海外TECH DEV Community The Moq-gate: You Either Die a Hero... https://dev.to/pbouillon/the-moq-gate-you-either-die-a-hero-8 The Moq gate You Either Die a Hero Recently on the r dotnet Reddit community a new post has been published with an alarming title Does Moq in it s latest version extract and send my email to the cloud via SponsorLink Since then there have been a lot of discussions around it but what is this all about Starting from the beginningTo gain a proper understanding of the situation let s begin by providing an overview of Moq itself Moq was is a popular NET mocking library that has accumulated over million downloads as of now For more than years Daniel Cazzulino or ksu has been diligently building and refining it When comparing it to one of its most well known alternatives NSubstitute which has only reached million downloads it is fair to say that Moq is the most widely used mocking library in the NET ecosystem Setting the sceneEarlier this year ksu released a new project named SponsorLink in a blog post named SponsorLink trying something new ish for OSS sustainability The primary objective of this project as outlined by the author is to establish a direct connection between projects and your GitHub account So the goal of SponsorLink is to connect in the most direct way possible your sponsorship with your library author sponsor account And since the place where you spend most of the time enjoying your fellow developers open source projects is inside an IDE I figured that s the first place where you should be reminded that eitherThis approach allows sponsors of a GitHub library through the GitHub Sponsorship program to potentially access additional features receive thank you messages within their IDE or more However an alternative perspective on SponsorLink albeit less flattering is that the project is capable of identifying individuals running a project containing it by transmitting their email addresses to the cloud Worse it doesn t merely capture your email address it also extracts all email addresses present in the git history of your project Depending on your project s lifespan this could involve a significant number of addresses Claims have been made that these addresses are hashed and so forth but the DLL is closed source and obfuscated Given the nature of this project such practices raise suspicions to say the least In the blog post itself people raised concerns about its ethical considerations What went wrongBy now you have likely guessed what went awry A couple of days ago kzu psubmitted a Pull Request announcing that SponsorLink was now integrated into Moq thereby harvesting email addresses of the developers utilizing it in their projects Add SponsorLink support kzu posted on Aug See and Let s thank everyone who supports the project View on GitHub This Pull Request received a largely negative reception and prompted a significant number of projects to replace Moq within their codebases Shortly after various issues raising privacy concerns has been opened Privacy issues with SponsorLink starting from version GeorgDangl posted on Aug There s a related discussion on Reddit It seems that starting from version SponsorLink is included This is a closed source project provided as a dll with obfuscated code which seems to at least scan local data git config and sends the hashed email of the current developer to a cloud service The scanning is provided as a NET analyzer tool which runs during the build There is no option to disable this I can understand the reasoning behind it but this is honestly pretty scary from a privacy standpoint Any chance this can be reverted View on GitHub What now This update has some questionable points such as collecting the user s data by default without an opt in out option defying GDPR or adding closed source and obfuscated add on without any consent of the community For now it seems that people are running away from it and companies are blocking the library Some are also reporting the version which introduced SponsorLink However it s important to also take into account the perspective of the maintainer especially given the challenging landscape many open source maintainers face in sustaining their projects Open source maintainers often struggle to find sustainable ways of supporting their work In a new issue the maintainer of Moq expresses the desire to gather feedback on how their Open Source projects could receive better support SponsorLink and supporting OSS more broadly kzu posted on Aug Trying to aggregate the various issues into one to collect feedback I invite everyone to read the SponsorLink announcement to understand the intention behind it No nefarious purpose I promise With that in mind I m obviously open to suggestions that help achieve both your goals and mine NOTE removes SponsorLink since it breaks MacOS Linux restore I ll take the opportunity to collect more feedback The underlying issue still needs addressing IMHO View on GitHub Despite the apparent goodwill SponsorLink remains included in Moq as of now and I think its reputation permanently damaged as the implicit trust most people people had in it has been broken If you are more of a listener than a reader check out elfocrash video on the subject who did a great job summarizing everything I hope that you learnt something useful there Pierre BouillonFollow Software Engineer Privacy Advocate Coffee Lover Photo by Jason Blackeye on Unsplash 2023-08-09 15:50:36

