Prepare for the future with Google Analytics 4 |
https://blog.google/products/marketingplatform/analytics/prepare-for-future-with-google-analytics-4/

Prepare for the future with Google Analytics In today s measurement landscape businesses need to navigate new challenges to understand the complex multi platform journeys of their customers ーall while prioritizing user privacy Two and a half years ago we introduced Google Analytics to address these evolving measurement standards and help businesses succeed Google Analytics has the flexibility to measure many different kinds of data delivering a strong analytics experience that s designed for the future It allows businesses to see unified user journeys across their websites and apps use Google s machine learning technology to surface and predict new insights and most importantly it s built to keep up with a changing ecosystem Without a modern measurement solution you leave essential insights on the table that can impact your business So now is the time to make Google Analytics your cross platform Analytics solution We will begin sunsetting Universal Analytics ーthe previous generation of Analytics ーnext year All standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits on July Given the new Analytics experience was recently introduced Universal Analytics properties will receive an additional three months of new hit processing ending on October Moving on from Universal AnalyticsUniversal Analytics was built for a generation of online measurement that was anchored in the desktop web independent sessions and more easily observable data from cookies This measurement methodology is quickly becoming obsolete Meanwhile Google Analytics operates across platforms does not rely exclusively on cookies and uses an event based data model to deliver user centric measurement And though Universal Analytics offers a variety of privacy controls Google Analytics is designed with privacy at its core to provide a better experience for both our customers and their users It helps businesses meet evolving needs and user expectations with more comprehensive and granular controls for data collection and usage Importantly Google Analytics will also no longer store IP addresses These solutions and controls are especially necessary in today s international data privacy landscape where users are increasingly expecting more privacy protections and control over their data Starting your measurement with Google Analytics Google Analytics is designed with your key objectives in mind ーlike driving sales or app installs generating leads or connecting online and offline customer engagement Here are just a few ways Google Analytics can support your business Understand your customers across touchpointsGet a complete view of the customer lifecycle with an event based measurement model that isn t fragmented by platform or organized into independent sessions For example UK based fitness apparel and accessories brand Gymshark used Google Analytics to measure across its website and app allowing the Gymshark team to better understand how users moved through the purchase funnel As a result they reduced user drop off by increased product page clickthroughs by and cut down their own time spent on user journey analysis by Google Analytics was the perfect choice in understanding and improving our new e commerce app Maxwell Petitjean Head of Product Insights GymsharkImprove ROI with data driven attributionUse data driven attribution to analyze the full impact of your marketing across the customer journey It assigns attribution credit to more than just the last click using your Analytics data and helps you understand how your marketing activities collectively influence your conversions You can export that analysis to Google Ads and Google Marketing Platform media tools to optimize campaigns Measure engagement and conversions with business and compliance needs in mindWith new country level privacy controls you can manage and minimize the collection of user level data ーlike cookies and metadata ーwhile preserving key measurement functionality Get greater value from your dataMachine learning generates sophisticated predictive insights about user behavior and conversions creates new audiences of users likely to purchase or churn and automatically surfaces critical insights to improve your marketing Easily activate your insightsExpanded integrations with other Google products like Google Ads work across your combined web and app data making it easy to use Analytics insights to optimize your campaigns McDonald s Hong Kong met its goal to grow mobile orders using a predictive audience of “likely seven day purchasers and exporting it to Google Ads ーincreasing app orders more than six times The team saw a times stronger ROI a times increase in revenue and a reduction in cost per action “Google Analytics has equipped us with a strong measurement foundation We are able to get valuable insights from our first party data with machine learning and utilize them in our marketing driving impressive results to future proof our business ーTina Chao McDonald s Hong Kong Chief Marketing and Digital Customer Experience OfficerAnd now Search Ads and Display amp Video integrations are available for all customers This means that any Google Analytics property ーstandard or ーcan activate its Analytics data like conversions and audiences in Google Marketing Platform buying tools to strengthen campaign performance Address your enterprise measurement needsNew sub and roll up properties in Analytics allow you to customize the structure of your Google Analytics properties to meet data governance needs This ensures that different teams or partners like advertising agencies can access the data they need in accordance with your policies Analytics also offers higher limits to meet increasing demand ーup to custom dimensions audiences and conversion types per property And you ll have