海外TECH DEV Community 7 Marketing Strategies for Your Software Development Content https://dev.to/codingwithryan/7-marketing-strategies-for-your-software-development-content-1lf4 Marketing Strategies for Your Software Development ContentCapture a larger audience with your software development contentCreating content for software developers is tricky and time consuming In this article I m going to explain what you can do to make the most of your content and capture a larger audience I ll introduce you to Promoting Before PublishingRewriting ContentPublishing to Third party PlatformsRepurposing ContentFollow on ContentSyndicationPromotionOnce you ve published a piece of content your work is only half finished For that content to have an impact on your developer community and attract a larger audience you need to promote and reuse it far and wide I ve created an example workflow as a guide for how you can do this with a blog post Miro Online Whiteboard for Visual Collaboration miro com Making the most of a software development blog postThe workflow is based around a blog post It would be slightly different for videos podcasts conference talks etc but the principles are the same ーat every stage of content production you should be thinking about how to reuse the content effectively and how you can promote the content I ll use the example workflow as a guide throughout this article Let s break it down Promoting Before PublishingFirst you should be promoting your content before you ve published it If you have a following on social media however small or you are active in a community of some kind think Reddit Discord Slack Workplaces etc then you can begin promoting content before it s even completed You d be surprised how many people are interested in what you are working on Say you re writing a blog post tutorial on how to use an API you could post a working example of the GUI you ve built to interact with the API Alternatively ask people what they think of a certain aspect of the content Run a poll asking whether app design A or B is better what feature they d be most interested in or what common problems they face when using the API The pre publishing promotion section of the blog post content workflowAn added benefit to promoting and engaging your audience before publishing is that it can give you feedback before your work is even finished An example of promoting before publishingOne person who does this really well for their YouTube videos is Nicholas Renotte Before a video is completed they publish on their channel what they re working on They publish previews and screenshots and they often ask for input from their subscribers on ideas Asking for feedback on what ideas they should work on nextTeasing a new tutorial by posting their resultsA word of warning if you re promoting something before it s finished or published make sure you finish it Nothing is more frustrating to an audience than overpromising and underdelivering Promoting content before you ve finished it is a way to get some quick wins and it can be fun to think imaginatively about how to engage your audience Rewriting ContentOnce the piece of content is published it s time to think about rewriting it Rewriting content is a simple and effective way to maximise your reach For our blog post example we could turn the blog post into a stub article or a how to guide Usually you can keep the majority of the content from the original piece and simply reformat or edit it very slightly Rewrite section of the workflow Example of rewriting contentLevel Up Tutorials are very good at rewriting their content Check out their blog post Get Current Date with JavaScript Temporal API It s a great example of creating a simple short blog post from API documentation Publishing to Third party PlatformsNow that you ve published content it s time to think about where else you can publish it There are lots of platforms you can publish your content to Websites like Medium dev to and Hashnode are great low effort places to publish your developer content rd party platforms for republishingFor SEO reasons when publishing to third party platforms remember to use canonical links Example of publishing content to third party platformsScott Galloway is extremely good at making sure his content is published in as many places as possible All the content on his website is meticulously published on other platforms to attract a wide audience Prof Galloway s blog alongside his Medium blog Repurposing ContentRepurposing content is about changing it from one format to another Who is to say that your blog post can t form the script for a great YouTube video Could it be the basis of a talk you give at a conference Try to think of all the ways you can use repurpose the work you ve already done in a different format to reach a wider audience Repurposing section of the workflowIn the workflow I give a few examples of content you can create by repurposing a blog post Here is a list of all the different content formats I could come up with Blog PostVideoConference TalkPodcast or Audio SnippetLive StreamTwitter ThreadNewsletterI m sure there are many more An advantage of repurposing content is it gives you the ability to capitalise on your good ideas and successes Let s say you hit the jackpot with a great blog post that is shared far and wide and becomes an evergreen post It s brilliant and it is used as a resource by the whole developer community If it s been that successful as a blog post you can be fairly certain it will be a popular video or conference talk Example of repurposing contentThe Tools of Titans book authored by Tim Ferris is