Do most Japanese wives stay at home even without kids I don t mean to ask it as if there s a Japanese stereotype or something it s just that I feel there s a culture barrier or something somewhere For the past years my wife just seems as if she really doesn t want to work and wants to just stay at home even though we have no kids She currently works days a week but I felt like I had to force her into doing it because I can t see any reason why she should just be at home all the time with nothing to do whilst we struggle to afford a decent lifestyle with holidays good food etc My other issue is why should the Japanese national who has hundreds of job prospects be expecting the foreigner who has barely any prospects here Nagoya to be some breadwinner who brings in all of our income It seems super unfair for the person who has Japanese nationality to just be sitting around on YouTube all day She has no routine for the house and doesn t manage chores or anything at all The house is a mess She cooks and that s literally it all of the clothes are washed using a washing machine and tumble dryer then she just leaves the dried clothes in a pile I never see her clean or anything I work from home and I just see her on YouTube all the time all day Idk it just seems really lazy and if I start asking her to work more she just tries to avoid conflict doesn t want anything to change then just stops listening to me The next day she s back to watching YouTube all day I would completely understand if we had kids but we don t We have no responsibilities or reasons to be home Me and my brother were both raised by a strong widowed mother who had her back against the wall every single day I just feel un attracted to people who have no initiative and don t go out and work even when we have no kids Is there some kind of culture barrier I m missing Does the woman still stay at home after marriage in Japan She s I m Just why We have no kids no responsibilities we re just married and living together Why should the Japanese person be basically staying at home every day whilst the foreigner goes out to work in a world he doesn t fully understand submitted by u Unchigadechatta to r japanlife link comments |
