Visual Studio Fonts Customization: Most Popular Fonts✔️ |
https://dev.to/bytehide/visual-studio-fonts-customization-most-popular-fonts-47mo
|
Visual Studio Fonts Customization Most Popular Fonts️When programming developers try to find a good coding environment configuration Font customization is an important aspect of creating a comfortable and efficient environment A well chosen font can improve readability reduce eye strain and enhance your overall experience using our IDE our eyes will thank us after spending so many hours in front of the screen Visual Studio provides several options for font customization including the ability to change font size and style Check how to customize your Visual Studio font settings and improve your coding experience How to Change Font size and style in Visual StudioGo to Tools gt Options gt Environment gt Fonts and ColorsIn the Fonts and Colors options select the text element you want to change the size for e g Text Editor Output Window You most likely want to change the style of the text editor so that option is selected by default Use the drop down menu to select the desired font size Recommendation Adjust the font size taking into account the size of your monitor and the distance from your eyes to it or use codingfont Click Apply and then OK to save your changes What are ligatures In typography ligatures are used to improve the appearance of text and to prevent certain characters from colliding with one another For example the letters “f and “i can be combined into a single ligature to prevent the dot of the “i from colliding with the crossbar of the “f In programming ligatures can make code more readable and easier on the eyes especially when using certain character combinations such as gt or gt This is because ligatures can prevent characters from colliding with one another and improve the overall appearance of the code Best Visual Studio FontsThere are developers who since they first installed Visual Studio have gotten used to the default font of the IDE and have therefore never changed it again On the other hand there are developers a minority but I know a few who change fonts from time to time to test new fonts If you are one of those who has the default font or simply want to try other fonts I recommend Codingfont In the form of a game you will have to choose the font that you like the most between the two that it shows you After several choices it will tell you which is your ideal font If you don t have time right now or want to know popular and most used fonts keep reading Popular font choices among developersIf we talk about the ideal font type for programming we should choose Monospace every character takes up the same amount of horizontal space resulting in a uniform appearance across text This is in contrast to proportional fonts in which characters take up different amounts of space depending on their width ConsolasThis font has been around for quite some time now It s still very popular among developers because this font has been used by Microsoft for a long time so I m sure you know this font well unless you use MacOs or Linux It was designed by Lucas de Groot and it was originally created for use in Visual Studio development environment and it has since become a popular font for programming and other technical uses The great thing about Consolas is its support for programming ligatures Consolas ligature test An example is O letter and number The number has slash making it easy to distinguish from the letter Cascadia MonoCascadia Mono is a great option Why Because it is the default Visual Studio font that s why it is in the top of the most popular fonts Most of the developers have not changed it It is a good font they have not had the need to look for a better font It draws inspiration from the Fira Code and Inconsolata fonts as well as from traditional monospace typefacesCascadia Mono ligature test When compared to Consolas Cascadia Mono has tighter proportions heavier weights and sharper curves making it an ideal choice for coding In this case Cascadia Mono differentiates the zeros from the letters O with a dot in the center Cascadia Code Fira CodeFira Code is a free and open source monospaced font designed by Nikita Prokopov It is derived from the Fira Mono font family and was created to improve the legibility of the code It includes several ligatures such as for the equals sign and greater than less than symbols as well as various punctuation marks which look better especially in a monospaced font When compared to Consolas and Cascadia Mono Fira Code is a more condensed typeface but it still retains good readability at smaller sizes Fira Code ligature test I recommend consulting FiraCode on GitHub to see the large number of features per programming language that this source has Fira Code JetBrains MonoJetBrains Mono is a new open source typeface created specifically for developers It was designed by the JetBrains team to provide maximum legibility and readability while still maintaining a professional look JetBrains is an industry leading software development company known for creating powerful and reliable IDEs languages and services JetBrains Mono also has ligatures and symbols Additionally JetBrains Mono offers more alternative characters and multiple weights allowing users to customize their text even further than Consolas or Cascadia Mono JetBrains ligature test JetBrains Mono Droid SansDroid Sans is a typeface designed by Google for use on the Android platform It is specially designed to make code easier to read and its clean lines provide an attractive look that makes it suitable for both programming and general text based applications Its character shapes are optimized for legibility and it provides support for a range of additional features including multiple weights and italics Droid Sans ligature test When compared to Fira Code and JetBrains Mono Droid Sans Mono is more conservative in its design with less emphasis on ligatures and symbols However it still offers the same high readability at small sizes Droid FontsThe font you choose for your Visual Studio environment can have a significant impact on your coding experience You can also customize the theme of your IDE I can tell you that there are many good themes already created that you just have to install and that s it Visual Studio Themes you Should Try Free Themes ️ ByteHide・Oct ・ min read visualstudio beginners programming |

