How to refresh next-i18next content update automatically? |
https://dev.to/riywo/how-to-refresh-next-i18next-content-update-automatically-1e83
|
How to refresh next inext content update automatically tl drIf you want to refresh your Next js app using next inext automatically you can do it like below import GetStaticProps from next import in from next inext import serverSideTranslations from next inext serverSideTranslations import useRouter from next router import useEffect from react import Home from components home export const getStaticProps GetStaticProps async locale gt if process env NODE ENV development await in reloadResources return props await serverSideTranslations locale common const Index gt if process env NODE ENV development const router useRouter useEffect gt const timer setInterval gt router replace router asPath undefined scroll false return gt clearTimeout timer return lt Home gt export default Index What was the issue When I started using next inext I realized next dev server only loaded the translation files once when initialized and never updated even if I reloaded the page on my browser since server side doesn t change Whenever I updated the translation I needed to restart next dev server which was bad developer experience Alternative solutionsThat is a known limitation and there are multiple GitHub issues like this I was able to find two approaches Restart next dev automatically whenever the content is updated Poll API endpoint to monitor the content update and refresh the content The option is simple and nodemon can easily achieve the goal However this is not Fast Refresh and takes a while The option seems better because next dev server keeps running but too complicated to implement internal API It can be done without API like next remote watch which monitors files and calls Next js s internal method to reload the page I tried it but it still requires implementation of content refresh by calling in reloadResources anyway Also page refresh is not Fast Refresh neither SolutionThen I realized this can be done much simpler First of all it anyway requires polling from client side because there is no public method to execute Fast Refresh from Next js server side Using internal method like next remote watch does is not sustainable Therefore client side polling is the best way However setting up an API i e api something for such a simple polling seems overkill I thought it s probably enough by just re rendering the page With this approach unless the virtual DOM of React has been updated nothing happens on client side I think Now how I can tell the translation files change to the client Next js has a good mechanism to provide props to page i e GetStaticProps which is already used by next inext installation I found a great solution to trigger this from client side In addition I found that it can call in reloadResources there because in instance is stored in a global value I lazily implemented it with reloading in at every request because my project doesn t have large translation files This can eliminate file watcher logic at all ConclustionNow by adding a simple SetInterval to refresh the page every seconds on client side and reloading in on every GetStaticProps call my Next js pages are always in sync every seconds This is Next js React refresh not browser refresh nor server restart thus it s fast enough Let me know if you have a better solution or if you find a drawback of this solution |

How I structure my NextJs projects |
https://dev.to/josemukorivo/how-i-structure-my-nextjs-projects-5n8
|
How I structure my NextJs projectsAs you know React is not an opinionated library What that means is that there is no clearly defined way of doing things for instance React doesn t force you to structure your projects in a certain way All that is left for you the developer Here we are going to be using NextJS which is a framework built on top of React NextJS helps us by optimizing our app through code splitting image optimization static site generation server side rendering etc In this article we are ignoring all this awesomeness as it is not the focus of the article I recommend looking at NextJs docs if you are new to it Below is a high level folder structure of our app src ┣charts ┃┣index js ┃┗sunburst js ┣components ┃┣breadcrumb ┃┃┣styles ┃┃┃┗breadcrumb js ┃┃┗index js ┃┗index js ┣containers ┃┣index js ┃┗navbar js ┣fixtures ┃┗data json ┣lib ┃┗gtag js ┣pages ┣public ┃┣fonts ┃┃┗Arial ┃┣icons ┃┣images ┃┃┣svg ┃┣videos ┃┣manifest json ┃┣sitemap xml ┃┗sw js ┣scripts ┃┗generate sitemap js ┣styles ┣utils ┣ env ┗next config jsYes I know this looks a bit complex Let s demystify it by looking at each folder separately ChartsUsually my applications have some charts to visualize data All my charts will be located here and exported from an index js file that acts as a barrel ComponentsThis is probably the most interesting folder because that s where you will spend most of your time in For each component in my components I create a separate folder for it and in that folder I create an index js file to export the component and a separate folder for the component styles There is also an index js file in the components folder that exports all the components If you then want to import say a lt Button gt component you will do it like so import Button from components ContainersThis folder is also important Components acts as atoms and if we combine those atoms we form elements For example if we combine links buttons and grids components atoms we can create a navbar container element This makes it easy to compose to UIs These containers are imported in pages to form the complete webpages FixturesThis folder contains some static data like a list of all links LibFiles in this directory acts as an interface between our application and external libraries like google analytics PublicThis folder host the static files like images fonts videos sitemaps service workers etc ScriptsThis folder contains some scripts that I usually run at build time like generation of sitemaps StylesGlobal styles are stored in this directory UtilsFunctions that I want to be shared across the whole application are stored in this directory I hope this article helped you let me know if you have another folder structure that you want me to look at I will be happy to try it out |