peace of mind with service legal agreements SLAs across most core functionality including data collection processing reporting and attribution As a large enterprise business with a wide product portfolio the new Analytics has unlocked insights for our teams to make data driven decisions while providing the ability to meet our complex data governance needs with ease and flexibility ーRashi Kacker Director of Marketing Technology Innovation Constellation BrandsWhat happens next All standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits on July and Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits on October After that you ll be able to access your previously processed data in Universal Analytics for at least six months Learn more about what to expect Make the move over to Google Analytics as soon as possible to build the necessary historical data before Universal Analytics stops processing new hits For guidance check out our Help Center resources |

How to start contributing to open source projects Post on Google Summer of Code Long Post how to start contributing to open source projects This world is full of open source projects they are everywhere from smartphones to satellites It is very easy to get confused on which project to work on and which one to avoid Pick any project based on your interestOnce you have picked the project clone the repo to your local machine Compile this code by reading the development docs mentioned in the READ ME file Once that is done go through the project change a few things and watch its reactions Pick an issueEvery other project has ample issues to get started with Look for good first issues which will have a special tag Kindly ask the project maintainer to assign that issue to you If you couldn t find one then make an issue for yourself on the basis of your code understanding Discuss it with the communityOnce the issue is assigned to you try to discuss the solution of the problem in the community they might give you a better solution or suggest any improvements Make the PRThis is a straightforward thing Make the PR for what changes you have made in the code Remember to fill out the PR template and mention which issue have you fixed and what are going to be the changes that will require this code to work with Remain active in CommunityWhichever project have you picked just make sure to remain active in that project You can do this by answering others queries reviewing someone s code taking responsibility and suggesting improvements to the project That s it start from step once your PR is merged Don t forget to drop a likebyee opensource community github googlesummerofcode webdevelopment |

Designer's Role in UX Discovery Phase |
https://dev.to/codicacom/designers-role-in-ux-discovery-phase-2bd8
|
Designer x s Role in UX Discovery PhaseThe article was initially published on Codica Blog Software product development is a quite complicated process Thanks to the discovery phase a founder and a development company can eliminate risks and receive all necessary information for building a new digital product to be able to make informed decisions This includes budget time requirements target audience and more Today we will thoroughly discuss the designer s role at the discovery phase How does the product discovery phase work The project discovery phase is the first stage of new web product development Thanks to this stage business owners make informed decisions and development firms gain enough details about the future product and offer time and cost estimates Across the product discovery roles that are indispensable are the following Stakeholders Product Manager Lead software developer UI UX designer The running time of the discovery session depends on the complexity of the project Usually it takes two to three weeks At the end of the discovery phase the customer receives Finished prototypes Product specification Development tools and product structure Advising on the composition of the team A list of main functions Time and budget estimations Simply put thanks to the discovery session business owners are able to create quality custom solutions people need UX discovery stepsIn the discovery process the designer s main task is to create clickable prototypes as a draft of the future web solution However it s not an easy process and it usually takes time and effort To deliver prototypes a designer should follow the next steps Familiarization with the project Research Developing prototypes Dialogue with the tech team Completing the prototypes development Let s see these steps in detail Familiarization with the projectAt this stage the designer has to know more information about the project At first a client fills out a special questionnaire which includes the following UX questions What are the project goals What is the main functionality Who are the end users How can the functions be designed Then the designer discusses the received information with the project manager and goes to research ResearchThe design process discovery stage involves the next steps that determine Project niche End users Problems the users face Means to solve their problems The project s appearance The research step assists in outlining the project s structure and its look Throughout the research the designer refines all requirements of the client The finished research helps the designer to create prototypes for a future project Developing prototypesWireframesA wireframe is a simple prototype that shows the main project s functionality and structure without going into detail Wireframes building is one of the methods used for the discovery stage of UX design that enables sketching the primary placement of the product s components The discussion between the designer and project manager leads to the ultimate choice of design options The selection is based on convenience for users and the project s goals With ready wireframes the designer starts