Use Unicode characters for bullet points in CSS using ::marker |
https://dev.to/cassidoo/use-unicode-characters-for-bullet-points-in-css-using-marker-3bnj
|
Use Unicode characters for bullet points in CSS using markerI was playing around with making some lt ul gt s on an HTML page recently and typically when I want to replace the bullet points with an emoji or an SVG or something I ll write something like ul list style type none ul li before content And this works but for longer lines of text you get some spacing issues You can fix it by changing the padding around the list and messing with the positioning but that s a lot of trial and error Enter the marker psuedo selector This is a really cool relatively new option to solve our problem It selects the marker box of a list item so the bullet or a number if you re using ol and you can change the font properties the color and some other things around it Demo It s not fully compatible with Internet Explorer and some other older versions of modern browsers You can check the compatibility table here and the documentation for it here |

A French IA win against eight world champion of bridge |
https://dev.to/tykok/a-french-ia-win-against-eight-world-champion-of-bridge-2akp
|
A French IA win against eight world champion of bridge What is the Bridge The bridge it s a card game cards played with four people in a team of two against two It s a game based on the communication because we play at two and it s a game need a strategic reflexion and it s a random game Why this is a real advanceIt s a real advance in IA because of the particular difficulty to play in this game Indeed this game it s a random game played with partial information for each players With this game the IA makes many choices without knowing the cards of other players So we can say the bridge as a really hard game modelled on the real life In real life we make sometimes choices without knowing the result or the consequences of these choices It s a really different IA of AlphaGo Go and Deep blue Chess Because unlike of the bridge in Chess and Go all information is observable and available for the IA AlphaGo IA reportage Who created this IA That AI is called Nuke and it was founded by a French start up named Nukkai This start up was created to make many searches on IA An for Veronique Ventos the founder of Nukkai the bridge was a really good game to explore the potential of IA So this IA was created to explore the many possibilities of IA and try to make a new challenge How Nuke globally work Nuke was trained with the simulation of Monte Carlo This simulation is named Monte Carlo Monaco place because of many randomnes games That s not all Nuke it s not a black box for human Indeed he makes decisions and explain all of human in many different levels of comprehension This makes a real difference because here we gonna understand exactly how the IA works unlike of AlphaGo for example who win but we don t know how exactly how he win The redifusion of Nukkai challenge A particular thanks to Siècle digital and Monde numérique who giving me information about this news And you What do you think about this news |

Create Splash Screen And Launch Icon In Flutter |
https://dev.to/kcl/create-splash-screen-and-launch-icon-in-flutter-1kdg
|
Create Splash Screen And Launch Icon In FlutterCreate a Splash Screen as well as a Launch Icon for the app IntroHello and welcome to the first part of the Flutter App Development Tutorial Series This is Nibesh From Khadka s Coding Lounge If you haven t already please go to the introduction page to find every detail about this tutorial blog series Getting StartedHere s a user screen flow image of the first things a user goes through on app launch We ll start in the order of user screen flow Hence in this section we ll set the launch icon as well as a splash screen for our application Now let s get started by creating our application On your terminal I am using the Desktop Directorycd Desktop Create a Flutter projectflutter create astha Go to the folder and open the folder on VS Code cd asthacode AssetsAll the project images will be stored in the assets folder in the root directory and further into their own relevant sub directories So let s create a folder for images to store In your project root for instance home lt user gt Desktop asthamkdir assets assets splashYou can use the image of your choice or download the following images to use I made them on canva Splash Screen Om SplashApp Launch Icon Om and Lotus Splash ImageI resized these images at imageresizer to achieve different sizes as mentioned in the native splash package Make sure to download them inside assets splash After that to use these images we ll need to add them to the pubspec file so In pubsec yaml file you ll find the assets section commented just uncomment it or replace it with the following To add assets to your application add an assets section like this The outer assets not folder name but a variable that tells flutter SDK where to look for assets into assets Splash Screens assets splash om splash png assets splash om lotus splash png assets splash om lotus splash x pngRemember any image sources you ll use from local storage needs to be registered in pubspec yaml file as above PackagesFor the launch icon we ll use flutter launcher