How did I earn money to fix an issue from an Open Source Software (OSS)? |
https://dev.to/renanfranca/how-did-i-earn-money-to-fix-an-issue-from-an-open-source-software-oss-4kfm
|
How did I earn money to fix an issue from an Open Source Software OSS Originally published at renanfranca github ioI am going to share my approach and my own experience and opinion about fixing a bounty issue from the jhipster lite Open Source Software OSS Wich issue to chooseI got stuck for a long time because I couldn t decide which issue I should fix and I didn t have much time to spend fixing an issue I could only be coding while my baby girl was sleeping At first I created an issue to fix because I was afraid to fail to fix an existing issue Then I realized that isn t a good idea to implement a front end feature because my strength is back end code using spring boot After some time I decided to join together my goal to help the jhipster lite jhlite project by solving an issue with my need to earn money beyond my paycheck So I started to read the bounty issues list looking for an issue that demands only backend skills to fix In the end I decided to try to fix this issue Add the possibility to comment spring properties in modules How should I start to fix an issue I started to read the closed issues to understand and look for answers to my questions How an issue was assigned to someone Should I ask for permission to fix it before I start to try to fix it What happens if two contributors were trying to fix the same issue and both didn t ask for permission I found all the answers in the bounty issue instructions Create a Pull Request that fixes a ticket with the bug bounty label In order to close the ticket automatically you must have one commit message with the Fix keyword For example Fix to close ticket That Pull Request must be merged by someone from the core team If there are several Pull Requests the core team member either selects the most recent one or the best one that s up to the team member to decide what is best for the project In addition I realized that I was afraid of getting my attempt to fix declined by the reviewer So I decided to walk over my fear and try to fix and create a pull request as fast as possible to gather feedback positive or negative from the reviewer What did help me to fix the issue Here I will try to share some of my abilities and background knowledge which gives me the confidence to keep up coding until the issue got merged Learn about the jhipster lite projectIn my case I need to understand the project to be motivated to contribute to it Below I will list some interesting resources to fall in love with jhlite What is JHipster Lite Read everything at the jhipster lite contributing guideWhat is JHipster Lite and why should you care by Julien DuboisExcelente content showing how to use jhipster lite and Julien will guide you through jhlite options In the end you will create the demo project and could explore it by yourself That was so cool How to contribute to JHipster by Anthony Viard and Sohini PattanayakI learn a lot of tricks with this video which covers how to contribute to jhipster lite for example name my branch using the GitHub issue number add comment spring properties in modules Simple WebServices with JHipster Lite by Colin DamonHere you will learn how jhipster lite could be your best friend in coding This great demo was made by the reviewer of my pull request Hi Colin Study Hexagonal ArchitectureHexagonal architecture application service flavor I cloned the jhipster lite project and run it in debug mode to learn more about the code base which I am going to change Then I realized that a better approach is to run the implemented tests in debug mode The test works as a documentation of the functionalities Affinity and joy in implementing TestsI believe that implementing tests is the way to build great software The jhipster lite project is configured to accept only test coverage code So any change made in this project needs to be tested The test code should be as good as the production code that s not a trivial task In my opinion the jhlite project has a high quality code base and I had to do my best to implement a feature with the best code I could make Know in advance some technologiesMavenJavaJacocoCucumberJUnitSpring BootVS CodePrettierSonarGit especially rebase commands GitHub Actions CI Fork Issues and Create Pull Request My workflowI will share my workflow which I used to fix improve and refactor the code each time my pull request was reviewed Before pushing my changes to be reviewedHere is the script I used to keep my branch up to date with the latest version of the jhipster lite main branch git switch maingit fetch upstreamgit rebase upstream maingit pushgit switch lt my branch name gt git rebase origin mainnpm run prettier formatThen I run the sonar after I finished coding docker compose f src main docker sonar yml up d mvnw clean verify sonar sonarSo you can check the result at http localhost to see if you match the code coverage or if you need to fix any code smells Keep the pull request reviewer informedEvery time I pushed some changes I let the reviewer know and I always answers each code review he made I preferred to push the changes even though I didn t fully understand what the review wants because in my experience is easier to talk about an implemented code than a hypothetical one There is a Contributor Covenant Code of ConductIn the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment we as contributors and maintainers pledge to making participation in our project and our community a harassment free experience for everyone regardless of age body size disability