a fantastic example of repurposing content of the interviews in the book come from his very successful podcast of the same name Not everyone is going to create an entire book out of reused content but it s a good example of what is possible Tools Of Titans by Tim Ferris Ideate and Follow UpWriting about a topic can inspire you to write about an adjacent topic or write about one aspect of the topic in more detail Always keep an eye out for ideas that present themselves as you are writing or once you ve published Keeping ideas for follow ups can help you capitalise on your successes and find a core audience Tools Of Titans by Tim FerrisLet s say you write a blog post about how Single Sign On works for web app authentication The blog post does really well and it s clear your audience wants more Your next post could be about OAuth SAML or the myriad of other authorisation topics We ve seen some ideas for rewriting repurposing and ideating content Next let s take a look at how we can reuse content on different websites and platforms and how we can promote developer content SyndicationSyndication is the act of handing over control of something for publication or broadcast to multiple websites newsletters or publishers Syndication section of the workflowThis is a small but important section of the content workflow Essentially you want to try and borrow audiences from others There are endless amounts of websites newsletters and third party blogs you can choose from ーeach with its own niche or speciality Here are a few big names to consider HackerNoonTowards Data ScienceGeeksforGeeksBetter ProgrammingDZoneIdeally if you want to build up a relationship with a syndication partner you will often find content creators who regularly contribute to a publisher Syndication is a win win situation the organisation person you syndicate with gets additional content and your content gets shared more widely PromotionTo a lot of people advocating for themselves and shouting about their work doesn t come naturally However promotion is arguably as important as the content itself and it s something you will get better at over time There are lots of ways to promote your content In the example workflow I ve included some social media sites communities and platforms you can use Promotion section of the workflowYou should try to promote your content on all the places I mention and more Let s look at some things that will make your promotion more effective Clickbait worksWe all hate clickbait but it s here for a reason The algorithms platforms use optimise for clicks and ultimately it works You don t have to create clichéor low quality clickbait headlines and thumbnails but you should be thinking about how you can maximise clicks Ask yourself why would someone click on my post Also a picture is worth a thousand words Make sure your posts have a good thumbnail that s properly sized easy to read and eye catching Creating quality thumbnails can take time and practise but the benefits can be massive Clickbait is Unreasonably Effective by Veritasium is a fantastic video describing how important thumbnails and titles are for your content ーI seriously recommend watching Promote it again and again One thing to remember when promoting something is that it doesn t have to be a one time thing You can promote the same piece of content a number of times ーespecially on platforms like Twitter where the feed moves on so quickly You don t want to spam your audience with the same link over and over again but why not post a throwback to a piece of content from a few months ago Reach out to othersIf you know someone with a decent following and it s something you think they would be interested in share your content with them and ask what they think They may even be up for sharing it with their audience Often creators are happy to help others and your content may well be of interest to their audience This works especially well if as part of your content you are promoting their work Maybe you ve cited a security researcher in your blog post they will probably be more than happy to share your content with their followers because it shows the positive impact their work is having Success requires timingDon t fret too much over this but posting and promoting your content at the right time can have a real benefit There s no point promoting your content if most of your audience is asleep Most of my audience is in the US and Europe so I often post around p m GMT It means everyone is awake and it s early enough to catch the morning readers in the US and afternoon readers in Europe Newsletters are tried and testedBuilding a mailing list and having a regular newsletter is surprisingly effective Emails usually have a high click through rate and your mailing list are people who have made a conscious choice to keep up to date with your work Also as I mention in the syndication section of the example workflow try getting your work included in someone else s newsletter Conclusion and RecapHopefully this 海外TECH DEV Community React + TypeScript + ESLint + Prettier Full Setup ✈ https://dev.to/suchintan/reacttypescripteslint-prettier-full-setup-p7j React TypeScript ESLint Prettier Full Setup Table of ContentIntroductionWhy this configuration Configuration Configure ESLint on the projectConfigure Prettier on the projectStart ProjectThank you Introduction Hello amazing developer ‍ before digging into this topic let me give you a small introduction and so instructions Don t worry it would be quick and crisp I am Suchintan Das a Full Stack Developer currently working over two startups I have been into web development for past