海外TECH Engadget The best tablets for 2023 https://www.engadget.com/best-tablets-150026056.html?src=rss The best tablets for Following the release of the Apple iPad Air and Samsung s Galaxy Tab S line last year there hasn t been a ton of movement in the tablet world Lenovo announced refreshed versions of the Tab P and P Pro featuring updated internals and even an inch OLED display with a Hz refresh rate on the Pro Apple s latest tablet is the revamped inch iPad but at it s more of an upgrade from rather than alternative for the less expensive inch iPad While there haven t been a ton of groundbreaking releases as of late you still have a bunch of great tablets to choose from if you re in the market for a new one or are looking for a laptop replacement Let s break down what you should consider before deciding on a new device and our current top picks for the best tablets nbsp Which OS is right for me Before you even start looking at specific devices consider how your new tablet will fit in with the gadgets you already own and how you plan to use it For example if everyone in your house uses Macs and iPhones it probably doesn t make a lot of sense to buy an Android tablet even if you ve been tempted by the massive inch screen on the new Galaxy Tab S Ultra This goes double for anyone with an extensive library of purchased videos and music that might be harder to access after switching platforms Another consideration is the kind of work you ll be doing That s because while most modern tablets are adept at browsing websites or playing games some operating systems like iPadOS and Windows are better designed to support multitasking and productivity than Android or even Chrome OS It s a similar situation for software because while most popular apps and games are available on both Apple s App Store and Google s Play Store more specialized software may only have proper support on desktop platforms like Windows or macOS What size screen should I get Figuring out the best screen size for you will also be related to the kind of work or play you intend to do Larger displays make it much easier to view two apps side by side and big screens also deliver a more immersive movie viewing experience But at the same time the larger the tablet the less likely you re going to want to move it around That means you re not only going to want to take stock of your workspace i e if you have a desk or instead plan to work from a couch or even your bed you re also going to want to think about how the device will fit into your everyday routine or commute if you have one Potential accessoriesFinally you ll want to consider any add ons or accessories you re planning to use which can range from detachable keyboards to things like external mics or a stylus The good news is that many of the best tablets nowadays offer some kind of keyboard accessory which allows the device to function more like a in instead of simply being a content consumption device Some tablets also feature things like microSD card slots that support expandable storage or optional G or G connectivity which can be a real boon to frequent travelers And if you re planning to use the tablet mainly for work you might want to grab a USB hub for connecting all your favorite peripherals How we testWhen evaluating different tablets there are a few important things we look for above all else solid performance a good screen and long battery life For performance we run a handful of synthetic tests like Geekbench while also performing a number of real world use cases such as editing photos and playing games And with tablets often serving as hybrid devices we also consider how easy it is to multitask and switch quickly between various apps The more responsive a device feels the better Because a tablet s display is such a critical component we also view a wide range of content to gauge things like brightness color gamut and dynamic range It s important to take into account the difference between various panel types like OLED which typically produce richer colors and excellent contrast but may not be as bright as a mini LED display Recently refresh rate has become an increasingly important spec as Hz and Hz screens can make scrolling smoother and graphics appear sharper in games We also consider a tablet s design including things like size weight and water resistance its connectivity WiFi Bluetooth NFC G et cetera and special features like stylus support or the ability to serve as a secondary display That s because while tablets were often viewed as content consumption devices in the past higher end devices like the Surface Pro and iPad Pro are more than capable of replacing a laptop for a lot of people Finally we test battery life by running our standard local video rundown test which involves playing a single video on a loop from percent until it runs out of juice Ideally a tablet should be able to last an entire working day but longer runtimes are always welcome Best tablet overall Apple iPad ProPowered by the same Apple M chips you get in MacBooks the iPad Pro is the best iPad and one of the most well built tablets you can buy today It s available in two sizes and inches and works with a range of accessories including the Apple Pencil and the extremely useful but pricey Magic Keyboard And thanks to their Hz ProMotion mini LED displays the iPad Pro s screen boasts strong brightness and fluid visuals regardless of whether you re watching a movie or creating a slideshow presentation Recent versions of iPadOS have also made Apple s most premium tablet a much more capable work device with the addition of new sidebars for quickly switching between apps a more powerful desktop like UI for Safari and various new toolbars throughout The main