海外TECH DEV Community ✨ We won one of the biggest hackathons in Toronto! ✨🥇 https://dev.to/saminarp/we-won-one-of-the-biggest-hackathons-in-toronto-2o1j We won one of the biggest hackathons in Toronto I love hackathons I love the intense sleepless nights working on a project that I deeply care about Winning hackathons also opened doors to work opportunities for me in ways unimaginable On May th I took part in the Thinking North Smart Cities Hackathon organized by Seneca College people registered as participants for the event from all over Canada and beyond There were six challenge sets and participants were free to choose one and create an innovative service or product in that space My team Foam on Latte won first prize in the hackathon Team Foam on Latte creates Mood Vault in hours My team was a dream team of three full stack developers who worked with mindblowing efficiency to bring the product from ideation to prototype within just hours The team members along with me were Batuhan Ipci and Hien Nguyen Inspired by my mental health battles and then watching a loved one suffer from OCD to the point that it was interfering with her daily life I knew I had to go with the mental health challenge set So I came up with a list of ideas and pitched them to my team convincing them to pursue the mental health category The brainstorming process We asked ourselves a few important questions for the brainstorming process What is the current communication process like between doctors and patients What are the areas of inefficiencies How do therapists collect insights about their patients What is the review process like for therapists How do therapists make decisions Through all these questions we recognized the lack of a system that allowed therapists to monitor their patients mood changes and emotions in real time between counselling sessions or therapy appointments To fill in this gap we created MoodVaultーa platform enabling daily mood tracking and journaling powered by AI summarization for therapists to review between appointments Mood Vault proficiently detects and analyzes sentiments expressed within journal entries by leveraging the power of Natural Language Processing NLP It goes beyond mere sentiment analysis by identifying signs of suicidal ideation and promptly alerting therapists if such indicators are present in the logs The current system supports translation services encompassing a staggering languages effectively eliminating language barriers that may impede effective communication between patients and therapists It gets even better an integrated transcription functionality allows patients to articulate their thoughts and feelings using the device s built in microphone thus removing the need for manual typing This feature extends accessibility to a diverse range of individuals including the elderly the visually impaired and others who may encounter difficulties with traditional text based input methods Many mentors and judges expressed how this product could be adapted to other use cases such as case managers collecting stories from the field which could be easily summarized for faster processing and gaining better insights The elderly could use it to log in their daily health conditions or thoughts and be especially helpful if they have memory loss issues The system architecture Our front end was created with React using Vite and Tailwind CSS The backend was done using several AWS services We created a cost effective and efficient backend system that utilizes serverless architecture to handle over requests per second The system is highly available secure and reliable to handle long waiting tasks asynchronously while also implementing error handling retrying mechanisms and logging mechanisms for debugging We implemented a flawless authentication system to safeguard user identity and their data This system can be extended to integrate with existing clients business authentication systems using AWS Cognito and custom authorizers for fine grained access control Summarization was done using AWS Sage makerText Sentiment analysis was done using AWS Comprehend Translation for languages was done using AWS Translate Transcription was done through AWS Transcribe Keeping user information secureGiven the nature of our system where therapists and patients share their private information and details security and confidentiality were crucial to address We used AWS Cognito which provides security by offering user authentication and authorization services including features like multi factor authentication encryption identity federation and fine grained access control ensuring secure access to applications and protecting user data In the frontend we used Content Delivery Network CDN that protects through various mechanisms CDNs provide protection through Distributed infrastructure for improved availability and resilience DDoS mitigation to detect and block large scale attacks Caching to reduce the load on origin servers and deliver content faster SSL TLS encryption for secure data transmission Benefits of using Lambda functionsIf you look through our system architecture diagram you will see that we have used a lot of lambda functions Lambda functions have many benefits Scalability