two years Connect me on LinkedinNote I will be using a Windows machine while doing the process So there can be some case where the commands may differ for you if using a different machine Please help yourself out in that case though I will try my best to cover all such commands Why this configuration Before starting with this tutorial it s important to understand why we need this configuration So let me introduce you to these stacks individually and help you understand their benefits ESLintHave you ever faced issues due to a messy code written by someone and not following the rules that are supposed to be kept in mind while writing the code 🥲 A small example import axios from axios const component gt Like here the developer forgot to add a line gap between imports and the main functional component A similar problem is pushing a lot of console logs on production These things are small but very irritating when the codebase evolves and many lines of code comes into it And yes to maintain clean code they don t need to put that much efforts just following some rules every time make a codebase very clean That s the idea of ESLint and yes you need it to make your codebase very sweet for any new developer to code PrettierHas the same idea as that of ESLint but their combination is really robust Many developers likes ESLint Prettier configuration very good when you want to make you codebase very easy for debugging and onboard TypeScriptI know most of you guys would already are familiar with this framework It s very famous after all But here s a small introduction for this framework Want to follow a structured format for your codebase where all the props function returns etc are setup beforehand so that it avoids mistake Yes I know it s very awesome to work on a project where everything works in a structured way and if anything goes out of the structure you get an error Saves really a lot of time for debuggingTypeScript has interfaces function types and many more A small peak of it is here apiCall ts import axios from axios import AuthLogin AuthRegister from models Auth import setAuthToken from utils controllers setAuthController const baseUrl string String process env REACT APP SERVER URL export const loginauth async email string password string gt console log baseUrl const options AuthLogin method post url baseUrl auth login data email password try axios request options then response gt if response status setAuthToken response data token return response status as Number catch catch e console log e model ts export interface AuthLogin method string url string data AuthLoginBody export interface AuthLoginBody email string password string controller ts const setAuthToken token string gt localStorage setItem idtoken token export default setAuthToken Just see how model defines the structure of the body of api call controller defines the flow of token and main function connects the flow How easily you can debug in such a structured codebase ReactThis framework is alse one of the famous among developers If someone wants to build a Single Page Application with JavaScript and that also very easily Just use this framework It s quite good for new users you divide a page into components so no more reductant code Use props and write JavaScript logics and HTML code It follows JSX which is similar to HTML with some small changes Believe me You will fall in love with it just give it a try A small peak into the file structure in React Configuration Yes now it s time to start the whole configuration There are some prerequisites which you would need on your machine NodeJS installed on the system Git installed on your system A reference blog if needed help blog on git and githubVSCode installed on your system You can have your own choice as well Cool Let s start React TypeScript Template downloadHere are the commands npm users npx create react app template typescript yarn users yarn create react app template typescriptIt would take minutes to download the same If you are facing EPERM error here s a quick fix for you For WindowsOpen cmd as administrator If project is in different drive then use this to switch the drive and navigate to the location cd d d lt project location gt Use the commands here to download the template Configure ESLint on the project Open your terminals and let s configure ESLint on the project Use the command npm users npm init eslint config yarn users yarn create eslint configAnd here s the answer to the CLI of ESLint Let s answer them together in the same flow You can choose some other options on these questions as well based on your needs You can see a new file got created on your root directory named eslintrc json This is a sign that the installation is successful Note Here we are using the Airbnb template as it is widely known in the developers community You can have some different options as well to know more There are some modules you would need while working with Airbnb Use the following commands to install them npm install eslint config airbnb typescript save devNow you would have to update some files Update the file with these configs eslintrc json env browser true es true jest true extends react app react app jest airbnb airbnb typescript plugin import typescript parser typescript eslint parser parserOptions ecmaFeatures jsx true ecmaVersion latest sourceType module project tsconfig json plugins react typescript eslint rules package json Update the scripts with this scripts start react scripts start build react scripts build test react scripts test eject react scripts eject lint eslint lint fix eslint fix Let s test the ESLint Use npm run lint and this