The Importance of programmers work life balance |
https://dev.to/rezaulkarim/the-importance-of-programmers-work-life-balance-4bhb
|
The Importance of programmers work life balanceIn this article Discuss about why programmers work life balance is critical to maintaining your mental health And preventing you from burning out So I think it s really important that programmers developers software and engineers Programmers work life You know anyone that s doing a lot of mentally strenuous work everyday Maintain healthy work life balance to prevent burning Now often in startup culture you see that they usually have a lot of younger employees who don t have families or have more time They can dedicate to working and being at the office and while that s fine when you re young and you have that kind of schedule and that availability If you want to know further Career and get ahead and maybe really rack up that experience early on And you want to spend hours at the office a day That s fine Why need work life balance But when you re older and you have a family is not realistic to maintain that And if you try to do that you ll eventually burn out It ll happen if you work too much you ll burn out and if right now you re self taught programmer and you re studying everyday and you re spending hours upon hours on your laptop doing tutorials and building projects and working on your resume working on your portfolio into Doing everything that you got to do to try to get that first job It can be really difficult and it can be really hard to maintain that So it s okay to take a break Although you want to code all the time and you want it and you want to try to code as much as you can until you get that first job You can and realistically you ll it s not good for you to try to do that all day every single day So you want to take those breaks when you have time Take breaks Get away from The get out Get some fresh air who do something that you enjoy doing that is not code related Your all your side projects don t have to be based around code Try To Maintain I know that in your software development career early on you feel that a lot of your extra curricular work needs to be code related And that s simply not true You might feel that you need to stay Cutting Edge and work with the latest tech If you re not working with the latest tech in your current role While that s fine don t focus on that stuff too much And maybe focus on it a little bit more when you re trying to look for a new job It doesn t have to be about code all the time And it s okay to take breaks You know work life balance may not mean much to you But it s definitely something you should think about We think about it when you re looking for a job and applying for jobs And really look into what kind of work life benefits do they offer and consider that Because you re going to be there for a few years and you re going to dedicate a bunch of time there and you don t want to You don t want to end up He s somewhere that you re not going to enjoy working and it doesn t offer you the kind of work life balance that you re looking for You know those things are important to you if having holidays off is important If having flexible schedules and flexible days if just being able to call in sick and not have to worry about it Important to you make sure that you look for that make sure that your You re checking all the time Is where you can get this information and I mean don t be scared to ask around online either post stuff on Reddit post questions Important Note Wherever you need to to find out about a company that you may be applying for And if work life balance is really important to you and it should be work life balance should be important to everyone You should make sure that the company you re applying for offers those things Or if you re applying right now and you don t have a job If you do have a job and you don t and you re not happy with the way that your work life balance is at that job Make sure to think about this the next the next job you look for you know my first job The programmer s work life balance wasn t terrible but it wasn t all that great I did take some work home with me more than I want to you Really never want to take any work home with you That just developed bad habits to have you end up burning out And working way more than you should just kind of think about Like what do you make an hour at out at one point is your hourly wage work that if you re making bucks an hour Because you re making a hundred grand a year Some Idea That s cool and all but if you re working hour days because you have that kind of company culture That Send you to work that much that s just a recipe for Burnout And really at the end of the day how much money are you really making an hour If you re working double the time that you should be seized And this also relates to if you re trying to learn how to code to remember You know many people circumstances are different when I was learning how to code My family was just getting started and I had that extra time and my schedule at work a lot Allowed me to work and study at the same time And I had enough time off and availability during my days off to be able to study and dedicate that much time But some people only have a few hours a day and and honestly just try to be as consistent as you can And if you start feeling like you re burning out think about if you re just spending too much time working you re learning how to code and you have A job and you have a family and you know you have to you have to learn how to code and you feel like it s just something that you have to do and you realize that you ve been doing it for a couple months and you re no longer having any fun and doing anything that brings you any Joy Thinking on work life balance You re just working and tending the things around the house and learning how to code You ve given up all your extracurricular activities and you ve given up Your hobbies because you re determined to learn how to code I kind of did that myself and it s not healthy It wasn t