working was not as today I was traveling with my friend without working just relaxing and I got a phone call from my previous company Please come work for us We will let you work part time remotely Back in the day that sounded like a dream and it really was This is me traveling in Taiwan But quickly enough I had too much free time so I decided to do something I had a bunch of failed startups projects Until I started Linvo Linvo was a good and bad startup at the same time On the one hand it gives a lot of value to sales and HR personas On the other hand it breaks Linkedin T amp S and that can get you banned from Linkedin I was determined to succeed and create revolutionary features such as the screen sharing app It worked for a while but wasn t sustainable and I didn t make enough money to live from it I flew back to my country to work for a few months in a coworking space on Linvo While there I met two super interesting friends Dima and Tomer the founders of Novu Novu was not a big success back then and we became good friends We talked about marketing sales and product You name it And just when I was about to fly again to another country they raised their M round for Novu They changed their product from a marketing product base to a developer one Just before they raised the money they offered me to join Novu I said NO I had to release Linvo and see what happens And then I flew to Thailand and got a message from Dima asking if I had changed my mind So I said maybe but let me deal with Linvo a little bit Finally after a while I decided it was time to sell Linvo and go all in with Novu So while I am in multiple due diligence with buyers I have decided to put some of the Linvo code out for open source That doesn t benefit a lot to Linvo as a SaaS product But I feel it connects me more with the open source movement so that I can learn a big part of it more You can check out the project here Please give me a star so I know I did something good Love you all |

EA starts rolling out a new PC app to replace OriginIt has been two years since EA announced it was working on a replacement for its Origin PC client and it s now starting to roll out the new app to Windows users The publisher claims that the EA app which has just concluded its open beta phase is its fastest and lightest PC client to date EA is promising a streamlined design and suggests navigation will be easier It seems the app has improved social features as well since you ll be able to connect your EA account to platforms including Steam Xbox and PlayStation ーwhich could come in handy for games with cross play support such as Apex Legends and FIFA You ll have a custom EA ID that should make it easy for your pals to recognize you The publisher says that it will soon invite Origin users to switch over to the new app As you might imagine all your stuff will be present including your games save data and friends list It s worth noting that the new client will only be available on Windows PC for now If you re a macOS user you ll continue to use the Origin for Mac app for the foreseeable future However EA noted that it will have more to share on that front in the coming months |