should be there on your terminal Nice So now you can see there are already some linting problems in the template of react for TypeScript Don t worry we will head to it and discuss how to fix them But first let us help us out using the command npm run lint fix this command will run the traditional fix provided by ESLint Like single comma s to double but it can t fix the major ones Nice It fixed all those errors for you Yes ESLint does help you out with fixing these error if you are not able to do so You can control rules over ESLint from eslintrc json Here s some of the rules that I apply mostly and you can update the file with this eslintrc json update rules rules react react in jsx scope off react jsx uses react off react jsx props no spreading warn react no unescaped entities off Let s dive into Prettier now Configure Prettier on the project In tech where the things start it end on that point only So let s move back to our terminals and configure prettier Let s install all the dependencies for the same npm users npm install prettier eslint config prettier eslint plugin prettier save dev yarn users yarn add prettier eslint config prettier eslint plugin prettier devI know this time we don t have any file on our root directory like eslint So let s create one with the name prettierrc And yes the purpose of this file is also same as the earlier one This is the config file and it would have all the rules and controls you want to have in your project And let s fill it with this code prettierrc tabWidth semi true singleQuote false trailingComma all printWidth useTabs false endOfLine auto You can always have your own configs For this tutorial I am using the config which is widely used by most developers ‍ Let s update the eslintrc json as well so that it uses prettier now eslintrc json env browser true es true jest true extends react app react app jest airbnb airbnb typescript plugin import typescript plugin prettier recommended parser typescript eslint parser parserOptions ecmaFeatures jsx true ecmaVersion latest sourceType module project tsconfig json plugins react typescript eslint prettier rules react react in jsx scope off react jsx uses react off react jsx props no spreading warn react no unescaped entities off While coding you may face some issues when you need to update the structure of the file as that of prettier which can go tiring Here s a small extension that I use personally and this would make your life easier So install it To Format the document shortcut keys are Windows Shift Alt FMac Shift Options FLinux Ctrl Shift IManually Right Click Format document with PrettierSo if you face any errors of prettier don t forget to use this commands to format the document correctly Yes you are done with the configuration Start Project Use the command npm start and run the project There will be couple of prettier errors To fix them go on the file and do the format document with Prettier extension And this should start your project like this Here s the link to the GitHub Repository Thank you You have made it till the end of this blog More such blogs are on the line It would be encouraging if a small comment would be there on the blog I go through each one of them so do comment If you want to get a notification when it would be published don t forget to tap on the follow button And at last I want to say Keep coding ️⃣ keep rocking 2022-06-14 09:08:12
海外TECH DEV Community Data Consistency in the Microservice Architecture https://dev.to/vudodov/data-consistency-in-the-microservice-architecture-41mg Data Consistency in the Microservice ArchitectureData Consistency is an enigma of Distributed Architecture It is a rather poetic way to say that something is a pain in the ass It might not be that obvious at the first glance but Data Consistency never exists in isolation It is heavily bonded with Availability and Partition Tolerance If they sound alien don t worry We will closely look at them and their friendship in a momentBecause of the close bond the change in one will silently trigger a change in another and so forth In its turn this change train will replace one set of problems with another And there you have it change on one end brought problems on the other An interdependency between Consistency Availability and Partition Tolerance in the distributed system has been described by the CAP Theorem Originally it was formulated by Eric A Brewer for distributed data stores But it is applicable for any distributed stateful architecture hence Microservice Architecture I think its applicability is worth explaining We will star with Microservice Architecture definition Here s a very concise definitionloosely coupled service oriented architecture with bounded contextsAdrian CockcroftIf we ll elaborate on it A Microservice Architecture is an approach where the application is built with a set of independently deployable services The separation of concerns SoC is used to set service boundaries Hence each service has its own well defined purpose And is either stateless or owns its data Me in my previous articleIt is not uncommon for a cluster of services to have an interest in the same subset of data Because each stateful service is supposed to own its data a cluster like this is a distributed storage for that subset of data This means we can apply a CAP Theorem to it CAP TheoremThe theorem states that though it s desirable to have Consistency Availability and Partition Tolerance unfortunately no system can achieve all three simultaneously In other words we can choose at most two from given three characteristics Before refining this theorem for Microservices let s define