icons For our splash screen we ll use flutter native splash If you re gonna use the version I m using then just paste it inside pubspec yaml Installation On dependencies sectiondependencies flutter sdk flutter flutter native splash On dev dependencies sectiondev dependencies flutter test sdk flutter flutter launcher icons Do mind the indentation and also make sure to visit each package s page and follow the readme instructions for the setup if anything s changed Note Please remember that the settings will only work up to Android as intended From Android the splash screen will only show up on launch from emulator icon tap but not on app run from VS Code Another thing to remember is that the splash screen will be clipped as a round image in the center I tried to change the window background but failed nonetheless Set UpNow that we ve added the packages we re gonna need to provide a few additional settings So again in pubspec yaml file Just add these towards the end Launch icon settingsflutter icons android true ios true image path assets splash om splash png adaptive icon background FFDA adaptive icon foreground assets splash om splash png Splash Screen Settingsflutter native splash general background image assets splash om lotus splash png android image assets splash om lotus splash x png icon background color FFDA Now save the file and go to the VS Code terminal and run these commands For splash screenflutter pub run flutter native splash create For launch iconflutter pub run flutter launcher icons main Possible ErrorWhile running the second command I encountered an error it turns out to be an SDK version s incompatibility issue Hence on android gt app gt build gradle find and change Compiled Minimum and Target SDK versions Only change these values don t delete anything else android compileSdkVersion defaultConfig applicationId com example astha minSdkVersion targetSdkVersion After this save the file and in your terminal run the following command again For launch iconflutter pub run flutter launcher icons main Home PageIn upcoming blogs of the series we ll create onboard and lock our app for only registered users But for now to test our launcher icon and splash screen let s create a simple home screen though it s not necessary On main dart file import package flutter material dart import package flutter services dart void main async concrete binding for applications based on the Widgets framewor WidgetsFlutterBinding ensureInitialized SystemChrome setSystemUIOverlayStyle SystemUiOverlayStyle dark copyWith statusBarColor Colors black Firebase initalize runApp const Home class Home extends StatefulWidget const Home Key key super key key override State lt Home gt createState gt HomeState class HomeState extends State lt Home gt override Widget build BuildContext context return const MaterialApp home Scaffold body Center child Text Home Page Check out this short clip on what we did so far SummaryAlright with this the first part of the Flutter App Development series is completed We implemented Launch Icon in android with the flutter launcher icons package We also implemented a splash screen for our app with the flutter native splash package We are also working on some expected breakage for Android Show SupportIn the upcoming blog we ll first create an onboard experience for the user If you want to know more about the series and expectations check out the series introduction page If you ve any questions please feel free to comment Please do like and share the article with your friends Thank you for your time and please keep on supporting us Don t forget to follow to be notified immediately after the upload This is Nibesh from Khadka s Web Components 101: History |
https://dev.to/this-is-learning/web-components-101-history-2p24
|
Web Components HistoryWeb components enjoy large scale usage today From YouTube to GitHub and many other major organizations it s safe to say they ve made their way into commonplace frontend development practices That wasn t always the case After all web components had to start somewhere And web development can be particularly picky with what succeeds and what doesn t So then how did web components succeed What was their path to broad adoption And what are the origins behind the APIs used for modern web components Let s walk through a short history of web components and the related ecosystem to answer these questions The Early Days of MVC in JSWhile the concept of “Model View Controller also commonly called MVC has been around for some time in JavaScript itself it failed to take hold early on However in there was an explosion around MVC and it s related cousin Model View View Controller MVVC This explosion came courtesy of a slew of new frameworks that launched only a few months apart from one another Knockout was one of the first to introduce strict MVC patterns inside of JavaScript in July Knockout supported observable based UI binding Here you could declare a Model and bind data from said model directly to your HTML lt Demo of KnockoutJS gt lt table class mails data bind with chosenFolderData gt lt thead gt lt tr gt lt th gt Subject lt th gt lt tr gt lt thead gt lt tbody data bind foreach mails gt lt tr gt lt td data bind text subject gt lt td gt lt tr gt lt tbody gt lt table gt lt script gt function