海外TECH DEV Community How To Report a Site That Steals Your Articles https://dev.to/perssondennis/how-to-report-a-site-that-steals-your-articles-5040 How To Report a Site That Steals Your ArticlesA website is systematically stealing loads of articles published on DEV this is what you can and should do about such infringements A short time back I googled to find one of my own blog articles I do that quite often since it s an easy way for me to find my articles quickly But this time I noticed that the search result that appeared right after my article had the exact same title as mine The site appears right below my DEV article on googleI got curious and visited the page and was met by an exact copy of my own blog article the only difference was that they had systematically substituted single words with synonyms all over the text as a bad attempt to make the article look unique to Google The beginning of the article they have stolen from meI further inspected the website a bit to see what was going on While doing that I found loads of articles published on DEV and there was no information about the source of the articles The canonical link referred to the site itself instead of the original publisher Has your article been stolen as well I don t know but I can see they copy plenty of articles daily and I do know why you should care about it I ll guide you what to do if this happens to you I ll explain why you should care and I will tell you why it s important I have decided not to expose the name of the website that steals your DEV articles I don t intend to slander anyone If DEV are interested to know more and take action they can contact me privately Why Should You Report a Stolen Blog Post The obvious reason to report a stolen blog article is because it steals traffic from your own website If the site has better SEO than yours it will appear before your own site on Google and most organic traffic will go to that site instead of your own blog As a result people won t read your articles and you are writing them completely in vain It can even get worse than that If Google detects that your blog contains content that are duplicated on another site it can hurt how you rank on Google If you don t care about if people are reading your blog posts or not you should still take action against a stolen article Your action can prevent the site from stealing articles from others who do care about it How To Report a Stolen Site If you google how to report a stolen site one of the first suggestions is to contact the owner of the website who has stolen it and ask if they can remove it That s a perfect example of what you should not do Why To begin with it may not be very effective If you even get an answer from the owner of the site you have no guarantee they will remove it Furthermore if they would remove your article you have helped nobody but yourself and not by very much After removing the article they can simply republish it again or stealing the very next article you write And no one except you or the website owner will know about the copyright infringement and they can carelessly continue to steal articles from other people If you think there s a chance that the website has copied your article by mistake or with a good intention Make sure to contact them directly so they can remove the article without being discredited in any way The ending of my stolen article they have even copied my name A Better Approach To Report a Stolen Blog PostWell last approach wasn t very effective What to do instead You can always try to find who s hosting the website and contact them Sites like whois can tell you who is hosting the site This is a fair thing to do Some hosting providers will take down sites that abuse like this By doing this you make it a bit harder for the site owner to continue their light fingered business Going to GoogleAnother approach to report a page with stolen content is to ask Google to remove it You can easily report it to google by reporting an intellectual property issue here Important to mention is that Google can t remove the site from the internet your stolen blog post will still be accessible by its link and for people who use another search engine than Google If it s important that even the website itself gets removed you should additionally try some of the previously mentioned approaches The benefit of reporting it to Google is that they can remove the article from appearing in search results and potentially even degrade Google s rating of the website In this way you are not only helping yourself you are also making Google aware of the website s shady business so they can prevent this from happening to other people Let s Go to the CourtIf nothing else helps you can always make a lawsuit of it You don t actually need any more information about this approach It depends on which country you live in but if the cops actually care it will likely be a troublesome and expensive process that probably only works if your brand is well known Poor wife of Rob will never understand why he never came to rescue her Let the World KnowThe last approach of how to report a stolen article I will present today is to let the world know about it This may be a bad idea if they only have stolen something from you personally Chances are that you will just give them attention in form of publicity backlinks site visits etc Reading this article you may realize this is kind of what I have done I make people aware of what is happening I m not interested in denigrating anyone rather I want to enlighten the problem and assist with a suggested solution turning setbacks into knowledge For that reason I don t mention the name of the site on topic because I wouldn t recommend trying to defame anyone mum or dad boot Who thought it was a good idea to replace words in the code ConclusionThere are multiple ways to report a website that has stolen your blog article What s probably most important is to get it removed from appearing in Google searches otherwise it will compete with your site s SEO directly In other cases it may be important to get the article removed from the website that stole it By reporting