downside is that starting at for a base inch model with GB of storage Apple s iPad Pros aren t cheap and that s before you tack on any extras like cellular connectivity or a keyboard But considering there s a good chance the latest iPad Pro is more powerful than your current laptop there isn t really anything you can throw at Apple s top of the line tablet it can t handle One final note is that if you like the iPad Pro but want something a bit more affordable there s also the fifth gen iPad Air This one is powered by the M chipset but it has Apple Pencil support and optional G connectivity And with a inch screen it s basically the same size as the smaller iPad Pro too The main difference is that the iPad Air s display isn t quite as bright and doesn t support a Hz refresh rate But if you re ok with that the th gen iPad Air is essentially an iPad Pro with a less fancy screen that starts at instead of Display inch or inch mini LED Liquid Retina panel with Android users Samsung Galaxy Tab SAvailable in three sizes an and a huge inch model Samsung s Galaxy Tab S line has the right sized screen for practically any need And while Android typically isn t quite as accommodating to productivity as Windows or iPadOS Samsung s Dex mode offers a desktop like UI complete with multi window support and a taskbar for potent multitasking Samsung s tablet displays are also some of the best in the business with support for Hz refresh rates and vibrant colors from their OLED panels And unlike Samsung s flagship phone line the Galaxy Tab S still comes with microSD card support though sadly Samsung couldn t seem to find room for a dedicated headphone jack The tablet comes with an S pen stylus as well and you get a choice of three different covers a simple folio a keyboard cover and a keyboard cover with a built in touchpad so you can choose the right accessory for your needs Truly great Android tablets are few and far between and Google recently stepped back into the ring with its own Pixel Tablet While it s not compelling enough as a tablet to knock the Galaxy Tab S out of our top spot it could be an intriguing option for those that want a device that can be used as both a tablet and a smart display Admittedly it shines as the latter which makes it a good thing that Google includes the base in the price There s also an case you can get for the Pixel Tablet which adds a very useful kickstand that you can use whenever you don t want to dock the device but still want to prop it up We ll also note that the latest Galaxy Tab S tablets have been announced and will be widely available soon There are a lot of similarities between the S series and the S slabs but Samsung added improved dust and water resistance to this year s models beautiful display with a smooth Hz refresh rate and improved stereo speakers while the inclusion of an IR facial recognition camera allows you to log in to the system in a snap Another nice bonus is that unlike a lot of tablets the Surface Pro s SSD is user accessible allowing you to upgrade its storage yourself whenever you want And thanks to improvements in Windows the Surface Pro is better improved cameras in front and back and double the base storage GB up from GB And just like its more expensive siblings this budget tablet is available in a WiFi only model or with optional G LTE most comfortable with We recommend taking stock of the gadgets you already have ーdo you live in the Apple ecosystem already An iPad might be best for you then Do you have a Samsung phone If so a Galaxy Tab will likely be the most convenient choice There is no one quot best brand quot for tablets you ll find good options made by companies including Apple Google Samsung Microsoft and Amazon Can a tablet replace a laptop It s possible for a tablet to replace a laptop but you ll need a few accessories to truly make the experience as close as possible to that of a traditional notebook A keyboard is a must be it a keyboard case or a Bluetooth accessory that you keep with you Some keyboard cases like apple s Magic Keyboard for the iPad have a built in trackpad which will be more ergonomic than tapping on your tablet s screen for input Additionally you could go one step further and use a wireless mouse that connects via Bluetooth to your tablet If you re primarily looking for a tablet to replace your laptop consider buying a in laptop since those systems typically consist of high powered tablets that are designed to work well with and without keyboards This article GCP Cloud Blog Introducing new capabilities in Workforce Identity Federation to help you effectively manage identity and access to Google Cloud https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/identity-security/workforce-identity-federation-now-can-help-simplify-access-to-google-cloud/ Introducing new capabilities in Workforce Identity Federation to help you effectively manage identity and access to Google CloudWe are excited to announce new security features management options and product integrations for Workforce Identity Federation our Identity and Access Management offering that allows you to rapidly onboard user identities from external identity providers IdPs for direct secure access to Google Cloud services and resources  Workforce Identity Federation is built on an identity federation approach instead of Directory Synchronization an option which can simplify identity lifecycle management for the cloud by leveraging your existing identity systems We are using Workforce Identity Federation to provide flexible workforce access for our Google Cloud environment