Automatically scale to handle high traffic without manual server management Cost efficiency Operated on a pay as you go model eliminating the need to provision and maintain idle servers and resulting in potential cost savings Reduced operational burden Focus on coding while infrastructure management is handled Faster time to market Swift development and deployment without a server setup Increased scalability and availability Highly available and fault tolerant for reliable performance Seamless integration Easily integrate with AWS and third party services Flexibility and extensibility Support multiple languages for diverse use cases Cost comparisonEvery pitch deck requires a cost or pricing model Our serverless architecture helped us prove to the judges how this leads to cost saving benefits compared to a monolithic architecture Cost efficiency Operated on a pay as you go model eliminating the need to provision and maintain idle servers and resulting in potential cost savings Automatic scaling Dynamically allocates resources based on workload scaling up or down as needed avoiding over provisioning and reducing costs Reduced operational overhead Serverless architectures relieve developers from tasks like server provisioning and maintenance reducing operational costs and efforts Development efficiency Serverless architecture promotes modularity allowing independent development and deployment of functions leading to faster development cycles and potential cost savings Optimized resource utilization Serverless platforms allocate resources on demand ensuring efficient resource utilization and minimizing costs associated with underutilization From hackathon to startup We received a lot of interest in our project as judges were blown away by our presentation innovation and the way Mood Vault would change the way patients and therapists communicate We are currently making our minimal viable product MVP even better and more secure We are fixing the UI UX and preparing a better pitch deck along with it After this phase of development we hope to partner with mental health organizations or a university college for piloting Mood Vault Foam on Latte as your mentor After our hackathon win a lot of students and recent grads approached us for advice and mentorship We received questions about cloud computing working under pressure career development and strategies to win hackathons We thought why not brand ourselves under foam on latte and start offering mentorship in a more professional and organized way Foam on Latte has become more than just a team name it is now an identityーa symbol of our journey from hackathon success to mentors and consultants You can message us anytime on Foam on Latte and ask for mentorship P S We became kind of famous on LinkedIn before the hackathon final round when I shared the behind the scenes of our hackathon work Watch it here I guess that was good accidental marketing on our end Follow us on the Foam on Latte Instagram page 2023-05-24 22:34:44

海外TECH DEV Community Building and deploying a web API powered by ChatGPT https://dev.to/ruarfff/building-and-deploying-a-web-api-powered-by-chatgpt-3og9 Building and deploying a web API powered by ChatGPTChatGPT is an interesting tool It makes certain things that used to be hard to do pretty easy In some cases it introduces new concepts you may not have thought to do before OpenAI provides some sdks to help build on top of ChatGPT In this post we ll take a simple idea implemented using ChatGPT and deploy it In a follow up post we ll look at how to operate the application in production We will also look at how to overcome some of the challenges of using ChatGPT in a live application Note to follow along fully you will need to sign up for various services OpenAI in particular is not free although it does have a free trial Our Sample AppIn the DeeplearningAI Prompt Engineering Course there is a section on summarising content This is an interesting function and one that would be quite tricky to do without using an LLM or some form of NLP In our sample application we will use the NYTimes API to pull in the top stories for today We will get ChatGPT to summarise the stories and we will show that summary The end result is available to view at The sample code for this is available in repos Feel free to ignore the UI code if you wish as it s only there to display the data pulled from our API ToolsOur API is built using FastAPI which is a Python web framework We can use the NYTimes API to get some news and the OpenAI API to run ChatGPT We can deploy to fly io For the UI we ll use vanilla JavaScript CSS and HTML GitHub will make an appearance with a section on building a deployment pipeline using GitHub actions That will be in part We ll also end up using Python Docker and Git SetupUnfortunately this full setup requires and lot of signing up for stuff and getting API Keys I hope you ll bear with me If you want a secure way to store these API keys locally check out my post on that Get an NYTimes API KeyFor this follow the NYTimes setup guide In short Go here click Create Account unless you already have one Once logged in go to My Apps and add a new app One you select the new app you should see an API key Copy that API key