ethnicity gender identity and expression level of experience nationality personal appearance race religion or sexual identity and orientation In my own experience as a contributor I can say that everyone who I interacted with was kind and genuinely wants the best for the project I felt that they appreciate my effort to fix an issue and they were cheering me up Claim the bountyAfter my pull request got merged I was eligible to claim the bounty First I create an invoice at open collective bug bounty claim for Then I published the invoice link at my pull request issuecomment After some time the invoice was processed and I got paid ️ The official documentation explains each step to claim your bounty How to get the money What was the outcome of this experience I am a Windows user but I am migrating to use Linux Ubuntu through wsl because It is faster On windows took me minutes and seconds to run the command mvnw clean verify sonar sonar On Linux the same command took me minutes and seconds I found this great YouTube video How To Run Linux Code on Windows with WSL amp VS Code which taught me how to use Linux for coding inside Windows In addition my developer experience was lighter and smoothly with VS Code running under Linux I enjoyed working on the jhlite project without being pressured and asynchronously I could code when I have the time on my own passe I realized that I am not an expert in the TDD field I have so much to learn Here is an interesting article that opens my eyes The Real Reasons for Doing Test Driven Development Thanks to Colin Damon for letting me know that I was doing Test First and not TDD and for introducing the concept of Software Craftsmanship Thanks to Pascal Grimaud for being around and following along on the issue What nextI am planning to continue to contribute to the jhlite project by fixing issues and keep writing blog posts about my experience with jhipster One day I wish to be part of the jhipster core team |

Adding Loaders to React using Chakra UI IntroductionThere are various components in a modern website We try to implement those that are necessary and often forget some components This component is necessary for accessibility Loaders are that component Loaders will let tell the user that some processing is going on In this way they don t feel like changing the web page if nothing is shown We are going to implement different loaders in a React application This loaders component is provided by Chakra UI It generates things to include for this article for the React based framework It is the best library for having UI components You can easily customize it according to your theme In this article we are going to implement the following loaders Progress barCircular ProgressSpinnerSkeleton Loading Installing Chakra UI to ReactIf you initialize the project then you can use a code template for installing React with Chakra UI Here is the command npx create react app my app template chakra uiFor manual installation to an existing React project you can run the below command npm i chakra ui react emotion react emotion styled framer motionIn this method we also need to set up the ChakraProvider at the top of our app In the index js file add the following code import as React from react import ChakraProvider componentimport ChakraProvider from chakra ui react function App Wrap ChakraProvider at the root of your app return lt ChakraProvider gt lt App gt lt ChakraProvider gt Now let s add a loader to the application Progress barFor the prgoress bar we have a Progress component from Chakra UI You can import it with the below code import Progress from chakra ui react Use the component as lt Progress value gt The value denotes the loading percentage You can use a state to change as per loading Also you can create an Animated progress bar that will not require any value It will be just loading again and again Here is the code lt Progress size xs isIndeterminate gt You can take a look at the examples here Circular ProgressCircular progress is the same as the progress bar but in the circle You can import the CircluarProgress from the Chakra UI library Use the component as lt CircularProgress value gt This will produce the circular progress with the loaded percentage as You can add a text denoting the loaded value inside the circle with CircularProgressLabel component Use the component as lt CircularProgress value gt lt CircularProgressLabel gt lt CircularProgressLabel gt lt CircularProgress gt You can create an infinite loading circle with the props isIndeterminate inside the component It is the same as the progress bar Use the component as lt CircularProgress color purple isIndeterminate gt Note You can give different colors to the loaders with color props You can take a look at the examples here SpinnerThe spinner is quite the same as an infinite circular loading screen The only change is the animation In the spinner it is constant Use the component as lt Spinner gt You can give different props such as thickness speed color and empty color lt Spinner thickness px speed s emptyColor gray color teal size xl gt Speed is the time to complete one circular animation It takes in as seconds unit emptyColor is the color of the empty area while color is the loading spinner color Note You can give size prop to any loader to adjust the size of the component You can take a look at the examples here Skeleton LoadingThe most interesting loading component is this one It is now being used by most modern websites There are three components for skeleton loading Skeleton It is for loading a div that takes some space on the webpage SkeletonCircle It is for loading a circle object SkeletonText It is for text loading You can import all from the library Skelton For the skeleton we just need to provide the height props for the height of the div Use the component as lt Skeleton height px gt SkeletonCircleIt is the same as the Skeleton but the div is the circle You can adjust the size of the circle with size props Use the component as lt SkeletonCircle size gt SkeletonTextAdd the SkeletonText for loading the text You can add the number of lines and skeleton height Use the component as lt SkeletonText noOfLines skeletonHeight gt You can take a look at the examples here ConclusionWe have taken a look at different loading components that are provided by Chakra UI This loading component will be enough for any website to implement a loading screen I use Chakra UI for building my components It is quite easy to install and use Along with the loading screen I will also recommend you look into other components of Chakara UI I hope the article has helped you in understanding the different loading screens of Chakra UI Thanks for reading the article |