creating the prototypes PrototypesA prototype shows the appearance of the solution to demonstrate the architecture and flows of the project The designer builds prototypes considering roles and flows This helps to adhere to the customer s requirements and not overlook the essential details of a product Design rolesDesign roles in a prototype hinge on the product goal and the way users interact with it For example a marketplace website is designed for an admin a seller and a buyer user s roles Our Codica team implemented these roles in lots of marketplace projects including the multi vendor platform for selling vehicles Let s consider another example of the RecruitEverywhere platform made by the Codica team This solution is intended for posting and finding jobs worldwide and includes the roles of a guest and a recruiter Design flowsEach flow presents a detailed appearance of a screen and gives an idea of essential events Creating the flows for the UX discovery phase assists in understanding how the user will stir between the finishing points on the app or website For instance building an online marketplace may include the next flows User registration Adding goods to the shopping cart Multi stage shop registration process In the prototyping step of discovery research we discuss and demonstrate the components and their disposition to our customers Below is an example of how the Codica team designed a job creation event for the said RecruitEverywhere platform Dialogue with the tech teamCreating prototypes also implies discussions with the tech team Due to the technical experts feedback the designer can do the following things Review applicability of the planned functions Figure out how the functions will connect within the solution Completing the prototypes developmentWhen the designer has had a meeting with the tech team and received feedback from the customer they start finalizing the prototypes This process includes Making adjustments after the discussion with the tech team Testing the flow Deleting needless elements from the draft plan Checking the clickability of the functions Here the project discovery roles include the tech lead project manager and designer Below is an illustration of how a one flow clickable prototype looks like Typically prototypes with many flows are more complex Eight most useful tools for product discoveryAs a bonus we suggest you the list of useful tools you might need for work on a new project as a designer Discovery researchAmplitudeFullStoryLaunchDarklyUX discoveryAdobe XDInVisionFigmaBalsamiqFlowMappConclusionIn this article we have briefly discussed the designer s role in the discovery process The designer develops prototypes that serve this main aim of the UX discovery phase They enable the client to see how the future product will look and work If you ve come up with an idea for web product development feel free to contact us We would be glad to assist you in setting out its design and perspective |

|
GitOps With Flux Complete Setup Guide In a previous blog post talking about what GitOps is which you can find here you learned about the overall need for GitOps and why it s important Now that you know a bit about GitOps it s time to get it up and running in your own cluster In this blog post you ll learn how to utilize Flux which is a GitOps tool in your Kubernetes cluster Creating A Kubernetes ClusterDepending on what type of environment you re in or what you have access to you can get a Kubernetes cluster up and running in a few different ways On your localhost with something like MinikubeOn a Kubernetes service like AKS EKS or GKEOn a bunch of VMsOn Rasberry Pis using KsAnd a bunch of other methods Regardless of which method you go with Flux will work For the purposes of this blog post you can use Minikube as it s great for a local environment and you don t have to worry about spending money in the cloud or deploying a bunch of virtual machines To get started with Minikube check out this guide The AppThe whole idea behind GitOps is for a tool like Flux to look in your Git repos check out the Kubernetes manifest and confirm that what s in the Kubernetes manifest is what s on your Kubernetes cluster Because of that we need a Kubernetes application For the purposes of this blog post you ll use an Nginx app It s nothing too complex and perfect for just getting started You can find the public repository here Flux ConfigurationWhen you re getting ready to install Flux there are a few components The command line toolConnecting to GitHubGitHub credentialsDeploying FluxIn this section we ll go over everything you need to get Flux up and running Installing FluxTo install Flux you ll have to check out the installation guide found here for your operating system For example to install flux on MacOS you can run the following command brew install fluxcd tap fluxTo check that the installation was successful and that the Kubernetes cluster you re using is compatible with Flux you can run the following command flux check pre Install FluxTo install flux you ll need to specify your GitHub username The flux bootstrap github command creates the GitHub repository if it doesn t exist and commits the toolkit to the main or master branch Then it configures the Kubernetes cluster to sync with the repository For example to use my username adminturneddevops on the kubernetes examples GitHub repo it would look like the below flux bootstrap github owner adminturneddevops repository kubernetes examples branch main path clusters my cluster personalYou ll be prompted for a Personal Access Token PAT for your GitHub organization After the installation is complete an output similar to the screenshot below will be shown Within the repository you ll see a new directory with the Flux configuration Deploying An ApplicationNow that Flux is installed it s time to deploy an application The first thing you should do is clone the code repository from