海外TECH	DEV Community	☘️ Random configuration tips for Google Cloud SQL	https://dev.to/hunghvu/random-configuration-tips-for-google-cloud-sql-2lg4	️Random configuration tips for Google Cloud SQLHere are my two cents after trying out Google Cloud SQL so the information is purely from a newcomer perspective Any correction to the errors is welcome Allow only connection to Cloud SQL instance via private IP in production and disable public IP unless you have a good reason not to This sounds kinda obvious to me but I ve seen many tutorials only show public IP connection Depending on your backend hosting choice private IP connection configuration might differ For example I use Serverless VPC Access to connect App Engine to Cloud SQL instance If public IP is disabled you cannot connect to Cloud SQL instance from home or use Google Cloud terminal in the dashboard even with Cloud SQL Auth proxy Do not disable public IP if you re playing around using the terminal Otherwise Cloud SQL Auth proxy should be used to create a secure connection to a public Cloud SQL IP Always allow only SSL connection to Cloud SQL instance even if the connection is restricted to only private IP You can never know if someone gains access to your infrastructure and sniff the traffic If you used ORM to create a database locally you can dump to a SQL file using universal tool such as DBeaver or database specific like pgAdmin Before importing the SQL file to your Cloud SQL instance remember to change all table owners to cloudsqlsuperuser Additional change to backend codebase is required even if it is hosted on App Engine connect to Cloud SQL via Serverless VPC AccesS That sounds confusing because from Google official documentation SSL TLS provides security when connecting to Cloud SQL SSL TLS is automatically provided when using The Cloud SQL Auth proxy The Java Socket Library The built in mechanisms in the App Engine environments In these situations self managed SSL TLS certificates are not required In the end in TypeORM config I need to use a Unix socket connection extra socketPath cloudsql project region instance entities dist entity ts js Make sure to enable Cloud SQL Admin API or else you will face the error message CloudSQL warning your action is needed to update your application and avoid potential disruptions ensure that the account has access to lt socketPath above gt Error Cloud SQL Admin API has not been used in project The below were some errors I faced before reaching a solution Using ssl rejectUnauthorized FATAL pg hba conf rejects connection for host user database no encryptionUsing SSL certificates in the codebase downloaded from Cloud SQL Error Error ERR TLS CERT ALTNAME INVALID Hostname IP does not match certificate s altnames Host localhost is not cert s CN Error Error unable to verify the first certificateManually add Cloud SQL SSL certificates to App Engine Invalid certificate CertificateRawData must contain a PEM encoded x public key certificate with header and footer included and an unencrypted PEM encoded RSA private key with header and footer included and with size at most bits The requested private key and public certificate must match	2022-02-26 01:15:46