healthy for me and I got lucky that I did it burn out but you know Everyone s different you just make sure that you listen to to how you re feeling and play it by ear And remember that this is a Marathon not a Sprint you know you re going to be learning for a while and it s going to take you a while to get a job Final Thoughts Some people do get a job soon and quickly But a lot of people would take some a little longer So don t rush to get to the Finish Line because the thing is once you get there You re going to realize that your journey is just started and you re going to be learning all the time Every day And it s never going to end It s a good thing and I enjoy and if you re learning how to code and you ve already been doing it for a while You ve probably already got that personality that enjoys trying to figure out I m trying to work on stuff and try to solve problems and and that s good And use that to keep you going But realize when you re not having fun and you need a break because that s important too Read this article on my blog For more exciting tips and tricks please read our others articlesFind My page on Instagram stack content |

Master Binary in Five Minutes |
https://dev.to/valeriavg/master-binary-in-five-minutes-2lj5
|
Master Binary in Five MinutesBinary is the very core of everything digital not only in web development but literally everything from variables and file data to transport protocols and executables themselves Binary means that there are only two values you can operate yes and no Or on and off if you will Or and If you have one light bulb you could use it to signal to your friend across the street something you ve agreed on e g light on would mean that you re up for a party and off that you don t want to be disturbed today The possibilities grow with the amount of light bulbs you have With a bunch you can encode any number or any letter and join them into phrases Of course computers don t really have a couple of bulbs In fact the laptop I m using to write this article has Gb of operational memory That means that I can operate a billion cells long stack of data This tiny cell that can be either or is called a bit Binary number systemWe normally count in the decimal number system This means that we can use and if we need to describe a number higher than that we add more digits etc Now if we limit ourselves to just two digits and and follow the same principle we will get etc This is the binary number system I ll not dive into the conversion between systems but in JavaScript you could do it with try in node repl just node or your browser consoleb toString You don t really need to convert anything apart from debugging and very rare cases b it s just a entered in a different way behind the curtains everything that your program operates is in binary form Binary logicBinary operations are limited to and or and xor exclusive or for two operands and unary shift and not operations Bitwise operations are performed on every single pair The rules are quite simple bitwise and only if both values are amp amp amp b amp b b bitwise or if any value is b b b bitwise xor same as or except both will produce b b b These operations are essential because all the digital math is done using them And in their raw form they can be used to manage boolean flags among other things hot smart funny let person b make them hotperson b b make them smartperson b b make them funnyperson b b are they hot Boolean person amp b true are they smart Boolean person amp b true are they funny Boolean person amp b trueKeep in mind that unary not operation may produce unexpected results on JavaScript numbers bitwise not flip values turn to and to b you d correctly expect b or but you ll get b This happens because JavaScript stores numbers as doubles a bit representation with one bit in particular being the sign bit So when we flip what we imagine to be a we are actually flipping a digit long binary and end up flipping the sign bit as well To get rid of some unwanted bits like the sign bit for instance we can use shift operation left shift throws X digits off the left edge adding X zeros on the rightb lt lt b right shift throws X digits off the right edge adding X zeros on the leftb gt gt b unsigned right shift same as right shift but always turns sign bit to making result always positive gt gt gt gt gt gt gt gt Octals amp HexSo far we have only been using bitwise logic to operate numbers but even they are quite lengthy in JavaScript as we found out To simplify things the bits are grouped into bit long bytes b o xA The last two lines in the example above show representation of the same decimal number in based number system octal and based number system hexadecimal Those two are just a short way of recording binary data and if you ever need to you can convert to these systems the same way we did with the binary toString toString a Binary dataOf course numbers are not the only thing you can store To store strings for example we could assign each letter to a number Different agreements on how letters translate to numbers are called encoding or charset Take a look at this example const hello new UintArray x x xc xc xf x UintArray new TextDecoder utf decode hello Hello In JavaScript a raw chunk of binary data can be stored in UintArray As the name suggest it s and array of bit unsigned values However it s not the most conventional abstraction if you need to get data in certain positions and intervals But that s when DataView and ArrayBuffer and additionally Buffer in node come in Create empty buffer with bytesconst buffer new ArrayBuffer Create buffer viewconst view new DataView buffer Record some dataview setUint Hview setUint eview setUint lview setUint lview setUint onew TextDecoder utf decode buffer Hello u or Hello x in nodeDataView has many other useful functions e g getInt or even setBigInt allowing you to write and read longer values than just one byte and assign them to a proper type Ability to slice and dice raw binary data comes in handy when you need to implement a protocol TCP SMTP FTP etc or coder decoder for a specific file format to name a few Let s take a look on a real world example In particular on this post cover image