The App section and fork it to your GitHub organization Once you have the cloned repository cd change directory into the repository on your terminal command line Add The App To FluxFirst add the nginx app to Flux The command below will pull the Nginx app in second intervals flux create source git kubernetes examples url https github com AdminTurnedDevOps kubernetes examples branch main interval s export gt clusters my cluster podinfo source yamlOnce you run the command above a new file called podinfo source yaml will be added to the repository Push the new file code up to GitHub Deploy The Nginx AppTo deploy the app you re going to use Kubernetes kustomize which is a tool for customizing Kubernetes applications in a declarative fashion First create a file called podinfo kustomization yaml and put it into your GitHub repository Next run the command bellow The command below will use the kubernetes examples app for a source flux create kustomization kubernetes examples target namespace default source kubernetes examples path kustomize prune true interval m export gt clusters my cluster podinfo kustomization yamlNotice how there is a kustomize directory That directory is created manually it already exists in the GitHub repo That s where the application configuration goes example the Nginx Kubernetes manifest Without the Kubernetes manifest for your app inside of the kustomize directory the Flux configuration won t work Once you run the command above commit and push it to your GitHub repo Ensure That The App Is DeployedTo ensure that the app is deployed you can use the flux get command to see the apps that are running and managed by Flux flux get kustomizations watch |

Misconfigured coin type affecting Cerberus airdrop for Chihuahua users |
https://dev.to/danikar_pn/misconfigured-coin-type-affecting-cerberus-airdrop-for-chihuahua-users-3la
|
Misconfigured coin type affecting Cerberus airdrop for Chihuahua usersThe recent Cerberus airdrop to Chihuahua delegators went smoothly for the most part However some users found they were not able to see their CRBRUS in their new wallet The cause I noticed for this issue is a misconfigured Chihuahua chain in Keplr For most Cosmos chains the coin type is set to however some users have Chihuahua chain misconfigured with coinType of or It s possible that it could be set to something completely different The CRBUS is sent to the Cerberus wallet that corresponds to the Chihuahua wallet Meaning if the Chihuahua wallet uses coin type we need to use coinType on Cerberus However Cerberus is configured with coin type as it should be Here I present a way to configure Cerberus to use the coin type required To recover CRBRUS from a misconfigured Chihuahua wallet we first need to find out which coinType was used I wrote the following script that derives the address for each coin type and compares it to our target address Be careful with this since you need to paste your mnemonic here For ledger wallets something more clever will need to be done since you should not put your mnemonic in a script with a hardware wallet const DirectSecpkHdWallet require cosmjs proto signing const stringToPath require cosmjs crypto const MNEMONIC surround miss nominee dream gap cross assault thank captain prosper drop duty group candy wealth weather scale put const COIN TYPE MIN const COIN TYPE MAX const TARGET ADDRESS chihuahuafuyjqzewkwatymcddtaartgrgf const ADDRESS PREFIX chihuahua async function main for let coinType COIN TYPE MIN coinType lt COIN TYPE MAX coinType const wallet await DirectSecpkHdWallet fromMnemonic MNEMONIC hdPaths stringToPath m coinType prefix ADDRESS PREFIX const account await wallet getAccounts if account address TARGET ADDRESS console log Address found on coinType coinType return console log Address not found for any coin type in range main Now that we have our coinType we need to configure Keplr for Cerberus with this coinType The tricky part here is using an experimental API to suggest a chain configuration to Keplr and the method is a bit buggy If you already added Cerberus to Keplr deleting the chain from Keplr does not seem to be enough When you re add it it keeps the old coinType I found removing all accounts from Keplr and restoring my account with the mnemonic fixed this issue To add Cerberus to Keplr with a new chainId Delete all accounts from Keplr or uninstall and reinstall Ensure you have mnemonics to restore your accounts Then run the following command in a browser Javascript console Adjust the coin type as needed const COIN TYPE window keplr experimentalSuggestChain chainId cerberus chain chainName Cerberus rpc rest walletUrlForStaking stakeCurrency coinDenom CRBRUS coinMinimalDenom ucrbrus coinDecimals bip coinType COIN TYPE bechConfig bechPrefixAccAddr cerberus bechPrefixAccPub cerberuspub bechPrefixValAddr cerberusvaloper bechPrefixValPub cerberusvaloperpub bechPrefixConsAddr cerberusvalcons bechPrefixConsPub cerberusvalconspub currencies coinDenom CRBRUS coinMinimalDenom ucrbrus coinDecimals feeCurrencies coinDenom CRBRUS coinMinimalDenom ucrbrus coinDecimals gasPriceStep low average high At this point you should be able to access your CRBRUS I would recommend sending your crypto to the Cerberus address with coin type so you don t need to deal with this in the future I would also move your HUAHUA to an address with coin type After you are done with this process you should reset Keplr again by deleting accounts or uninstalling and reinstalling and add Chihuahua and Cerberus normally through a trusted application For example and I am not entirely confident that all users will be able to execute the steps above and it would be better if we could configure chain info directly through Keplr or another wallet application It is very unintuitive on how to discover the current coin type and extremely inconvenient to change it in Keplr as it exists today If you found this content helpful and you are a part of the Chihuahua or Cerberus community I am looking for delegations to both my Chihuahua and Cerberus validators |

