海外TECH DEV Community How Startups Metrics Can Help You Measure Your Startup Progress? https://dev.to/artonweb1/how-startups-metrics-can-help-you-measure-your-startup-progress-254a How Startups Metrics Can Help You Measure Your Startup Progress It is very important for startups to perform in order to gain the trust of these funding sources if they aim to achieve success in their respective fields The best way to achieve such accomplishment for these new ventures is by monitoring their startup metrics Keeping an eye over these startup metrics will help you ward away too many distractions and allow you to focus on specific goals without any pressure Metrics helps in measuring the overall progress irrespective of the platform Monitoring your startup progress will let you determine if your venture is on a positive path of growth or failing in the process So if you are a startup owner then I would strictly recommend you to follow these startup metrics if you wish to take your startup to a next level Lets take a look at the startup metrics one by one Customer Acquisition Customers are definitely the key to measure the success rate of your business However in the startup industry there are multiple sources and platform from where you could acquire customers effectively In order to acquire more customers on daily or monthly basis you must monitor the previous customer acquisition flow You must accumulate the data by sorting your customers into source platform and device This data would help you to determine the right focus zone to attract more customers in the future Customer acquisition is definitely the most important startup metric as it helps in growing your business smartly Churn Rate In the current world of Mobile App based startups or any other desktop or web based applications the startup metric defining the churn rate is highly important Many startups boast about its user growth and deem that as a success factor Although true to some extent just having a large user base is not enough if these users leave or unsubscribe almost in a span of a few months or let s say after an annual subscription The churn rate is quite decisive to measure the success of a startup as it defines whether the users are loving the product service or not Lifetime Value of a Customer Although there are millions of users active on Google and Facebook these are not their real customers Among these users the ones who buy ads or subscribe to their premium services are the real customers Hence these giant companies often keep a track on the LTA i e Lifetime Value of a Customer as this is one such metric that would let you understand how many customers you require or need every month to get your startup on a growth track Many startups estimate such data as they don t have enough numbers to play with Hence even as an estimation such data can be very important to set the right goals from the beginning Revenue Metrics A startup operates basically to generate revenue However never treat your startup as a machine that simply produces money even though it s a hot favorite among your customer base To run a startup as a long term business venture you must understand the different streams as well as different factors responsible to generate good revenue These factors and streams comprise together as revenue metrics Following these metrics you can identify the processes that requires prioritization while you can always ignore or either remove the ones that do not This way you can also understand the user trends and determine the type of services products they are willing to pay for There are users who may like to subscribe the product service at a feasible monthly or yearly rate while others may spend extra to get the lifetime membership Revenue metrics would help you understand these intents of the users and help you focus on the most favored subscription options Quality The quality of a startup is not limited to the user friendliness of its product or service alone Instead of merely depending upon the developers or designers for monitoring the bugs or crashes you can always allow the users to submit such reports when they experience any crashes or find any bugs while using the App Such data would help you improve the quality of your product or service to the highest level Salesman Metrics Almost every startup around the world has a sales team in place in order to generate sales leads or referrals for the startup venture Monitoring the salesman metrics can help you sort the best performers from the non performers in the team Most importantly you can always train the new sales team using these metrics that would give a rough idea on number of calls per day recommended call length etc You can always record these sales calls and pick some conversations in order to train your team during meetings or training sessions Salesman metrics would also help you decide whether you need to extend or reduce the sales team for the future Conclusion The startup metrics discussed above are the basics that every startup must follow in order to achieve success in their respective industry as well as staying one step ahead of the competition However the prioritization of these metrics may vary depending on the type of the industry your startup belongs to So if you re not already monitoring these startup metrics then its time to hold a meeting with your core team and set up measures to assess these metrics as soon as possible Any metric you miss from the above from now is the opportunity missed improving your startup venture Go ahead Start measuring your startup now Yiannis is the planning manager of Art On Web Art On Web focuses on responsive website design with Joomla technical support of 海外TECH DEV Community Speed up your Code!!! https://dev.to/skazi019/speed-up-your-code-39de Speed up your Code One of the methods to speed up your applications could be to implement Caching Caching not only speeds up the response time for the users but it also reduces the resourse usage on the system making them efficient But what is caching In simple terms Caching means storing frequently demanded things closer to those asking for itLet s take a look at a simple analogy very beautifully depicted in this youtube video about caching Suppose you want to write an article about a certain topic and want to access books from the library for the content Now you could go to the library every time you want to look at some