海外TECH DEV Community Why Graph Databases are Essential in Today's Data-Driven World https://dev.to/abdulsamad4068/why-graph-databases-are-essential-in-todays-data-driven-world-2ik Why Graph Databases are Essential in Today x s Data Driven WorldIn the world of databases there are two major types relational and graph Each has its own strengths and weaknesses and it s important to understand when to use one over the other In this post we ll explain the differences between the two and why graph databases like Apache AgeDB are becoming increasingly important for certain use cases Relational DatabasesRelational databases have been around since the s and are the most widely used type of database today They store data in tables where each table has a specific structure or schema that defines the columns and types of data that can be stored Relational databases use SQL Structured Query Language to manage and retrieve data and are known for their ability to handle complex queries and transactions One of the key benefits of relational databases is that they provide a structured way to store and manage data This makes them ideal for use cases where the data has a clear schema and the relationships between different pieces of data are well defined For example a banking application might use a relational database to store customer information account balances and transaction history However relational databases can be less well suited to use cases where the relationships between data points are more complex or where the schema is less well defined This is where graph databases come in Graph DatabasesGraph databases are a relatively new type of database and are designed specifically to handle data with complex relationships They store data as nodes which represent entities and edges which represent relationships between entities and can handle queries that traverse multiple levels of relationships One of the key benefits of graph databases is their ability to handle complex relationships between data points This makes them ideal for use cases where the data is highly interconnected such as social networks recommendation engines and fraud detection systems Another benefit of graph databases is their ability to scale horizontally making them well suited to handling large datasets This is because graph databases can be distributed across multiple servers with each server handling a portion of the data Apache AgeDBIt is an open source graph database that is built as an extension to PostgreSQL This means that it can be used alongside existing relational databases providing a way to handle complex relationships alongside structured data One of the key benefits of Apache AgeDB is its ability to handle both graph and relational data in a single system This means that organizations can use the same database for both structured and unstructured data reducing the need for multiple database systems Another benefit of Apache AgeDB is its support for ACID transactions ACID Atomicity Consistency Isolation Durability transactions are a set of properties that ensure that database transactions are processed reliably This makes Apache AgeDB well suited to use cases where data integrity is critical Real World ScenarioTo illustrate the benefits of graph databases let s consider a real world scenario a social network In a social network users are connected to each other through a complex web of relationships For example User A might be friends with User B who is friends with User C who is friends with User D and so on Storing this data in a relational database would be challenging as the relationships between users are highly interconnected However a graph database could handle this data with ease Each user would be represented as a node and the relationships between users would be represented as edges This would allow for complex queries that traverse multiple levels of relationships such as find all users who are friends of friends of User A Furthermore a graph database like Apache AgeDB could provide additional benefits for a social network For example it could be used to power a recommendation engine which suggests new friends or groups to users based on their existing relationships It could also be used for fraud detection by identifying patterns of suspicious behavior or fake accounts ConclusionIn conclusion both relational and graph databases have their strengths and weaknesses and it s important to choose the right one for your specific use case Relational databases are well suited to structured data with well defined relationships while graph databases are better for highly interconnected data with complex relationships However as data becomes more interconnected and complex graph databases like Apache AgeDB are becoming increasingly important By providing a way to handle both graph and relational data in a single system Apache AgeDB offers a powerful tool for organizations looking to unlock insights from their data 2023-04-25 11:43:56

海外TECH DEV Community Implementing Drag and Drop Upload in React using Supabase https://dev.to/surajondev/implementing-drag-and-drop-upload-in-react-using-supabase-49pb Implementing Drag and Drop Upload in React using Supabase IntroductionIn modern web development implementing drag and drop upload functionality has become a common requirement for many applications Drag and drop allows users to easily upload files by simply dragging them from their local file system and dropping them onto a designated area on the web page In this article we will explore how to implement drag and drop upload functionality in a React application using Supabase It is a powerful backend as a service platform that allows developers to easily build scalable web applications with serverless functions and a PostgreSQL database It will be used for storing the data Along with this we will also use the react drag drop files library for creating the UI for uploading By the end of this article you will have a better understanding of how to implement drag and drop file uploads in your own React applications using Supabase Now let s get started Supabase StorageIt is one of the core functionality of Supbase for storing data It can be any media file including images GIFs and videos It is quite easy to upload files to Supabase There are two types of uploads that Supbase currently offers Here are those Standard Upload It is the traditional upload where you can upload files It is recommended for files of smaller sizes Still you can upload file of up to GB But it does not pause and resume while uploading So here comes the second type of upload Resumable Upload This is the new thing that was recently launched in Launch Week It uses the TUS protocol for creating resumable uploads This method is a recommended approach for uploading large files that may exceed MB in size or in scenarios where network stability is a concern Additionally the resumable upload method is useful if you want to display a progress bar to users during the upload process Resumable Upload is currently in Beta But it will available for usage in the next week as per Supabase So today we are going to use the Standard Upload for uploading files to the Supabase Once it is available I will also demonstrate the use of the resumable uploads using Supabase Now let s build the React application Setting Up ReactWe are going to use CRA for using React You can use also use