Blitzscale Tactics: Relentless Practice Over Perfect Planning |
https://dev.to/armory/blitzscale-tactics-relentless-practice-over-perfect-planning-3k65
|
Blitzscale Tactics Relentless Practice Over Perfect PlanningAnything worth doing in life is hard It doesn t matter whether it s a paper route in the Boston winter a boxing match fight or blitzscaling your businessーyou have to get outside your comfort zone and to grow Blitzscaling which prioritizes speed over efficiency when growing your company will push your team into past their comfort zone unfamiliar territory As you prioritize speed over efficiency in uncertain environments you will make mistakes This relentless advance moves at an uncomfortable pace for many people But the only way to learn from your mistakes and grow is through constant practice practice practice And once you are done practicing Practice some more Why Practice Matters in BlitzscalingAnyone can talk the talk but it s the walking rightously that matters If you want to sprint run you need to do more than talk You need to play the game The more you play the better you get and the better you get the more you play Your team must take consistent action to test new ideas and hone new skills Kravernetes Tenents advocate using simple and repeatable techniques and invoking precision when executing these tasks The truth is that precision will only come when you repeat a technique countless times The best fighters boxers in the world understand this concept Every day they trainin training they practice the same techniques over and over relentlessly The same foot movements the same punches the same combinations For new fighters newcomers it feels like overkill alien at first but repetition enforces muscle memory breeds conviction Through continuous drilling everything begins to happen automatically And then in the match fight a the boxer can go into war God mode and rely entirely on rely on muscle memory In wrestling for example I found the threshold somewhere around practicing a move times before being able to do it in a match It sounds ridiculous but I shadow box hours a day and have for most of my adult life I am often surprised by just how many people don t know what wins fights… Particularly marines never know this Its not part of their training which is somewhere south of hours of hand to hand training for the average leatherhead It is simple Footwork wins fights every time It doesn t matter what the sport Footwork trumps everything A fight completely changes every time you slide to the right The angles change The way you win a fight is you control the angles and your position against your opponent WYou can literally kill someone with just a simple left jab Punch him in the nose take a step back Do it over and over again and I guarantee they will eventually stop coming at you Don t get me wrong I have thrown my share of haymakers or even suicide punches but they are easy to block and leave you exposed Don t get me wrong they have a role and can definitely make a point But what wins fights is footwork Second BlogIn the startup world the companies that consider all the angles and train hard to become more agile will be the ones that can move fast and are ready to respond to changes Being slow to react or making the wrong decisions under pressure might not result in you getting brutally separated from your consciousnessーbut it could mean a knockout blow for your business The hot blood rush of a concussion can be difficult to deal with especially when everything turns grey…My advice for startups and individuals is simply don t get punched Stay out of reach Move Slide And constantly change the angles Tactics to Guide Your Blitzscaling PracticeIn the startup world the companies that consider all the angles and train hard to become deadly will be the ones that can move fast and are ready to respond to changes Being slow to react or making the wrong decisions under pressure might not result in you getting brutally separated from your consciousnessーbut it could mean a knockout blow for your business The hot painful blood rush of a concussion can be difficult to deal with especially when everything turns grey…My advice for startups and individuals is simply don t get punched Stay out of reach Move Slide And constantly change the angles of the attack Ari Libarikian is a senior partner of Leap McKinsey s business building capability He explains that “the companies that have stayed at the top for decades are always regenerating This is really a requirement to being successful today Serial business builders like Amazon Google and Facebook are always regenerating They adapt to changes in their environment and constantly launch new products services and business ventures In other words they have mastered the art of blitzscaling For that to be possible for your business you have to forget almost everything you learned in business school Here are nine counter intuitive principles of blitzscaling to guide your efforts in practice Embrace the ChaosExcuse my French but I fucking love chaos I was designed for War Business War requires Mmaking speed paramount at the expense of efficiency order and stability have to go out the window means things will get a little haphazard You must accept that your business is in for a bumpy ride in the quest for product market fit Turbulence can be fun and is fun Hire Ms Right Now Not Ms RightSome people might be a great fit for the latter phases of blitzscaling but less suited to the earlier startup phases Aim to recruit the right people at the right time Similarly be prepared to let people go as you grow Practice “Bad ManagementIf you re truly embracing the chaos the structure of your organization will bend and mold multiple times each year Worry less about keeping things organized so you prepare to