Before using Workforce Identity if we wanted to grant user level access to our data warehouse in BigQuery we had to synchronize our user directory with Google Cloud and have users log into Google Cloud…Workforce Identity Federation enabled us to grant individual fine grained user level access to BigQuery using our existing identity provider without requiring us to onboard our users to Google Cloud This saved us significant administrative overhead Ming Ng managing director and technology fellow Goldman SachsGoldman Sachs has already empowered their users by enabling access to BigQuery using Workforce Identity Federation Ming Ng managing director and technology fellow at Goldman Sachs explained why Goldman Sachs started using Workforce Identity Federation “We are using Workforce Identity Federation to provide flexible workforce access for our Google Cloud environment Before using Workforce Identity if we wanted to grant user level access to our data warehouse in BigQuery we had to synchronize our user directory with Google Cloud and have users log into Google Cloud said Ng “Workforce Identity Federation enabled us to grant individual fine grained user level access to BigQuery using our existing identity provider without requiring us to onboard our users to Google Cloud This saved us significant administrative overhead Here s what s new in Workforce Identity Federation New security and management capabilitiesFor OpenID Connect OIDC providers Workforce Identity Federation now supports authorization code flow and implicit flow Authorization code flow is considered to be more secure because tokens are returned from the IdP in a separate secure backend transaction directly from the IdP to Google Cloud after the user has been authenticated As a result code flow transactions support more claims to use for attribute mapping and attribute conditions Please see our documentation for details Customers who use a SAML based identity provider are now able to leverage SAML token encryption to encrypt the SAML assertions When configured Workforce Identity Federation will encrypt the SAML assertions using the public key from the IdP stored certificate Encrypting SAML assertions can protect confidential user information and adds an extra layer of security to Workforce Identity Federation For a step by step guide to enable your SAML IdP encrypted SAML assertions to be accepted by Workforce Identity Federation please see our documentation In addition to Google Cloud console access Workforce Identity Federation now supports programmatic access to Google Cloud services and resources through the API and CLI We added browser based sign in with the gcloud CLI to enable you to create a sign in configuration file and then either reference the file in calls to gcloud auth login or activate it so that it is used by default We have documented detailed configuration steps to help you get started Expanding Workforce Identity Federation support to new products We continue to expand the list of Google Cloud products that support Workforce Identity Federation Updates include Google Kubernetes Engine GKE customers are able to use the identities from an OIDC or SAML supported external identity provider to manage their GKE environments Chroniclesupports Service Provider Initiated SAML SSO for users With this capability users can navigate directly to Chronicle Chronicle issues a request through Workforce identity federation to the third party IdP Cloud Storage supports Workforce Identity Federation customers to use their third party IdP for authentication to access the major GCS public APIs and console experiences Cloud Billing now enables customers using Workforce Identity Federated to access key billing information including the cost overview page cost management cost optimization and account management via the federated console To see all the new Google Cloud services that support Workforce Identity Federation please refer to our documentation We are excited to share that Goldman Sachs will be presenting at Google Cloud Next to discuss their use of Workforce Identity Federation Please join us at “How Goldman Sachs achieved identity first security using Google Cloud to hear what they have been able to accomplish  You can learn more about Workforce Identity Federation and get started by visiting our webpage and watching this video 2023-08-09 16:00:00
GCP Cloud Blog Commonly asked questions about our recently launched Photorealistic 3D Tiles https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/maps-platform/commonly-asked-questions-about-our-recently-launched-photorealistic-3d-tiles/ Commonly asked questions about our recently launched Photorealistic D TilesEditor s Note  Since the launch of our Experimental Photorealistic D Tilesat I O in May we ve been thrilled to see all of the developer excitement and demos featuring the product We ve also received a lot of questions from developers Together with Lisa Bos Senior Product Manager at Cesium we re highlighting the most commonly asked questions we ve received from developers   Why is the quota so low Can I get more quota Danbi Google Maps Platform products that are in the Experimental phase such as the Photorealistic D Tiles will often have lower default daily quota limits per project During this phase we re testing out your response based on the use cases you re trying out We know now that the quota limit on the individual tile requests have been limiting for some of you so we re re thinking these limits for the next launch stage Preview Is it free to use Danbi Google Maps Platform products that