WebmailViewModel Data var self this self chosenFolderData ko observable get mail folder Inbox self chosenFolderData ko applyBindings new WebmailViewModel lt script gt While this works great for UI binding it lacks the componentization aspect we ve come to expect from modern frameworks This was improved in the ecosystem when Backbone saw its first release in October It introduced a View similar to what we might expect a component to be like today var DocumentRow Backbone View extend tagName li className document row events click icon open click button edit openEditDialog click button delete destroy initialize function this listenTo this model change this render render function Here we can see that we can now bind events classes and more to a single tag This aligns better with the types of components we d see in say React or Lit But that s not all we saw in October that year We also saw the initial release of Angular js only days after Backbone s release Here we can see that it introduced a concept of controllers into the document similar to the Models of Knockout It allowed two way bindings from UI to data and back lt div ng controller TodoListController as todoList gt lt ul gt lt li ng repeat todo in todoList todos gt todo text lt li gt lt ul gt lt form ng submit todoList addTodo gt lt input type text ng model todoList todoText gt lt input class btn primary type submit value add gt lt form gt lt div gt lt script gt angular module todoApp controller TodoListController function var todoList this todoList todos text learn AngularJS text build an AngularJS app todoList addTodo function todoList todos push text todoList todoText todoList todoText lt script gt While Angular was the last of the three mentioned here it had a huge impact It was the first time Google released a JavaScript based MVC based library into the wild Not only did they build the library they used it to build Google s Feedback tool which powers almost all of Google s products today This represented a shift from their prior Java based “Google Web Toolkit GWT that was widely used before Later with the acquisition of DoubleClick the team that was working on the migration of the DoubleClick platform for Google decided to use Angular js as well A Glimmer in WC Standard s EyeWith Angular js continuing to grow within Google it s no surprise that they continued researching in JavaScript HTML bindings On this topic Alex Russel then a Senior Staff Engineer at Google working on the web platform team gave a talk at the Fronteers conference In this talk he introduces a host of libraries that allow building custom elements with experimental new APIs lt script gt class Comment extends HTMLElement constructor attrs super attrs this textContent attrs text lorem this shadow new ShadowRoot this this buildUI buildUI HTMLElement register x comment Comment var c new Comment Howdy pardner document body appendChild c lt script gt lt x comment gt lt x comment gt Here he utilized the TraceUR compiler a precursor to Babel to add classes remember class wouldn t land in JavaScript stable until ES in to build a new “custom element This combined with their new MDV library in order to create a similar development environment to what we have in browser APIs today It s important to note that at this stage nothing was formalized inside of a specification It was all experimental libraries acting as playgrounds for APIs That would change soon after Things Start Heating UpIn early the Google team created a Working Draft of a specification for Custom Elements Alongside similar working drafts for Shadow DOM APIs they were colloquially called “Custom Elements v With Google Chrome s release in they had the ability to quickly implement these non standard APIs into Chrome in order to allow application developers to utilize them before specification stabilization One such example of this was Polymer which was a component library based on v APIs to provide two way UI binding using MVC It s initial alpha release was announced in early alongside the specifications At Google Dev Summit they walked through its capabilities and how it was able to run in other browsers by utilizing polyfills Facebook not one to be outdone on the technical engineering front introduced React into public in While Polymer went deeper into the MVC route React relied more heavily on unidirectionality in order to avoid state mutations amp Formative YearsWhile only the year prior Polymer was released with the usage of v custom element spec saw the release of the custom element v specification This new version of the specification was not backwards compatible and as a result required a shift to the new version of the specification in order to function properly Polyfills were continued to be used as a stop gate for browsers that didn t have a v implementation While v was already implemented into Chrome in late it wasn t until with the release of Polymer that it would be adopted back into the library that helped draft the specification Because of this while YouTube s new Polymer rewrite theoretically was a huge step towards the usage of web components it posed a problem Browsers like Firefox without a v implementation were forced to continue to use Polyfills which are slower than native implementations and Beyond Maturity is where Web