handle unexpected challenges Launch a Product That Embarrasses YouA perfectionist won t succeed in this game You need to jump in the ring and start making mistakes You might get embarrassed but the sooner you get your MVP into customers hands the quicker you can get feedback that helps you iterate and improve I was an awful wrestler until one day I wasn t Be awful until you aren t Let Fires BurnThe second of Kravernetes Tenants is to “be vigilant in identifying and addressing challenges When you re trying to grow quickly you won t be able to handle every problem Focus on the key strategic areas that will fuel your growth or the major issues that could potentially ruin you Forget everything else Do Things That Don t ScaleWhen the Airbnb founders went banging on doors doorknocking to take quality photos of their listings they knew it wasn t a scalable solution But sometimes before you can scale you have to do the things that matter by any means possible Courage and bravery are important The Gods will reward you Ignore Your CustomersGetting feedback from customers will help you improve your product with every iteration But you must figure out how to scale your customer service to appeal to a broader audience which will mean letting some issues go in the early days Raise Too Much MoneyA defining aspect of blitzscaling is the inefficient use of capital Having a large war chest is a defensive tactic to protect scaleups from crashing and burningーbut it can also work offensively Having deep pockets will enable you to take advantage of new opportunities that arise as you scale at speed Evolve Your CultureStartup founders will set the tone for company culture but it s by no means set in stone As your company grows and adds more people the culture will naturally change |

RTMP vs WebRTC vs HLS: Battle of the Live Video Streaming Protocols |
https://dev.to/100mslive/rtmp-vs-webrtc-vs-hls-battle-of-the-live-video-streaming-protocols-278b
|
RTMP vs WebRTC vs HLS Battle of the Live Video Streaming ProtocolsLive Video Streaming has successfully made the jump from a novel ground breaking and elite technology to a ubiquitous mode of communication and data consumption in our everyday life be it Social Media Entertainment Sports Education the list goes on This content was originally published HERERecently we added Virtual Background in video calls on Android with Webrtc In the post pandemic era the demand for video has amplified as home bound individuals produce and consume hundreds of hours of video for work meetings family reunions hanging out with friends online education and everything in between Zoom s average number of users jumped from million in December to million in April Cisco s Webex doubled its users to million between Jan March In this gold rush for live video the integration of video streaming in all types of applications has become essential Given the explosion in demand developers managers and organizational stakeholders are investing more time effort and money in understanding video than ever before Have you heard of SurfaceViewRenderer It s the very end of a long WebRTC chain that gets video from other people to your screen As always the best place to start is the basics This piece will explore the fundamentals of how video travels through the internet highway via video streaming protocols It will also offer insight into deciding which streaming protocol might be the right fit for the next video application you want to build But let s answer the most obvious question What are video streaming protocols Video streaming protocols spell out the rules for sending and receiving multimedia segmenting the stream into multiple chunks and enabling playback in the right sequence from one device to another across the Internet Each protocol has its own pros and cons and it s important to consider which would best fit into your business requirements and meet customer expectations To start with let s have a look at the most frequently used video protocols the three titans of the video streaming “empire so to speak RTMP vs WebRTC vs HLS RTMP Real Time Messaging Protocol The DuskRTMP or Real Time Messaging Protocol was developed by Adobe to enable high performance live streaming of audio video and data between a dedicated RTMP streaming media server and Adobe Flash Player The primary intent of this protocol was to achieve low latency and reliable communication by maintaining a persistent connection between the streaming server and the video player In layman s terms it can deliver a reliable video stream from the source to the viewer in under seconds of delay on average With the above features It s no wonder that RTMP was the de facto protocol for live video until early Its marriage to Flash Player gave it a huge reach and compatibility with most browsers of the time Cons of RTMPAs more modern clients like mobile and IoT emerged in the last decade RTMP started losing its ground due to its inability to support native playback in these platforms The Flash Player was also taking a hit from the new kid on the block HTML With the slow decline of Flash support across all clients the sun has almost set on RTMP delivery channels Yet RTMP continues to live on as a popular channel for the first mile delivery known as RTMP Ingest which transports media from the encoder to media streaming servers All top media streaming platforms such as Youtube Twitch Facebook etc utilize RTMP Ingest to live stream video from publishers HLS HTTP Live Streaming The DayHLS or HTTP Live Streaming Protocol was launched by Apple in as an open specification for delivering media over HTTP which is then playable with HTML players Following the rise of HTML HLS took over the reins of video streaming by offering robust reliable media distribution that can scale to hundreds of millions of users with the support of CDNs Today HLS is widely used by all browsers mobile and LR platforms to facilitate video