are in the Experimental phase such as Photorealistic D Tiles are free to use during the Experimental phase but with the limited quota cap as mentioned above The purpose of this launch phase is to gather feedback from the developer community prior to previewing the product Your feedback demos questions and public issue trackers are very important to us so please keep the feedback coming  However during Preview we generally share product pricing information and customers will be billed at a discount during this launch stage If you ve already set up your billing account no further action is necessary your API key will continue to work This is to give you time to adjust your products and usage before we move out of Preview and into General Availability  Lisa Developers will want to apply a thoughtful strategy for managing Map Tiles API sessions and requests During the Preview launch stage Cesium will provide guidance to help you understand how implementation choices impact your data usage when using CesiumJS and our other runtimes When that becomes available we ll let you know on our community forum Why do we need to attribute the map and what attributions are required Danbi We re really energized by the number of developers that have been testing out the product and know that it s easy to forget about proper attribution in that excitement We get it However attribution is part of the use agreement in our Terms of Service and the Map Tiles API Policies and generally considered standard cartographic practice  An example of brand attribution and data attributionThere are two types of important attributions brand attribution and data attribution Brand attribution requires you to display the Google logo whenever you display our maps or imagery in your visualization Data attribution requires you to display the data providers that the imagery is sourced from As you have seen in our own Google Maps applications our imagery is sourced by Google as well as other providers In your visualizations as your user moves around the map the API will send updated data attribution strings to the renderer based on what s in the viewport  We know that the guidelines around how to attribute can be unsuitable for some of your use cases especially where it might impact your user experience that isn t a standard or traditional map visualization and more of a cinematic experience To address these issues we ll provide some additional guidance on alternative attribution methods when we move to Preview  Lisa Each of Cesium s runtimes CesiumJS Cesium for Unity Cesium for Unreal and Cesium for Omniverse provide a way to display logos and data attribution If you re working with CesiumJS the method to add a logo is documented here By default the logo will be added in the lower left and the Data attribution link will be shown to its right You can use CSS to change the logo and attribution placement and appearance   Can the street level geometry be more refined  Danbi Generally speaking the D mesh model is generated procedurally using photogrammetric methods with flat imagery There s a lot more complex math to it but this results in less precise modeling of the real world at the pedestrian scale For example you may see parked cars or awnings melted into the mesh or sometimes tree canopies get modeled as floating objects We d love to continue hearing your feedback on how to improve the Photorealistic D Tiles  Can I use it for precise measurements Can I get the elevation info or other attribution Danbi The Photorealistic D Tiles are not considered survey grade at this time The original intent of the product is to power immersive visualizations rather than support spatial analysis or model measurements Also note that programmatically reading and recording measurements heights distances elevations etc from our D imagery is considered derivative and is prohibited For details in addition to our Terms of Service please read our Policies page on “Pre Fetching Caching or Storage of Content where we explicitly state that any “image analysis machine interpretation object detection identification geodata extraction or resale offline uses including any of the above based off of our imagery data is not allowed  Lisa Developers can use Cesium to combine the current release of Photorealistic D Tiles with other data to support some use cases like those Danbi described above In this example a precise building model is visualized in context provided by Photorealistic D Tiles Your own metadata can also be added to and visualized with Cesium apps Check out this Cesium Stories tutorial for a simple example Can we use Cesium World Terrain with Google s Photorealistic D Tiles Danbi Any geodata that may be considered survey grade or have hyper local precision and alignment accuracy will exhibit some offset from our Photorealistic D Tiles as it is currently based off of a Google s datum That is another reason why today it is not considered survey grade However we re seeking feedback from the developer community on how important standard datum alignment is for your use cases  Lisa Due to the differences in the reference system used by Photorealistic D Tiles and Cesium World Terrain at this time we don t recommend you use them together And you shouldn t need to You can hide the globe Cesium World Terrain as shown in this example Please continue to tag us at GMapsPlatform on Twitter GoogleMapsPlatform on YouTube or use GoogleMapsPlatform on other channels as you explore more use cases with Photorealistic D Tiles and Cesium And let us know if you d like to be featured in our Demo