a stolen blog articles correctly you can help preventing the website from continuing stealing articles from others Personally I would suggest the following approach If you think the website may have published your article by mistake or with a good intention contact them to sort out any misunderstandings without taking any further steps It s not fair to punish them for an innocent mistake If it s obvious that they consciously have stolen your article for their own benefits don t get in touch with them Contacting them may help you get the article removed but they can carelessly continue to steal articles from other people Report the stolen article to Google Google can stop displaying the stolen article in search results on google com and they can potentially also decide to stop indexing that website completely if they receive reports from many people Contact the hosting provider of the website and let them know about your case Copyright infringement may be a violation of their terms of use which gives them the rights to disrupt the hosting of the website 2022-06-05 14:53:05
海外TECH DEV Community 5 Tips For Writing Cleaner Code https://dev.to/justice_hub/5-tips-for-writing-cleaner-code-2ioo Tips For Writing Cleaner CodeWhen you re writing code it s important to be mindful of your coding practices This means taking the time to write clean organized code that is easy for others to read and understand Here are a five tips to help you get started Avoid Unnecessary NestingNesting in code is something we do all the time and although there s nothing inherently wrong with nesting it can sometimes make code harder to read One approach to help avoid this is to use the Return Early design pattern It allows us to use the if statement as a guard clause to check for errors and return before executing any further code It helps avoid the use of if else and unnecessary nesting Like this Beforefunction deleteItem item if item null console log Deleting item item delete Afterfunction deleteItem item if item null return console log Deleting item item delete As you can see the second implementation is obviously cleaner this approach can help make your code more linear cleaner and more readable It s a simple technique that is easy to implement Object Destructuring For Function ParametersLet s assume we have a function that takes an object as the parameter and performs some kind of operation on that object to return a new value Without using object destructuring we might get something like this not so goodfunction getFullName person const firstName person firstName const lastName person lastName return firstName lastName This implementation works just fine but a better way to implement this is to use object destructuring We can destruct the person object to get both the first name and last name in one line betterfunction getFullName person const firstName lastName person return firstname lastName Using Pure FunctionsPure functions are a great way to write code that is easy to read and understand By using pure functions you can avoid creating complex and difficult to follow code Pure functions always return the same result given the same input which makes them predictable and reliable Additionally pure functions are easy to test and debug making them ideal for use in software development projects badlet items function changeNumber number items number return items changeNumber goodfunction addThree number return number Keep Functions SimpleThere is a lot of wisdom in keeping functions simple When you keep your functions small and focused it s easier to understand what they do and how they work This makes them less error prone and more maintainable Additionally when you keep your code modular it becomes easier to reuse individual functions in different contexts function signUpAndValidate Do a stuff here It is best to keep functions responsible for one thing only This is a better approach function signUp function validate In short keeping your functions simple makes for better code that is easier to understand and maintain So next time you are faced with the challenge of writing some code remember to keep things simple Use Meaningful Variable NamesUse meaningful variable names It makes your code more readable and easier to debug For example don t use x or y as variables use something that describes what the variable is for like currentWidth or inputValue badlet x let y goodlet currentWidth let inputValue Thanks for readingVisit my site for know more about of me 2022-06-05 14:36:35
海外TECH DEV Community Cost Optimizations in AWS - Part 1 https://dev.to/alsaheem/cost-optimizations-in-aws-part-1-25mn Cost Optimizations in AWS Part This is my first post I m not really a fan of writing but here i am still doing it Here are some tips i believe would be helpful with cost optimization on AWSThis are the steps i take to reduce my costs on aws cloud EC Instance TypeWhen choosing an instance type for a particular workload here are some questions to ask yourselfQuestions to ask yourself What is the use case for this workload This question above helps you understand the need for the particular workload This leads me to the questions belowWhat is the capacity Ram Cpu or Storage How often would the instance be utilized would be instance be running a machine learning application and needs more compute would it just be running a light web application e t c These questions helps you select the best instance to select on the basis of memory cpu or ram usage Elastic IP sElastic IP addresses can actually add cost to your infrastructure when not in use since IPv addresses are limited it makes sense that AWS charges you for them when not in use and makes it free when in use also note that attaching EIP addresses to the same instance would still require AWS to charge you AWS Instance schedulerDevelopment services and other non production services instance and database can be turned off when not in use This can be automated by using AWS Instance Scheduler which helps you automate the process of keeping your instances down based on your custom schedule when you believe that no one is currently using the services This can be done