and make it available in an environment variabled called NYTIMES API KEY Not sure what I mean by set and environment variable Check out this post Get a ChatGPT API KeyGo to the OpenAI API page Go to API Keys Once you have your key add it to an environment variable called OPENAI API KEY Note OpenAI s API is a paid service You will get a free trial when you sign up If like me you signed up ages ago forgot about it and have lost your free trial you will need to add a payment method Everything I did while testing this stuff out cost about cents but I added euros to my account Hopefully you have the free trial Fly ioIf you want to make something available on the internet you need to deploy it somewhere There are a vast number of options Fly io is one that is currently free You can also setup a free database and even a free redis cache Sign up for a free account at That s all you need for now Creating the AppThis is a step by step guide You could skip this whole section pull down the code and run it If you would like a deeper explanation of all the bits though read on FastAPI AppWe re going to use Python for the backend API FastAPI is a nice framework Both Openai and NYTimes provide Python packages for interacting with their API This again is a step with many options The following is one way to go about doing it Create a directory for your project I called my app Summer because it sounds like summarise ¯ ツ ¯Call yours whatever you wish but replace summer in the various examples I like to use a directory under my home directory called dev and put my repos in there Note All these commands assume you re using a reasonable shell not Cmd exe mkdir dev summer apicd dev summer apiI m using the api suffix here because I want to keep my backend and frontent in two different repositories Initialize git so we can keep our changes in source control git initYou must have Python installed on your system I m currently using Python but most versions from on should be fine Consider using pyenv to manage your Python installations if you don t already Install poetry pip install poetryWe ll use poetry as it simplifies dependency management and makes it easier to run virtual environments Setup our python project with poetry poetry initYou will be asked for various inputs Most of them are obvious The main thing is the match the dependnecies Package name summer api Version Description Summarising the news Author Your name here n to skip Your nameLicense MITCompatible Python versions Would you like to define your main dependencies interactively yes no yes You can add dependencies during the init or just skip that and paste the dependencies listed below into the pyproject toml file resulting in this tool poetry name summer api version description Summarising the news authors Your name license MIT readme README md packages include summer api tool poetry dependencies python fastapi uvicorn extras standard version pynytimes openai fastapi cache redis tool poetry group dev dependencies httpx pytest black build system requires poetry core build backend poetry core masonry api Feel free to update the versions although they will not be guaranteed to work with the code in this post Make sure to run poetry install if you manually update the pyproject yml file Create a directory for our source code mkdir appCreate a main file touch app init pytouch app main pyOpen app main py in an editor and enter the following from fastapi import FastAPIapp FastAPI app get def index return msg Welcome to the News App Run the app poetry run uvicorn app main app reloadYou should see output like this INFO Will watch for changes in these directories dev summer api INFO Uvicorn running on Press CTRL C to quit INFO Started reloader process using WatchFilesINFO Started server process INFO Waiting for application startup INFO Application startup complete You can go to http localhost in your browser or hit it with curl e g curl http localhost msg Welcome to the News App Get top stories from NYTimesCreate a client touch app nytimes client pyIn that file setup a call to get today s top stories import osfrom pynytimes import NYTAPI This is the API Key we setup and added to the env earlierAPI KEY os getenv NYTIMES API KEY nyt NYTAPI API KEY parse dates True def get top stories return nyt top stories news return get top stories Run the app and test it if the app was already running the reload flag will have made it restart so you don t have to run it again curl http localhost newsIf you have jq installed you can use it to make the output look nicer curl http localhost news jqYou should get a pretty big output here with a list of stroies and lots of content Summarise the newsNow we ll introduce ChatGPT Create a new file touch app summariser pyThe code in this file is explained using inline comments import osimport openai You will need to get your API key from openai api key os getenv OPENAI API KEY Got this function from this amazing course def get completion prompt model gpt turbo messages role user content prompt response openai ChatCompletion create model model messages messages temperature this is the degree of randomness of the model s output return response choices message content def summarise news stories stories Takes in a list