consumption and streaming A key advantage of HLS is its use of Adaptive Bitrate Streaming ABR which greatly enhances viewer experience and stream quality ABR allows for multiple renditions of the same video to be sent to each client Depending on the network conditions the client can navigate through available streams to generate a smooth playback experience with better quality and minimal buffering In other words they can select video quality based on their network strength HLS also supports DRM encryption Digital Rights Management a high security mechanism to protect the content it is streaming This makes it the ideal choice for last mile content delivery by all streaming and OTT providers Cons of HLSFor live video streaming the main drawback of HLS is latency As opposed to RTMP the video is not transported as one continuous stream from the server to the client It is broken up into smaller segments of a certain duration and sent over HTTP Clients can start playback only after receiving a full segment Taking into account the time for ingesting the source generating multiple renditions distribution over CDNs and final playback buffer requirements latency can easily peak at seconds in HLS This is an absolute no go for many applications involving peer to peer interactions conferencing etc Though Apple came up with an HLS extension for low latency LL HLS in it s still in the early stages of conception and usage WebRTC Web Real Time Communication The DawnWebRTC or Web Real Time Communication is an emerging technology for enabling real time video audio and data communication without any plugins Simply put it allows real time video and audio communication to work inside web pages Initially developed by Google as an open source project for browser based communication WebRTC as a specification was published by WC World Wide Web Consortium along with IETF in Over the next few years WebRTC has gained the support of major players like Apple Mozilla Microsoft Google Opera and more Many of the modern browsers have extended native support for WebRTC The adoption of WebRTC has been steadily increasing to mobile platforms and even in the IoT space WebRTC works on a long stack of protocols to abstract the media engine codec and transport layer into a bunch of APIs The web developer just has to use these APIs to capture the media from a webcam set up a peer connection and transmit the data directly between any two browsers across the world with less than milliseconds of latency ABR is also supported to a limited extent WebRTC simulates where multiple video renditions are generated and selectively forwards only a single rendition to each client based on their network conditions Cons of WebRTCThe challenge however lies in scaling Due to the intense bandwidth configuration required to support multiple peer connections WebRTC natively does not scale well beyond a few thousand connections at most Yet the promise of the standard is kept alive as customized WebRTC CDNs are slowly coming up with innovative modifications to offer sub second video delivery to over a million users RTMP vs HLS vs WEBRTCRTMPHLSWebRTCLatency seconds seconds lt milisecondsScaleLimited due to persistent server client connections Needs special RTMP proxy to scaleMillions of viewers≤ viewersQualityNo ABR Quality depends on the bandwidth availability of the clientsABR enables excellent network adaptability and superior qualityWith simulcast quality can adapt to network conditionsReachIs nonexistent in the last mile delivery due to the decline and eventual death of FlashCompatible with all HTML players Supported by all client platformsCurrently supported by most modern browsers iOS and the Android ecosystem Build Live Video with msAt the end of the day there is no single winner among the video protocols that can solve all challenges of enabling live video at present For most applications a combination of the three aforementioned protocols work best by neatly bridging gaps in the entire lifecycle of video transmission from ingest to delivery At ms we are solving the complex challenges of scale latency and quality across the protocol stack to deliver the gold standard in video at cost to our customers Our SDKs built on the core of WebRTC successfully overcomes scalability issues by using the SFU routing of media as opposed to regular Peer Peer architecture Furthermore with a robust SFU scaling solution and a hybrid model of live streaming integrated with WebRTC ms can support high concurrent volumes ranging from concurrent conferences listeners to about simultaneous super bowl events gt k listeners As the world of video constantly expands video protocols also need to adapt and support the needs of the future The last protocol standing will be the one that is the most flexible yet stands on a strong foundation that promises consistent and optimal levels of operability At ms this is our exact goal By tapping into the strengths of the best of what video protocols have to offer we are building a world class solution that combines functionality ease of adoption and affordability Join in Solutions Architect Tips - 3 Tricks For Keeping Sight Of The Bigger Picture |
https://dev.to/aws-builders/solutions-architect-tips-3-tricks-for-keeping-sight-of-the-bigger-picture-2mhd
|
