a contribution Toolsaws execaws exec this project from nathants enables you to do adhoc shell execution in AWS Lambda functions Check out the documentation around use cases and how this works but this looks like it might be pretty handy edgyedgy Peter Mescalchin has put together this tool that helps you author tests for Node js based AWS CloudFront Lambda Edge functions Edgy provides four core constructors which directly relate to each of the four life cycle points available in a CloudFront request In Peters own words Been doing a bit of work recently with CloudFront using Lambda Edge functions under Node js to the point I really needed some half decent unit tests written so I ve put together an npm package harness to help write those tests Package helps craft Lambda Edge event payloads for the four available request points execute those payloads against given functions and returns the result to allow for test assertions Edgy also does its own semi extensive validation of function results returned to at some level validate it would pass as a valid expected CloudFront response If you find this helpful make sure you let Peter know AccumulusAccumulus this project is a web application that provides comprehensive charts for direct comparison of functions while presenting bottlenecks and potential areas for resource allocation adjustments In the post Meet Accumulus ーA Quick updatesAmazon EMRAmazon EMR release now supports Apache Spark Apache Spark RAPIDS CUDA Apache Hudi Apache Iceberg Trino and PrestoDB You can use the performance optimized version of Apache Spark on EMR on EC EKS and recently released EMR Serverless In addition Apache Hudi and Apache Iceberg are available on EC EKS and Serverless Apache Hive is available on EMR on EC and EMR Serverless Trino and PrestoDB are only available on EMR on EC Each Amazon EMR release version uses a default Amazon Linux AL Amazon Machine Image AMI for Amazon EMR Prior to Amazon EMR the default AMI was based on the latest and up to date Amazon Linux AMI available at the time of the Amazon EMR release Therefore the Amazon EMR release version was locked to its respective assigned AL AMI This means that any new updates to AL were not automatically updated unless you moved to the next Amazon EMR release or manually install them With Amazon EMR and subsequent releases every time you launch an EMR on EC cluster Amazon EMR automatically uses the latest AL release See our documentation to learn more With Amazon EMR release and later applications that use Logj x and Logj x will be upgraded to use Logj or higher and Logj or higher respectively and will not require using the bootstrap actions provided above to mitigate the CVE issues Further with Amazon EMR release cluster startup time on EMR on EC has improved by seconds on average for clusters that use Amazon EMR default AMI option and install common applications like Apache Hadoop Apache Spark and Apache Hive MySQLFollowing the announcement of updates in MySQL database versions and we have updated Amazon Relational Database Service Amazon RDS for MySQL to support MySQL minor versions and FlutterThe Amplify Flutter team is announcing the release of version of the Amplify Flutter library Read more about this in the post NEW Amplify Flutter Release Notes In addition to this post AWS Amplify Flutter has introduced support for creating customisable authentication flows using Amazon Cognito Lambda triggers Using this functionality developers are able to setup customisations for the login experience in their Flutter apps such as creating OTP login flows or adding CAPTCHA to their Flutter app Developers of Amplify Flutter can setup the Auth category to use custom challenges using the Amplify CLI such as one time passwords or Captcha The Amplify CLI provisions Lambdas in the backend which then interact with Amazon Cognito to verify the challenges Developers can build the custom challenges are built in steps such as providing a one time password after using an email for login and a user of the app will have to clear each step in the challenges to get authenticated SteampipeSteampipe is an open source tool where you can use SQL to instantly query your cloud services Via a collection of mods you can do various things such as compliance checks NIST is a regulatory standard that defines the minimum baseline of 海外TECH DEV Community Solving the Cold Start Challenge for Lambda Function Using Terraform Cloud https://dev.to/pedramha/solving-the-cold-start-challenge-for-lambda-function-using-terraform-cloud-1o2m Solving the Cold Start Challenge for Lambda Function Using Terraform CloudIn this post we are going to properly address the cold starts for Lambda Functions In a later post we will create a private module which facilitates consumption of this module Start in an empty directory and create the following files main tf variables tf output tf terraform auto tfvars In the main tf file add the following to it provider aws region eu central One quick note please NEVER add your credentials here Ideally store credentials as environment variables in Terraform Cloud Now open the terminal and execute the terraform init command This will initialize our directory with the AWS provider To deploy the lambda function we will need to upload the packaged code to S So I am also leveraging the random provider to make sure that the S Bucket is unique resource random pet lambda bucket name prefix test length resource aws s bucket lambda bucket bucket random pet lambda bucket name id acl private tags env test The two resources above will just create a random bucket The following command will allow me to package the code before uploading it to S I prefer to avoid the local executioner whenever possible data archive file lambdaFunc lambda bucket type zip source dir var src path output path var target path After that I create the bucket for my deployment artifact resource aws s bucket object lambdaFunc lambda bucket bucket aws s bucket lambda bucket id key var target path source data archive file lambdaFunc lambda bucket output path etag filemd data archive file lambdaFunc lambda bucket output path tags env test Now things get more interesting When you deploy a lambda function you can specify a few parameters that are relevant when you want to deploy in production One is of course the reserved concurrency AWS limits the number of concurrent executions per account and per region Therefore for having predictability for our concurrency and not having our Lambda function throttled by other lambdas we set this parameter resource aws lambda function lambdaFunc function name var function name s bucket aws s bucket lambda bucket id s key aws s bucket object lambdaFunc lambda bucket key runtime var lambda runtime handler var handler source code hash data archive file lambdaFunc lambda bucket output basesha role aws iam role lambda exec arn reserved concurrent executions var concurrent executions tags env test Now we get to the most important port Cold Start As officially suggested by AWS I will be leveraging provisioned concurrency to deploy the lambda function There are many solutions which use aws cloud watch as rules but I really believe that provisioned concurrency is much simpler and comfortable to use Moreover in order to use the provisioned concurrency we will need to create an Alias This Alias can also serve as a way to do Blue Green or Canary deployments which we will hopefully cover in a future post resource aws lambda alias con lambda alias name lambda alias description for blue green deployments OR for concurrency function name aws lambda function lambdaFunc arn function version var function version resource aws lambda provisioned concurrency config config function name aws lambda alias con lambda alias function name provisioned concurrent executions var provisioned concurrent executions qualifier aws lambda alias con lambda alias name Please note that I used variables as the value for these parameters These variables have defaults Feel free to change them as your use case requires Also please be aware that the provisioned concurrency is going to cost you as AWS keeps a warm instance of your application somewhere Lastly we need a basic policy for our lambda function resource aws iam role lambda exec name serverless lambda assume role policy jsonencode Version Statement Effect Allow Principal Service lambda amazonaws com Action sts AssumeRole In the variables tf file add the following to it variable function name type string default test function variable src path type string variable target path type string variable lambda runtime type string default nodejs x variable handler type string default index handler variable region type string default eu central variable concurrent executions type string default variable provisioned concurrent executions type string default variable function version type string default And in the terraform auto tfvars file add the following content src path src the path to the source code for lambdafunction target path artifacts lambda deployment zip the path for the deployment artifactYou can of course bring your own lambda function but if you don t have one create a folder called src and a file in it called index handler and add the following to it exports handler async event gt const payload date new Date message Terraform is awesome return JSON stringify payload Now you can deploy the application using Terraform CLI or Terraform Cloud For the CLI version simply run terraform apply auto approve If you want to use Terraform Cloud to have GitOps use the following documentation This problem might have been difficult to solve but I can guarantee that it is much harder to communicate the solution to someone properly I will create another blog post explaining how you can optimally share this solution with someone inside your organization GitHub Repository Youtube Thank you Pedram 2022-06-10 09:07:16
