海外TECH	reddit	is it normal to be irritated at people who moved here and are frustrated they dont know the language?	https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/comments/13t1vc6/is_it_normal_to_be_irritated_at_people_who_moved/	is it normal to be irritated at people who moved here and are frustrated they dont know the language i feel like a bad judgmental person but here it goes I moved to japan and had about years of on and off studying under my belt I can converse and get everything i need done in japanese with a little help from my dictionary when it comes to fancy legal terms I am at a language school in the one of the advanced classs One thing i noticed in every japanese school ive been in or classes in college was that the upper levels are more quot normal quot ig or serious about the language where the beginner class is always full of weebs who dont really take it seriously but almost always have the goal of moving to japan forever Thats how the beginner class was was mostly people in anime shirts and such But the thing that got me is no one knew any japanese words like ANY Not sumimasen daijoubu gomenasai NOTHING I was like why would you not learn a few words before moving to a country but whatever I heard some of them taking after school about how they have to come in early tomorrow so the teacher can help them catch up I showed them the apps i use and what i do to study And one told me that they wants to be a translator here and the other said they plan to live her forever I was like okay good luck The next day some of the students were gossiping about how this is a bad school because the teachers dont speak english all the time The beginner teachers know english but they mainly focus on immersion teaching since theres alot of non english speaking students From what i experienced the beginner class is pretty standard and slow and steady any other confusions could be easily hammered out through youtube For reference the schools been in session for a month they said theyve learned desu wa desu and are now learning ji as in time which is pretty normal learning pace I sympathize with the learning curve but at the same time i would have learned a but of the language before coming here and saying im gonna live here forever then calling the teachers bad when you dont understand It just irks me ive never talked about this before it reminds me of when i was moved to a more advanced japanese class in college and was partnered with someone who insisted that small tsu was still read as tsu and wouldnt listen to me when i tried to say its not that way And his major was japanese and he wanted to be a translator It just feels like its always the people with low motivation ethic and big egos and poor goal planning that are like im gonna move to japan for the rest of my life and be a translator that have the bad japanese or no japanese when not even me or the more skilled speakers at school intend to stay here forever does anyone else have similar observations submitted by u PastelleMist to r japanlife link comments	2023-05-27 08:24:09