for a company running on a basis that has a non production instance and database running The company can schedule the services by pm daily and bring them back online by am the next morning This would be fully automated by instance scheduler Adding EC instances and Database instances to instance scheduler can be done by tagging the instances with the created instance scheduler name Autoscalingif the autoscaling is frequent on your service i e you scale like times in the hour you might need to change your instance size to a more stable instance This can help you reduce your costs and reduce the scaling frequency of your application during peak limits Also if you understand the timing and trend of traffic into your service you should look at scheduled scaling to help scale the service at periods of high traffic Spot instancesSpot instances can give a great reduction in cost because Spot Instances are a cost effective choice if you can be flexible about when your applications run and if your applications can be interrupted For example Spot Instances are well suited for data analysis batch jobs background processing and optional tasks DatabaseUse RDS serverless for non production database instances with infrequent usage RDS Serverless reduces the instances running the database when not being used This dosen t mean that your database would not be running This means that it would be in a sleep mode when no API calls have been made to the database for a while when the database is in a sleep mode the first call is usually a but slow before the database picks up the usual work pace This is perfect for non production environments you only pay for what you use Some AWS tools to give you more insights into your resources and services costAWS Trusted Advisor based on past days Tells you about the followingAmazon reserved instance optimizationIdle load balancersUnderutilized EBS volumesUnassociated EIP addressesIdle RDS db instancesAmazon Route latency resource record setsUnderutilised Amazon Redshift Clusters 2022-06-05 14:14:33
海外TECH DEV Community Appwrite Hand-In-Hand with Svelte Kit (SSR) https://dev.to/meldiron/appwrite-hand-in-hand-with-svelte-kit-ssr-5097 Appwrite Hand In Hand with Svelte Kit SSR If you are here only to see how to make SSR work you can jump into Server Side Rendering and Deployment sections They explain it all You can also check out the GitHub repository Let s build a project In this article we will build Almost Casino a web application that allows you to sign in and play coin flip with virtual currently called Almost Dollar As you can see not the brightest idea The point of the project is not to build a B company in a weekend instead to showcase how we can achieve server side rendering with Appwrite backend ️Pics pics pics Let s see what we are going to build A single page that shows the ID of the currently logged in user his current balance and a coin flip game When playing coin flip you can configure a bet and pick which side of the coin you would like to bet on For the sick of simplicity there will be no coin flipping animation Do you know what that means YOU can add the cool looking animation RequirementsWe will be using multiple technologies in this demo application and having a basic understanding of them will be extremely helpful Regarding the JavaScript framework we will be using a simple and fun framework Svelte To allow routing and introduce better folder structure as well as the possibility of SSG and SSR we are going to use Svelte Kit To give our application some cool styles we will use TailwindCSS a CSS library for rapid designing Instead of writing our own backend from scratch we will be using backend as a service Appwrite to build and deploy server logic easily Last but not least we will use Vercel as our static ️Create Svekte Kit ProjectThe whole Almost Casino application is open sourced and can be found in GitHub repository The app is also live on the app almost casino matejbaco eu For those who follow along let s create a new Svelte Kit project npm init svelte almost casinoWhich Svelte app template ›Skeleton projectAdd type checking ›TypeScriptAdd ESLint for code linting …No YesAdd Prettier for code formatting …No YesAdd Playwright for browser testing …No YesNext let s enter our new project and run the development server cd almost casino npm install npm run devWe now have the Svelte Kit web application running and listening on localhost Let s make sure to follow Tailwind installation instructions to install it into our newly created Svelte Kit project Appwrite backend setupIf you don t have the Appwrite server running yet please follow Appwrite installation instructions Once the server is ready let s create an account and a project with the custom ID almostCasino Next we go into the Database section and create a collection with ID profiles In the setting of this collection we set collection level permission with read access to role member and write access empty Finally we add the float attribute balance and mark it as required Appwrite ServiceLet s start by creating a env file and putting information about our Appwrite project in there VITE APPWRITE ENDPOINT http localhost vVITE APPWRITE PROJECT ID almostCasinoBefore coding the application let s create a class that will serve as an interface for all communication with our Appwrite backend Here we will have methods for authentication managing profile and playing the coin flip game Let s create new file src lib appwrite ts with all of the methods import Appwrite type RealtimeResponseEvent type Models from appwrite const appwrite parse response response didWin With this in place we have everything ready to have proper communication between our Svelte Kit application and our Appwrite backend You can notice we execute some functions in this class for instance createProfile or placeBet We use Appwrite Functions for these actions to keep them secure and not allow clients to make direct changes to their money balance You can find the source code of these functions in GitHub repository Authentication PageWe start by creating a button to create an account Since we are going to be using anonymous