piece of information from the books but that would be a very expensive operation Travelling from your home to the library searching for the book noting down the content travelling back to your home and repeating this whole process again and again What you can do however is that you can borrow these books from the library and take them home with you So now everytime you need to lookup some content from the books they are right there within an arm s reach at your house In this analogy the library sort of acts as a hard drive which has a lot of contents books saved in it but accessing it frequently would be rather expensive And your house acts like a cache where you have only the books you ll need to look up frequently for information and accessing which is relatively cheap Python comes with a built in module called functools which contains higher order functions which either take other functions as arguments or return other functions The functools module also contains some higher order functions like lru cache for caching which we ll take a look later in the article For now let s try to implement a simple cache all by ourselves in python Save the below code in a py file and try executing it Let s see what output do we get import requestscache dict def get article from server url print Fetching article from server response requests get url return response textdef get article url print Getting article if url not in cache cache url get article from server url return cache url get article get article get article get article When we run the above code we get the below output See how Fetching article from server is printed only one time and that is the first time That s because once we have fetched the article we are saving it in the cache we created before sending it as a response in the function get article Hence for the subsequent calls to the same article we don t have to fetch it from the server internet we can just read the contents we saved in cache earlier and return the result But we can t just build a cache from scratch everytime we need to use it The cache we implemented above was relatively simple but what if we need more complex caching mechanisms Thankfully python comes with some built in functions decorators that will help us do just that Let s take the problem of calculating factorial of a number Below is what a simple code to calculate factorial will look like def factorial n return n factorial n if n else But the problem with this code is that for each new value of n it will re calculate the values What do I mean by that is that if i calculate the factorial of then i get as the output which was calculated by xxxxxxBut now if I calculate factorial of it will re calculate xxxx which it had already calculated earlier while calculating factorial of These calculations can be stored in the cache and retreived without having to re calculate again thereby saving computing resource and time making the overall system efficient Let s now modify the code to use cache instead from functools import cache cachedef factorial n return n factorial n if n else If we call factorial the function will make recursive calls since the cache is empty But if we call factorial after this the code won t do any calculations at all it will just look up the value in the cache and return it And if we call factorial the code will only make two recursive calls for and since the values up to were already stored in the cache Great now we know how we can create a cache and apply it to a function which does some expensive operations so that we can speed up our code and make it more computationally efficient Let s take a little detour and revisit the library example You kept researching topics one after the other and as a result have bought home more books that you can keep In terms of caching what has happened here is that your cache has grown indefinitely The purpose of cache is to be small and only store some of the data that is being frequently accessed by the users having your cache grow as big as your hard disk defeats it s purpose as it will be significantly expensive to maintain this cache So what we need now is a mechanism or policy that would remove content information from the cache which has lost it s relevance and is not accessed as frequently anymore That is we need some policy that would help us off load some of the books stored in our house back to the library This is where cache eviction policies come in Cache Eviction PoliciesThere are many such strategies defined that will clear out your cache and maintain it s size keeping it from growing indefinitely let s look at a brief of some of those policies First In First Out FIFO The entires that gets added to the cache first gets deleted first That is it evicts the oldest entries Last In First Out LIFO The entires that gets added to the cache last or the newest entries gets deleted first That is it evicts the newest entries Least Recently Used LRU The entries that haven t been used in a long time gets evicted from the cache Most Recently Used MRU The entry that was used most recently gets evicted from the cache Least Frequently Used LFU The entries that don t get accessed too often gets evicted from the cache Let s take a look at the working of LRU in a bit of detail When you implement a cache with LRU strategy it organises it s items in the way they are being used by the users Everytime you access an entry in the cache the LRU algorithm will move this entry to the top most recently used of the cache Now when the algorithm looks at the cache it knows that the entries at the bottom are stale and not being used by the users anymore hence it can be safely removed from the cache to make way for newer entries Take a look at the below image Here when the user fetches article the cache stores the article as most recent then serves it to the user Now when the user request another article The cache assigns the article as most recent and pushes the article down the list In this way the LRU strategy identifies which entries need to be evicted from the cache so that the size of the cache can be managed Let s try implementing LRU strategy with the example of calculating fibonacci numbersBelow is what a simple code to calculate fibonacci numbers would look likedef fibonacci n if n lt return n return fibonacci n fibonacci n Since this is a recursive function for a large value of n this function would become