Components really found their foothold For a start Mozilla implemented the v specification APIs into their stable release of Firefox complete with dedicated devtools Finally developers could use all of the web components APIs in their app cross browser and without any concern for non Chrome performance On top of that React s unidirectionality seemed to have won over the Polymer team The Polymer team announced that it would migrate away from bidirectional binding and towards a one way bound LitElementThat LitElement would then turn into a dedicated framework called “Lit developed to replace Polymer as its successor that would hit v in and v in TimelineWhew That s a lot to take in Let s see it all from a thousand foot view Knockout js releasedBackbone js alpha releasedAngular js made open source MDV Polymer predecessor introduced at a conference Working draft spec for Web Components v releasedPolymer Google s web component framework announcedReact open sourced Polymer released Custom elements v spec releasedYouTube rewritten in Polymer Polymer released Polymer announces start of migration to “LitElement Firefox enables web components Polyfills no longer needed Lit framework releasedLit released ConclusionIn the past years we ve seen massive changes to the web development ecosystem No more is this more apparent than the development and continued growth of web components Hopefully this should put any future learnings about web components and framework comparisons into perspective We ve waited a long time to see many of these ideas fully standardized into the web platform and now that they re here they re helping accelerate growth of many platforms Want to learn how to build them yourself We have articles about how to build web components without a framework as well as using Google s Lit framework |

Day Guess Who x s Back liner notes Professional Guess who s back Today I took it pretty slow I got home from the airport at like am and had a bunch of meetings Worked on a couple of light things to take it easy like fill out event forms and some documents for upcoming stuff I need to submit my expenses as well Personal So I just came back from like a and a half week tour of Europe I got to visit London Paris Amsterdam and Brussels It was for work I did a bunch of workshops talks interviews and a meetup It was a pretty hectic schedule but I was able to get it all done and with some really good feedback I was able to chronicle the trip with photos and videos on mt recently revamped site or The site performed very well There s a couple features that I think will be pretty handy that I could only have thought of by actually using it Those things are bulk uploading and being able to read the metadata from photos Going to investigate and see what it takes to make it work One thing that I liked doing was to record retrospective videos Basically going over what happened during the day Sometimes I wasn t able to do it at the end of day so I combined multiple days into one video I took notes so that I wouldn t forget any points and to keep my rambling to a minimum Once I got a template down I was able to knock out the videos pretty quickly Will definitely do more as I travel Probably catch up to Atlanta and go to bed early tonight Have a great night peace pieceDwane conshus |

Wordle’s Wordlebot will analyze how badly you played |

Wordle s Wordlebot will analyze how badly you playedEveryone has their own approach to playing Wordle Some methods are arguably better than others But what if a computer could help players perfect their gameplay The New York Times just unveiled WordleBot an optional feature that breaks down a completed game and reveals what players could have done to play more efficiently We ve all had rounds of Wordle where we ve finally landed the winning word on the fifth try or were stumped completely For those less than stellar attempts WordleBot is likely to be a useful post mortem Players also receive a score between to on luck and efficiency This will likely up the ante amongst families or friend groups who compete to solve each game in the fewest tries possible WordleBot also reveals how each player s score stacks up against others Given the annoying Twitter craze of players posting Wordle scores in order to see how they measure up against others or humblebrag there s no doubt a need for this WordleBot s ratings are also a useful measure of whether a game was particularly hard run of the mill or unusually easy Wordlebot is not as impressed with my performance today as I thought it would be pic twitter com HUrwzUMoーNate Cohn Nate Cohn April In a Q amp A the NYT gave a simple explanation of how WordleBot works “Every Wordle game starts with one of possible solutions as the hidden word At each turn WordleBot chooses the word that will allow it to solve the game in as few steps as possible assuming any of the remaining solutions are equally likely quot For many players WordleBot may simply be more information than they need Especially if Wordle is just meant to be a fun distraction But hardcore Wordle players or those who feel their gameplay has stagnated are likely to welcome the new feature WordleBot could also bring back former players who want to know how much of their success was due to good gameplay ーor just a lot of luck |