data Open browser console on this pageconst img document querySelector header img Get datalet buffer fetch img src then r gt r arrayBuffer then b gt buffer b console log buffer ArrayBuffer new TextDecoder ascii decode buffer slice RIFF new TextDecoder ascii decode buffer slice WEBP We got the exact valuesWebP specification describes But we did skip some data between RIFF and WEBP can you read file size there with DataView Hint order in which we read binary numbers bytes is specified by endianness and little endian means that the closer to the end the smaller the address number i e right to left Here s an example bit integer in little endian bit integer in big endianconst littleEndian new DataView new UintArray xxxx buffer littleEndian getUint true littleEndian true const bigEndian new DataView new UintArray xxxx buffer bigEndian getUint littleEndian false Congratulations on making it to the end I hope you won t feel intimidated by binary protocols or formats anymore Have any ideas for a new project yet Share in the comments Photo by Alexander Sinn on Unsplash |

The 6 R's Of Cloud Migration |
https://dev.to/awscommunity-asean/the-6-r-s-of-cloud-migration-2p17
|
The R x s Of Cloud MigrationNowadays a lot of companies are investing towards the migration of their on premises applications towards the cloud In this article we will learn about the R that will guide your cloud migration journey The R s Of Cloud Migration are set of strategies for migrating things into the cloud by understanding the pros and cons of each you ll be able to plan on what R is appropriate for your application Re hostAlso known as lift and shift Migrate your application as is This is the easiest path to get your on premises application migrated to the cloud Using this strategy you copy your application infrastructure to your cloud provider You can use tools such as AWS Cloud Endure and VM Import Export to automate this strategy ProsReduced management overhead as your cloud provider will managed the physical infrastructure on where your application be hosted also known as Infrastructure as a Service IAAS Easier to optimize when your application is deployed in your cloud provider it can now easily transformed to fully adopt the benefits of the cloud Still offers cost savings as your physical infrastructure is managed ConsNot taking the full advantage of the cloud It can delay things that you could do better When to choose this strategy This fits well if you want to migrate your application without the need of code or infrastructure changes just implement the same thing you did on premises and if you re new in the cloud and want try things out Re platformAlso known as lift tinker and shift Has similarities with Re hosting but it gradually take the advantage of the cloud offerings without having to change the core infrastructure of your application Take this strategy as a safe point for your application It s moving your database from Infrastructure as a Service to a Database as a Service ProsReduced management overhead better than rehosting Increased resiliency Reduced cost ConsNo real negatives as you only allow your cloud service provider to manage more parts of your infrastructure ExamplesProvisioning Amazon Relational Database Service instead of managed database instance in Elastic Compute Cloud When to choose this strategy This suits your application migration if you want to gradually adapt on cloud functionalities such as auto scaling managed services etc without committing to a large migration effort and by doing these you can achieve benefits than rehosting can offer Re factor or Re architectReview the architecture of an application and adopt to a cloud native architectures and products such as Service Oriented or MicroservicesServerless Architecture Event Driven ArchitectureThis strategy is offers the best long term benefits but comes with stiff price and time consuming process ProsTakes the full advantages of using the cloud Produce a much more scalable better high availability and fault tolerant infrastructureCost is aligned according the usage Pay as you use model ConsInitially it is expensive and time consuming When to choose this strategy This strategy is for those who really knows what are the full advantages of using cloud and make the most out of it This will require you to drastically modify your application core infrastructure to be suited base on the cloud native model although this entails a lot of work this strategy will produce more value to your business in the long run Re purchaseMove from managing installed applications on premise and consume a Software as a Service SaaS model Many of the common applications nowadays are available and offered as a SaaS ExampleMove from a Customer Relationship Management CRM to Salesforce com from Microsoft Exchange to Microsoft an HR system to Workday or a content management system CMS to Drupal When to choose this strategy This is for the applications that already exist with SaaS offerings that you can subscribe base on your needs RetireIn other words If you don t need the application switch it off Remove the applications that are no longer needed applications that are no longer produce value to you or your business These applications are often running for no reason ProsOften provides cost savings When to choose this strategy You ll know after your initial cloud migration assessment and base on the data you gathered Does this application benefit me RetainAlso known as re visit or do nothing for now Commonly applications fall on this criteria are Old application that has some usage but not worth the move Complex application that need to leave till later Super important application and it s to risky When to choose this strategy This strategy is used when most of the applications were deployed and working properly in the cloud you ll look back and start to plan the migration for the application that falls in this category Using these R s you ll be able to produce a table that contains your on premises application together with the R that fits it This detailed assessment per application will serve as your guidebook when it s time to migrate to the cloud You can reach me at Dev toTwitter |