computationally heavy Let s implement a cache on this function with LRU strategy from functools import lru cache lru cache maxsize def fibonacci n if n lt return n return fibonacci n fibonacci n Similar to what we saw earlier we can use the lru cache decorator from functools built in library to implement cache with the LRU eviction strategy Here maxsize parameter defines the maximum size the cache can grow to Now if we call this function and get it s cache info we would get the output something like this Here hits the number of call that were returned from the cachemisses the number of calls that didn t exist in the cache and had to be calculatedmaxsize the maximum size of the cache Since we defined out maxsize to be it shows the same in the outputcurrsize the current size of the cache Here we can see the cache is full To sum upcaching not only reduces the computing resource on your system but also makes your code run faster Implementing caching in your code can drastically improve the user experience by giving the quick and optimal results Sources 2022-04-05 05:21:26

海外TECH DEV Community Swift - Error Handling, Assertions and PreConditions https://dev.to/naveenragul/swift-error-handling-29b4 Swift Error Handling Assertions and PreConditionsError handling can be used to respond to error conditions your program may encounter during execution A function indicates that it can throw an error by including the throws keyword in its declaration When you call a function that can throw an error you prepend the try keyword to the expression Swift automatically propagates errors out of their current scope until they re handled by a catch clause A do statement creates a new containing scope which allows errors to be propagated to one or more catch clauses syntax do try canThrowAnError no error was thrown catch an error was thrown Errors are represented by values of types that conform to the Error protocol This empty protocol indicates that a type can be used for error handling Enumerations are well suited to modelling a group of related error conditions with associated values allowing for additional information about the nature of an error to be communicated throw statement can be used to throw an error example enum VendingMachineError Error case invalidSelection case insufficientFunds coinsNeeded Int case outOfStock throw VendingMachineError insufficientFunds coinsNeeded Handling ErrorsThere are four ways to handle errors in Swift Propagate the error from a function to the code that calls that function Handle the error using a do catch statement Handle the error as an optional value Assert that the error will not occur Propagating Errors Using Throwing FunctionsThrowing function method initializer should be marked with throws Only throwing functions can propagate errors Any errors thrown inside a nonthrowing function must be handled inside the function example struct Item var price Int var count Int class VendingMachine var inventory Candy Bar Item price count Chips Item price count Pretzels Item price count var coinsDeposited func vend itemNamed name String throws guard let item inventory name else throw VendingMachineError invalidSelection guard item count gt else throw VendingMachineError outOfStock guard item price lt coinsDeposited else throw VendingMachineError insufficientFunds coinsNeeded item price coinsDeposited coinsDeposited item price var newItem item newItem count inventory name newItem print Dispensing name vend itemNamed method propagates any errors it throws any code that calls this method must either handle the errorsーusing a do catch statement try or try ーor continue to propagate them Handling Errors Using Do Catchdo catch statement can be used to handle errors by executing a block of code If an error is thrown by the code in the do clause it s matched against the catch clauses to determine which one of them can handle the error example var vendingMachine VendingMachine vendingMachine coinsDeposited do try buyFavoriteSnack person Alice vendingMachine vendingMachine print Success Yum catch VendingMachineError invalidSelection print Invalid Selection catch VendingMachineError outOfStock print Out of Stock catch VendingMachineError insufficientFunds let coinsNeeded print Insufficient funds Please insert an additional coinsNeeded coins catch print Unexpected error error If none of the catch clauses handle the error the error propagates to the surrounding scope However the propagated error must be handled by some surrounding scope In a nonthrowing function an enclosing do catch statement must handle the error In a throwing function either an enclosing do catch statement or the caller must handle the error If the error propagates to the top level scope without being handled you ll get a runtime error example func nourish with item String throws do try vendingMachine vend itemNamed item catch is VendingMachineError print Couldn t buy that from the vending machine do try nourish with Beet Flavored Chips catch print Unexpected non vending machine related error error Converting Errors to Optional Valuestry can be used to handle an error by converting it to an optional value If an error is thrown while evaluating the try expression the value of the expression is nil example func someThrowingFunction throws gt Int let x try someThrowingFunction Disabling Error PropagationIf you are sure that a throwing function or method won t throw an error at runtime then write try before the expression to disable error propagation If an error actually is thrown you ll get a runtime error example let photo try loadImage atPath Resources John Appleseed jpg Specifying Cleanup ActionsUse a defer statement to execute a set of statements just before code execution leaves the current block of code This statement lets you do any necessary cleanup that should be performed regardless of how execution leaves the current block of codeーwhether it leaves because an error was thrown or because of a statement such as return or break The deferred statements may not contain transfer control statements such as a break or a return statement or by throwing an error Deferred actions are executed in the reverse of the order that they re written in your source code That is the code in the first defer statement executes last the code in the second defer statement executes second to last and so on example func processFile filename String throws if exists filename let file open filename