Solutions Architect Tips Tricks For Keeping Sight Of The Bigger PictureOne of the best parts about being a Solutions Architect is coming up with the architectural design for new projects You get to explore new technology come up with new patterns and build something from scratch All things that software engineers love When asked to design project after project people tend to lose sight of the grand scheme of what they re trying to accomplish Each project narrows their vision a little bit until they have complete focus on an individual project This leads to features that feel out of place in your application They end up being feature complete but they aren t cohesive in your app because you had tunnel vision You might have accidentally lost sight of the big picture because you were so focused on completing this one specific project It happens to everyone We all need some reinforcement on what we re actually trying to do If we leave things alone without stepping back every once in a while we tend to drift away from the bigger picture You can t see the forest through the trees Today we re going to talk about steps that you can take to help prevent this drift leave some of the detail behind and focus on your end game Establish Guiding PrinciplesIf you haven t already you should come up with guiding principles for your work These don t have to be specific to solutions architecture or even to a specific product But they do need to be written down and formally agreed upon AWS has a set of leadership principles that drive how they operate day to day These act as pillars for everything they do from hiring leaders to solution design By establishing your guiding principles you put up a set of checks and balances that help steer your work in the direction your company wants to go With these principles it is your responsibility as a Solutions Architect to make sure your designs fall within the boundaries Follow the norms set up by your company and the big picture falls right into place Every design you come up with must take these into consideration If you start to stray you ll start missing the bigger picture and build something you don t want You might be wondering How do I come up with these guiding principles Great question Talk to the leaders around your organization See what their goals are for the product you re working on What do they want to accomplish Find the overlaps What are multiple leaders saying Who is particularly passionate about something These are the launch points for your guiding principles You need to take the thoughts of these individuals and turn them into actionable pillars that drive development Stop RushingYou re going to be asked for a quick turnaround on your plans That s just a part of business Everything has a deadline But it s your job to be responsible with the time you take Remember is the year of async Take the time to step back and see where this new project fits into your guiding principles If it doesn t fit you should consider having a talk with the product owner on implementing a different solution Have you ever run to the grocery store to pick up one thing You walk in go straight to the aisle where you know the product lives grab it and leave You get home get ready to open it up and realize that you picked up a different variety than what you wanted Its kinda what you wanted but not really You rushed to get through the grocery store because it felt like a quick grab and go But because you rushed you didn t pay attention to the small details and see that you grabbed the wrong flavor The same applies to designing software as a Solutions Architect Even a basic project could fall into the quick and easy trap and you can end up with something that doesn t quite fit the mold With software you can have it fast or you can have right You rarely if ever can have both We ve talked about the responsibilities of a Solutions Architect before You know the steps to being successful Draw a diagram or two Ask why Pair existing pieces together with new projects But above all else take your time There is something called the x x x rule with development The earlier you catch a problem the cheaper it is to solve If you address an issue in the planning or development phase it s x the effort If you catch it in QA or when your automated tests are running it s x the effort If you catch something in production it s x the effort to fix As you get further into the SDLC more and more people get involved which multiplies the amount of effort Treat Each Project Like a Piece of a PuzzleI have some friends who love to do house projects They are constantly doing something new When one project finishes they begin a new one The quality of their work is exceptional and looks professionally done when you look at one project in isolation But when you take a look at their house it feels a little disjointed Each project was done without taking the house as a whole into consideration Each project is done very well but they don t go together When approaching a design as if it were a piece to a large puzzle your designs will be more cohesive and fit into the bigger picture better You must consider your application and overall ecosystem when coming up with new project designs Don t do what only needs to be done for that one project Hone in how it plays with your app and identify other areas that are affected by the proposed changes New projects are rarely isolated They are almost always enhancements to existing functionality or a new feature that will add to the toolset of your application ConclusionUnfortunately there is no magic bullet for keeping sight of the bigger picture But you can ask yourself these simple questions when coming up with your design Does the project adhere to your guiding principles Did you put in the appropriate amount of time and effort in your design What role does this project play in your ecosystem By answering these questions you will come up with a design that fits in with the bigger picture Nobody wants a Frankenstein application Something that has a bunch of cool parts individually but they don t make sense together A delightful application feels cohesive and uniform throughout As a Solutions Architect you are the first line of defense for making your application great It is your responsibility to make sure the parts play well with each other and flow seamlessly With everything it takes practice to make sure your design fits the bigger picture But over time it will be easier and easier to remember the three questions to success Best of luck and happy coding |