other React frameworks There won t be much difference Install React with the following command npx create react app standard uploadNote To use the above command and further commands you need to have nodejs pre installed Clean up the unnecessary code Now it s time to install the necessary libraries Here are those supabase supabase js JavaScript library for handling request to Supabase react drag drop files This will handle the drag and drog functionality of our application You can install the above libraries with the below command npm i supabase supabase js react drag drop files Adding a project to SupabaseFirst let s set up our project on the supabase dashboard Visit supabase com then click on Start your project from the right of the nav bar This will take you to the sign in page Enter your details for sign in or sign up as you required After logging in you will be redirected to the project page From here click on New project to create a project On Create new project page you will be asked to enter details of your project Fill in the details of your project Enter the project s name as per your choice For passwords you can use the Generate a password for generating password Select the region that is nearest to the user of your project In the free tier you can create two projects After filling the detail click on Create new project It will take a few minutes to set up the project App jsHere is the code for the App js import React useState from react import createClient from supabase supabase js import FileUploader from react drag drop files const fileTypes MP MVI AVI JPG const supabase createClient process env REACT APP SUPABASE URL process env REACT APP ANON KEY function App const handleChange async file gt const data error await supabase storage from Upload upload file name file if data console log data else console log error return lt FileUploader handleChange file gt handleChange file name video types fileTypes gt export default App The code is quite easy to understand At the top we have imported the necessary libraries After this we have defined a variable for storing the types of files that drag and drop will support Now comes the setting up of the supabase client For this we need the project URL and anon key You can get this from Project Setting and then API Now create a env file in the root of your project Add the details of both as the environment variable REACT APP SUPABASE URL lt Project ULR gt REACT APP ANON KEY lt anon public gt Note Prefix the environment variable s name with NEXT PUBLIC This will be directly loaded to the client Now let s look at the return statement first return lt FileUploader handleChange file gt handleChange file name video types fileTypes gt We have a FileUploader component from the react drag drop files You can add more components to make it look even better but this will works fine Let s look the props of the component handleChange This will trigger when there will be a change such as a user selects or drops files It will trigger a function with the files that are dropped or selected as an argument Eventually calling the handlechange function name This is the name give to the file types This includes the array of file extension that is supported Now let s look at the handleChange function const handleChange async file gt const data error await supabase storage from Upload upload file name file if data console log data else console log error We have an asynchronous function here In this we are calling the supabase for uploading the file Before uploading any file we need to perform the following task in Supabase Project Creating a bucket Bucket is a like a directory in the Supabase where you upload a files It can have subfolder too You can create a new bucket by going to Storage and clicking on New bucket Give a proper name and click on Save for creating the bucket Allowing access to upload It is initially prohibited to upload files other than Supabase dashboard For allowing we have to create a policy for this Go to Storage and then Policies In the Upload section click on New Policy This will open a pop up Click on For full customization Enter a proper name for this policy and select INSERT for allowing uploading article After this click on Review and then Save for saving the policy Now you are ready to upload media through the Supabase library and APIs In the supabase method for uploading media there are two arguments const data error await supabase storage from Upload upload file name file The first argument is the file path of the bucket Inside the Upload bucket you can go further down to save the media It is the path of the bucket The second argument is the file TestingIf you have done all the steps then when you run the React server you will the below output Now you will be able to upload files After successful upload you will able to see the uploaded file in the bucket on your Supabase dashboard ConclusionWe have implemented the drag and drop file uploads in a React application using Supabase Storage a powerful cloud based storage service provided by Supabase We have seen how easy it is to set up a React application with Supabase and drag and drop files library to create a drag and drop file upload component that enables users to upload files to Supabase Storage with ease Supabase Storage is an excellent choice for developers who want to add robust and reliable file upload and sharing functionality to their React applications With its ease of use scalability and advanced features Supabase Storage provides a comprehensive solution for handling all of your file storage and sharing needs I hope this article has helped you in knowing some important features of Supabase i e Storage and the drag and drop features Thank you for reading the article Drag and drop icons used in cover image is created by Yogi Aprelliyanto now in general availability enables IT and Security teams to protect important business and customer data Admins can set up rules to prevent copy and paste screen capture screenshots and video capture screen sharing and printing IT administrators can create an information protection strategy with rules based on  Data source Protect data stored in business critical locations like HR or accounting apps Destination Prevent data from being leaked to social media pasted into emails or screenshottedUser Protect data based on who needs to access it For instance finance team members might need to share or print spreadsheets and documents they are working on But members of other teams do not need this access and to prevent user errors admins can set up rules blocking specific users or groups from leaking this dataAt Google we use ChromeOS data controls to get insight into how data moves through the organization and protect important data while keeping our teams productive and collaborative  ChromeOS data controls allow us to better understand how sensitive data moves through our company This allows us to better focus resources improving security while also helping teams become more productive and effective Nick Peterson Security Engineer Google SecurityProvide all Chromebook users with enhanced camera and microphone privacy controls  Later this year users will be able to manage their camera and microphone settings across the operating system from one place in Settings This way it only takes one click for users to completely turn off their camera or microphone