defer close file while let line try file readline Work with the file Assertions and PreconditionsAssertions and preconditions are checks that happen at runtime You use them to make sure an essential condition is satisfied before executing any further code If the Boolean condition in the assertion or precondition evaluates to true code execution continues as usual If the condition evaluates to false the current state of the program is invalid code execution ends and your app is terminated assertions and preconditions aren t used for recoverable or expected errors Because a failed assertion or precondition indicates an invalid program state there s no way to catch a failed assertion They are used to Stop the execution as soon as an invalid state is detected also helps to limit the damage caused by that invalid state Assertions are checked only in debug builds but preconditions are checked in both debug and production builds Assertions help you find mistakes and incorrect assumptions during development and preconditions help you detect issues in production example let age assert age gt A person s age can t be less than zero orif age gt print You can ride the roller coaster or the ferris wheel else if age gt print You can ride the ferris wheel else assertionFailure A person s age can t be less than zero precondition index gt Index must be greater than zero 2022-04-05 05:15:17

海外TECH DEV Community Going Global with a Headless CMS Multi-Language Site https://dev.to/coredna/going-global-with-a-headless-cms-multi-language-site-2939 Going Global with a Headless CMS Multi Language SiteIn the world of digital marketing there is no denying the importance of having a multilingual site This is especially true for eCommerce businesses that want to expand their reach and visibility to new markets Not only will a multilingual site help you with internationalization and expanding the audience you market to but it will also help you earn new customers A multilingual site delivers a far more personalized experience to the end visitor if it s presented in a language that is native to them A headless CMS content management system has the ability to make multilingual content creation and management more straightforward than when using traditional platforms A headless CMS is a software user interface that supports content authoring instead of attaching it to a specific output such as web page rendering Instead it delivers content as data through an API A CMS makes multilingual content creation easier by providing the administrators with much more flexibility and integration with other systems and services If you want to learn more about headless CMS localization and creating multi language sites read on In a rush Check out what we will cover directly How to choose the right CMS for a multilingual business modelHow does a headless CMS enhance a multilingual environmentHow to support multiple languagesMultilingual content administrationSummary Important take awaysHow to choose the right CMS for a multilingual business modelOnce you ve determined that a global approach is the best course of action for your company you ll need a content management system that can accommodate your content in several languages How do you pick the most suitable multilingual headless CMS Depending on the kinds of content you have the platforms you re leveraging and the languages you wish to start localizing in you ll want to keep these tips in mind If your business is commerce based the CMS needs to have the ability to handle multiple currencies You should be able to tell which material has been translated and which has not and you should be able to direct users to the translated content they need With complete Unicode support the CMS can display edit and modify any language properly Customer view of one Uberall s Multilanguage page French Homepage Determine how content is handled in the CMS Is it separate or is it linked by language Your localization ready CMS should not just duplicate content and translate it Instead it should allow you to customize content for each folder so it can be genuinely localized and altered for any market language or region The CMS should have the appropriate content architecture to correctly process information while also being organized in a manner that can be readily maintained The CMS should already have multilingual support embedded into the admin features It shouldn t require developers to build ad hoc multilingual content types as a hack or require third party plugins to deliver the appropriate content The API constructs should already have provisioning for language in their features It should be constructed so that you and your translation partner can simply pull and push online material through an API connection or CMS connector without copying and pasting or exporting and importing source and translated content How does a headless CMS enhance a multilingual environmentA headless CMS provides flexibility to structure the taxonomy of the content in such a way the multiple languages can be incorporated seamlessly and without trouble It gives you the ability to structure the content for translations The workflows built into a headless CMS enable you to process content or use external systems and services to process the content into the various languages giving you the ability to share information easily in any language Hybrid platforms also provide built in user administration in two places that simplify translation and multilingual content processing How to support multiple languagesThe key to supporting multiple languages is built in support from the platform itself You can produce and distribute content for a single locale s audience with a localization ready CMS This helps your company become genuinely global While proper translation is crucial a localization ready CMS is critical due to the wide range of cultural and language variances In addition a localization ready CMS ensures that language is dealt with appropriately and doesn t interfere with the content layout or content delivery There must be support within the admin to recognize that the headless APIs can return information in a different language The translation will happen either through the API process or through workflows Workflows within a headless CMS can drive content quality with staging sites and testing Check out points and from the rest of our blog here 2022-04-05 05:01:46
