Get notified when there are commits to pull in VS CodeWith the help of GitLive s new pull reminders you can now pull sooner reduce the chances of conflicts and merge faster Get notified the moment your remote has been updated and there are commits to pull from your tracking branch We ll even notify you on falling behind your base branch the branch you plan to merge your changes back into once you re done we figure out your base branch by checking the git reflog to see which branch you originally branched off when you created your current branch It s not always possible to tell where you branched from in the local reflog in these cases we ll assume it was your default branch if possible otherwise we ll just ask you to pick one In any case you can easily change the base branch by clicking Change base on the notification You can also select No base branch to suppress notifications for your root branch typically your main trunk branch Once the relationship between your branches is correctly set you ll be notified when you are behind any branch in the chain of bases up to your root branch Example If you follow a GitFlow style branching strategy with main and develop branches and your current feature branch was branched off develop you ll not only be notified if your branch is behind develop but also if develop is behind master Finally you can click Show changes on the notification to open the repository view where you can inspect the changes in the branches you are behind The repository view also shows all the remote feature branches ahead in terms of commits of your current branch check out this article to learn more See how others changes compare to your own in VS Code Agnieszka Stec for GitLive・Nov ・ min read vscode devops productivity programming Don t have the GitLive extension installed yet You can find it here and if want to learn more about the latest release check out this blog post |

My Dev Setup A Look into My Software and Hardware IntroductionWelcome to my dev setup overview As a developer having the right tools and equipment can make all the difference in our productivity and workflow In this article I will be sharing the software and hardware that I use to code and how it helps me in my day to day work as a developer From my operating system to my code editor and even my physical setup I will be giving a detailed look into what works for me I hope this article will provide some inspiration and ideas for optimizing your own dev setup Software WSL UbuntuI am currently working on Windows but for development i use the WSL feature of Windows to work with a Linux Subsystem as Ubuntu Terminal and shellInside of Ubuntu i work with ZSH insted of Bash so i can use Themes as the one you see right now Also im working with a tool called Tmux which is for multiplexing terminals Code editorIf you open up VScode inside of a WSl it will open up VScode on Windows but running on Ubuntu Git toolsInside of ZSH i use a git pluginIn addition of that i m working with the GitHub CLI which allows me to do stuff like creating a PR from the terminal ManagementFor Time and Task management i use mainly two Apps The first one is Microsft To Do where i keep track of all my tasks in life form school to private stuff to finances and coding The second one is Forest which is an IOS App For PC you can use the Browser extension With this one i keep track of my time in learning or coding sessions GamingMy Laptop is not the strongest on the market so gaming on it is not really possible For that i have a nice solution Nvidia GeForce Now That works with a normal speed internet quite well Hardware LaptopI have a Lenovo Yoga Laptop which works after years still perfect HP fMy mouseMy keyboardMy Desk matMy Desk stanceMy Headphones ConclusionHere you can see my base setup Comments and and likes would make happy Thanks for reading No affiliate marketing on this post |