Amplify AppSync Permission |
https://dev.to/aws-builders/amplify-appsync-permission-25j9
|
Amplify AppSync PermissionHi With Amplify AppSync it is possible to configure an AWS AppSync with declarative code With Directives like model auth or function other AWS services like DynamoDB Cognito or Lambda can be connected to AppSync in a meaningful way This makes it a powerful tool With just a few lines of GraphQL code a lot can be configured in AWS so to speak Below you can see an Amplify AppSync example type User model key fields email auth rules allow groups groups admin allow private provider iam allow owner ownerField email identityClaim email email String role Role There is a lot going on here With the model directive a DynamoDB table with the name User is automatically created which stores the user entries as DynamoDB items With key the email is set as PK Partition Key The permission who is allowed to access the items is defined with auth A user in the admin group is allowed to query mutate and subscribe to all items With allow private provider iam an IAM entity that has the required permissions is also allowed to querry mutate and subscribe to the items I use this for example with lambdas that should perform certain tasks like creating new users in the table when they log in via Cognito for the first time Last but not least with allow owner ownerField email identityClaim email Cognito users who have identified themselves via oauth are allowed to access their items The identity claim email is supplied by the Cognito JWT token and is then matched with the email defined in the item Pretty cool isn t it With just these few lines of Amplify AppSync GraphQL code we get a lot of functionality Permission for shared itemsDefining permission with auth works very well for simple cases like the user example shown here But what if you want to access items from multiple users Well here are several possibilities I want to introduce But first I will introduce the table with the shared items type Project model auth rules allow groups groups admin allow private provider iam id ID projectNumber Int A project should be accessible to several users The simplest approach would be to store the users in a string list String ListThe code must be adapted only minimally with type Project model auth rules allow groups groups admin allow private provider iam allow owner ownerField userEmails identityClaim email id ID projectNumber Int userEmails String lt user string list The userEmails string list now just needs to be kept up to date with the emails from the users who can access it However managing the userEmails is costly and requires additional code and space in the item Virtual LambdaWe could also use a virtual lambda which dynamically calculates if the user should have access or not type Project model auth rules allow groups groups admin allow private provider iam allow owner ownerField userEmail identityClaim email id ID projectNumber Int userEmail String function userEmailLambda The solution is impressive because of the reduced space in the DynamoDB table However with a large number of items it would mean a large number of lambda calls which would drive up the cost Also the delay due to the lambda call can be too significant JWT ClaimThis idea is probably the most creative Using the pre token generation trigger Lambda a claim can be set which signals which item may be accessed The code for Amplify AppSync looks something like this type Project model auth rules allow groups groups admin allow private provider iam allow owner ownerField id identityClaim currentProjectId id ID projectNumber Int The identity claim currentProjectId is set by the pre token generation trigger Lambda I find this method the most elegant and use it in my projects The code for the lambda might look something like this import AppsyncClient from appsync client import as lambda from aws lambda import CreateUserDocument GetUserDocument Role from stueli src lib api const APPSYNC URL process env const client new AppsyncClient apiUrl APPSYNC URL param event export async function handler event lambda PreTokenGenerationTriggerEvent console debug event JSON stringify event const getUser await client request query GetUserDocument variables email event request userAttributes email console debug getUser JSON stringify getUser event response claimsOverrideDetails claimsToAddOrOverride getUser currentProjectId currentProjectId getUser currentProjectId console debug event response claimsOverrideDetails JSON stringify event response claimsOverrideDetails return event The Lambda determines first which Project the user may access with currentProjectId and then it sets the claim currentProjectId Now must be implemented of course still like the user the currentProjectId at all change and or set can and like afterward the JWT Token is reloaded In my case this happens when the user clicks on the project via the React router First the currentProjectId entry is made in the user table and then the JWT token is reloaded using the JWT Refresh token If you would like to have this in detail please write me ConclusionI have presented here different methods of how permissions can be realized with the Amplify AppSync directive auth If you have any other cool ideas feel free to let me know I love to work on Open Source projects A lot of my stuff you can already use on If you like my work there and my blog