C A and P ConsistencyData Consistency comes in two flavors Strongly Consistent or Eventually Consistent The data is Strongly Consistent if any two arbitrary services in the cluster that share a subset of data have the same version of the data at any given moment The data is Eventually Consistent if any two arbitrary services in the cluster share a subset of data but don t necessarily have the same version of the data at any given moment But they guaranteed to have the same version eventually This theorem implies Strong Consistency by this characteristic In other words if your architecture has this characteristic the data within is strongly consistent AvailabilityAvailability means that any arbitrary service is not blocked locked at any given moment Note it is not an availability from an uptime perspective aka High Availability but rather from a serving perspective The service is available for request processing even though it might not have the latest version of the data at any given moment Partition ToleranceIn the context of Microservice Architecture this characteristic is not really an optional one it is a given one Partition is a break or delay in the communication between services Having partition tolerance means you are confident in the glue between your services and the underlying infrastructure Given modern infrastructure cloud providers and most all modern message brokers guarantee at least once message delivery This is a rather given and non negotiable for Microservice Architecture Refined CAP Theorem CA Theorem Said that let s refine the general definition of CAP Theorem and turn it into a Microservice Architecture edition Because Partition Tolerance is a given we will dismiss it from the definition In Microservice Architecture for any given cluster of services we can guarantee either Strong Consistency or Availability Consistency vs AvailabilityLet s look at how we can guarantee one or another characteristic in Microservice Architecture And at what cost Spoiler Alert as we go we will observe that for Microservice Architecture the choice is pretty much predefined Two Phase Commit PC Two Phase Commit aka Distributed Transaction is an attempt to commit write update a shared piece of information for each service in the cluster in thanks captain obvious two phases This approach will require a coordinator service that will control the execution of both phases Phase The coordinator checks each service in the cluster on readiness to perform the transaction This phase locks each service right after service response The lock is necessary to ensure that when we are going to carry on with the actual operation phase services will remain in the same state as we leave them in this phase If any service is not ready we cancel the whole transaction and unlock all services Phase Actually perform an update operation for each service in the cluster Once this phase is over all services are unlocked Evidently this approach guarantees Consistency over Availability CA Theorem All services in the cluster will maintain strongly consistent data after every PC transaction However they will be locked during the whole process hence unavailable If you decide to use this approach in the Microservice Architecture I d strongly recommend reconsidering the boundaries of all services included in the cluster This approach strongly couples all services in the cluster and goes against the definition of Microservice Architecture And fits well in the definition of the Distributed Monolith On top of that I don t believe any modern message broker provides PC as an option hence you will have to build and maintain your own Coordinator SagasIn opposition to Two Phase Commit Saga guarantees Availability over Consistency Meaning that data will be eventually consistent It is the most common approach to enforcing data consistency in Microservice Architecture Saga represents a controlled sequence of independent transactions executed by each service in the cluster If one of the services fails to execute the necessary transaction the rollback is performed by a sequence of compensative transactions The saga comes in two flavors Depending on who coordinates its execution It can be either service choreographed or service orchestrated Service ChoreographyService Choreography is a model of decentralized service composition Knowledge of Saga and how to execute it is spread among services that participate in Saga Each service knows which service it needs to send a message to if it successfully executes a local transaction And it also knows how to construct and where to send a compensative message in case a local transaction fails or a successive service sends a compensative transaction We wouldn t necessarily use direct communication between services like RPC but rather a queue Service OrchestrationService Orchestration is a model of centralized service composition Saga is coordinated by orchestration service The main role of the orchestrator is to deliver the message from the sender to all other Saga participants aka message subscribers Often a message broker is employed as an orchestrator Both general and compensation messages are coordinated by the orchestrator Bottom lineI d recommend using Service Orchestrated Sagas with a modern Message Broker as an orchestrator for implementing data consistency in the Microservice Architecture The message broker will decouple services in the cluster It will reduce friction surfaces between services and in opposition to Service Choreographed Sagas it will remove unnecessary awareness from each service about its Saga predecessor and successor 2022-06-14 09:07:47