accounts we don t need to ask visitor for any information lt button on click onRegister class flex items center justify center space x bg brand hover bg brand text white rounded none px py gt if registering lt span gt lt variable indicating loading status lt script lang ts gt let registering false async function onRegister if registering return registering true try await AppwriteService createAccount await goto casino catch err any alert err message err message err finally registering false lt script gt Finally let s add a logic to redirect user to casino route if we can see he is already logged in This will allow visitors getting to to be automatically redirected to casino if they are already logged in lt script context module lang ts gt import browser from app env import goto from app navigation import Alert from lib alert import AppwriteService type Profile from lib appwrite import Loading from lib Loading svelte export async function load request any try const account await AppwriteService getAccount free to add some cool styles around it Game PageLet s make a file src routes casino svelte to register our new route In this file let s start by writing a logic of loading the data In there let s load user s account information as well as profile lt script context module lang ts gt import browser from app env import goto from app navigation import Alert from lib alert import AppwriteService type Profile from lib appwrite import Loading from lib Loading svelte export async function load request any try const account await AppwriteService getAccount const profile await AppwriteService already That will automatically give us a balance of almost dollars These information can now be received in a JavaScript variable lt script lang ts gt import type Models RealtimeResponseEvent from appwrite Data from module export let account Models User lt any gt undefined export let profile Profile undefined lt script gt You can ignore types import for now They will come into play later Just make sure to keep it there Next let s show our account information For sick of simplicity we will only show the ID of the account lt p class mb text lg text brand gt There we go account created Don t believe This is your ID lt b class font bold gt account id lt b gt lt p gt Let s also prepare a button for user to sign out lt button on click onSignOut class flex items center justify center space x that HTML part of our casino page is ready Let s start adding the logic by first adding method for signing out let signingOut false async function onSignOut if signingOut return signingOut true try let bet number let betting false function onBet side heads tails return async gt if profile account betting return betting true try const didWin await AppwriteService bet bet side if didWin alert You won bet Almost Dollars else alert You lost bet Almost Dollars catch err any alert err message err message err finally betting false Let s finish off by adding a real time subscription to our profile This will automatically update the balance displayed on the website as soon as it changes on the backend if profile amp amp browser AppwriteService subscribeProfile profile id onProfileChange function onProfileChange response RealtimeResponseEvent lt Profile gt profile response payload We have just finished the casino page And I think That makes our Almost Casino complete Let s now look at the main topic of this application SSR Server Side Rendering Let s do the magic We start by creating src hooks ts file In there we intercept each request and get Appwrite authorization headers We also return it in order to later retrieve it as part of our session object import as cookie from cookie export function getSession event any const cookieStr event request headers get cookie const cookies cookie parse cookieStr const authCookie cookies a session import meta env VITE APPWRITE PROJECT ID toLowerCase legacy return authCookie For this to work make sure to install cookie library with npm install cookie Next at the beginning of every load function one in src routes index svelte one in src routes casino svelte let s add these two lines to extract our authentication headers from the session and apply then to Appwrite SDK Using SSR auth cookies from hook ts if request session authCookie AppwriteService setSSR request session authCookie With this in place SSR will now work properly You might not see it yet due to cookies following same domain policy but we will address that in the deployment section Deployment Since we will deploy to Vercel let s make sure we use the correct adapter We start by installing the adapter npm i sveltejs adapter vercelNext let s update our svelte config js to use our new adapter import adapter from sveltejs adapter vercel This was adapter auto previously we just need to rename to adapter vercel const config kit adapter adapter edge false external split false This makes our app ready for Vercel Let s make a Git repository out of our project sign in to Vercel and deploy the app There is no need for any special configuration Once the application is deployed make sure to put both Appwrite and Vercel applications on the same domain in order for SSR to work with authentication cookies If your application runs on the root of the domain for instance mycasino com then your Appwrite could be on any subdomain like api mycasino com If you plan to host your application on a subdomain make sure to host it under the subdomain on which Appwrite runs For instance you could have Appwrite on domain mycasino myorg com and Vercel application on domain app mycasino myorg com ‍ConclusionWe successfully built a project that confirms Appwrite plays well with all technologies out there I am really happy I got this article out as there were many requests from the Appwrite community regarding SSR and now I have a place to point them to even with code examples This demo application can also serve as an example for building the same SSR logic with other frameworks such as Angular Vue or React They all follow a really similar structure regarding SSR and it all comes down to extracting cookies from requests and setting them on Appwrite SDK Useful