of news stories and prompts ChatGPT to generate a short summary of each story based on the provided Section Subsection Title and Abstract The function returns the summary generated by ChatGPT Args stories str A list of news stories to be summarised Each story should be a block of text with the following format where each part is on a newline Section the section Subsection the subsection Title the title Abstract the Abstract The values for Subsection and Abstract can be empty strings if not applicable Returns summary str A string containing the summary generated by ChatGPT for all the news stories print Beginning summary prompt f Your task is to generate a short summary of a series of news stories given the Section Subsection Title and Abstract of each story The sections are after the Section The subsections are after the Subsection The subsections can be empty The title is after the Title The abstract is after the Abstract The abstract can be empty Summarise the stories below delimited by triple backticks in the style of an AI trying to convey information to humans Please use paragraphs where appropriate and use at most words Stories stories return get completion prompt Formatting the storiesWhile we could probably have gotten ChatGPT to figure out the JSON from the NYTimes API it s no harm to reduce the amount of stuff we send to it so let s format the stories to send to ChatGPT Create another file touch app story formatter pyAdd a function to that file to format the stories so we only send the content we need def format stories to string stories stories string for story in stories title story title abstract story abstract section story section subsection story subsection stories string f Section section Subsection subsection Title title Abstract abstract return stories string The news endpointNow we can put everything together Update our app main py file to look like the following import osfrom fastapi import FastAPI HTTPExceptionfrom nytimes client import get top storiesfrom story formatter import format stories to stringfrom summariser import summarise news storiesapp FastAPI app get def index return msg Welcome to the News App app get news def news summary images try stories get top stories for story in stories images extend story multimedia summary summarise news stories format stories to string stories images list filter lambda image image format Large Thumbnail images except Exception as e print e raise HTTPException status code detail Apologies something bad happened return summary summary images images You can now test it out but note the call to ChatGPT takes a very long time We will look at how to deal with that issue in part of this series curl http localhost newsThis should output a summary of the news as well as a list of all the related images There s another step we need before we setup a UI for this Our API expects any calls in the browser to come from the same URL as our application This is a security mechanism called Cross Origin Resource Sharing CORS We need to update our API to allow requests from our UI To make that work in our main py add and configure the CORS middleware from fastapi middleware cors import CORSMiddlewareapp add middleware CORSMiddleware allow origins allow credentials True allow methods allow headers Note for allow origins you actually want to be very specific once you know the URL your UI is at e g allow origins http localhost Using the wildcard here so it will just work but please keep this in mind In the sample code on GitHub there s a better example Setup our UIThis is totally optional so we will quickly go through the steps mkdir dev summer uicd dev summer uigit initmkdir apptouch app index htmltouch app script jstouch app style cssIn the app index html file lt DOCTYPE flyctl secrets set OPENAI API KEY OPENAI API KEY All going well your API should be up an running Mine for example is here You will have a unique URL for your app For the UI we can do something similar cd dev summer uiFirst update the script in the UI so it points to the new URL for your API So this bit window onload function fetch There you should replace with your URL Then create a Dockerfile touch DockerfileAdd the following content to the Dockerfile FROM pierrezemb gostaticCOPY app srv http EXPOSE happens to be the port that image uses by default Run fly fly launchFly launch creates a file in your repo called fly toml I hit an issue where I needed to update that file to the following in my UI because it defaulted to the wrong port app summer ui primary region cdg kill signal SIGINT kill timeout processes experimental allowed public ports auto rollback true services http checks internal port processes app protocol tcp script checks services concurrency hard limit soft limit type Make sure to update the app and primary region to the correct values for your app ImprovementsThis post is already huge so I will put all the improvements into their own post In the next post we ll look setting up a continuous delivery pipeline use redis to cache ChatGPT responses and speed up our siteWe ll also look at some other interesting practices you might want to do when building a producton app in a bonus section Part coming soon Thank you for reading 2023-05-24 22:32:42
