海外TECH DEV Community Building accessible forms https://dev.to/inthepocket/building-accessible-forms-15pm Building accessible formsOn September th In The Pocket signed the Digital Inclusion Charter to underline our commitment in fighting digital exclusion In this post I ll explain how this can applied for form submission In the example which can be found on GitHub a user is able to fill in his her name and email address which will be validated in remix when submitting the form There s two states of the form The first one will occur if there are any validation errors and the second is a toast message which will appear and dissapear when the user has successfully submitted the form First up want to see a demo Just head over to this StackBlitz app click the Open in New Window in the header and enable VoiceOver Native browser behaviour Before I started coding specifically towards React Remix I first had a look at how native browser validation behaves If we take a look at the screenshot above we ll notice that browsers validate input fields one by one Meaning that if we have an error that input field will be focussed and an unstyled and rather ugly browser popover will be displayed with an error message This is important because when we want to create anything custom we should take the native browser behaviour as a base for our validition Users expect certain UI to be consistent as it makes it easier for them to navigate a page Custom validationBecause we re always striving towards spectacular UI and UX we decided to implement the following improvements towards this form Validate the entire form when submitting the form Show all validation errors in a styled error message underneath the input When there are no validation errors display a success message Validating the entire form is easily done thanks to Remix s action function and yup All I had to do was create a function that validates our form data based on the validation schema and return each error The specific code isn t present here because it would bloat the post so again another incentive to have a look at the GitHub repo To show the validation errors in a styled error message we created a span element for each input element and bound our error messages This leaves us with this beautiful validated form AccessibilityNow that we have a beautiful UI thanks to custom validation let s improve the UX by implementing the best features of native browser behaviour and make it accessible thanks to the use of some aria attributes After reading the Web Accessible Initiative tutorial regarding forms we are able to make our forms accessible by using thefollowing code const Index gt const toastRef showToast useToast const actionData useActionData const formRef useAccessibleForm hasErrors actionData hasErrors errors actionData errors showToast return lt main gt lt Toast role alert aria live polite gt lt Form method post aria label Personal information form noValidate gt lt div className form group gt lt label htmlFor first name gt First name lt label gt lt input type text id first name name firstName aria required aria describedby first name error gt lt span id first name error aria hidden gt actionData errors firstName lt span gt lt div gt lt Form gt lt main gt There are three things which help to make this form accessible First up a toast component which has an alert role and and aria live attribute The alert role is used to communicate an important and usually time sensitive message to the user Seeing as form validation is quite important this attribute fits perfectly However as the docs state the alert role also causes aria live to be set with the value assertive meaning it will interrupt the user s screenreader In order to prevent this we set the aria live attribute to polite Second when the form contains errors the useAccessibleForm hook will generate all errors create a human readable error message call the showToast function with this error message Because the error messages are shown underneath the input fields we don t have to show the toast Thanks to the aria live attribute however the screenreader will still read this out Last to bring everything together we re hiding the error message for the screenreader space In order to add the relationship between the input field and the error message we can use the aria describedby attribute which will ensure the error message will be read out after the user navigates to theinput field As you can see thanks to a little effort we were able to make the web a better place for people who require a screenreader There s plenty of other things we can do to improve accessibility and usually it comes down to our mindset hope this was useful and you ll probably see some more in the future Original blogpostGitHub repo 2022-03-29 08:29:45
海外TECH DEV Community What is ReactJS? Ultimate Guide for 2022 https://dev.to/vedantoneclick/what-is-reactjs-ultimate-guide-for-2022-1lp6 What is ReactJS Ultimate Guide for What is React ReactJS is a JavaScript library developed by META in It gives developers the ability to create interactive web applications or what is commonly referred to as Single Page Applications SPA React takes its cue from how users interact with websites and the components of following that initial interaction through a DOM based application React is a JavaScript library that helps you build large scale web applications by creating a reusable UI User Interface system It was originally developed at the META headquarters in and since then it has been powering Facebook s website As React is open source other developers have been able to use it for their projects as well The size of its library makes it very lightweight and quick to load while also being very powerful for complex applications React is used for user interfaces on both mobile and desktop platforms It may not be perfect for all apps however it is of great help for multiple types of apps or while making an app from the scratch or for adding animation effects React would be the right choice What is ReactJS In JavaScript a “reaction doesn t refer to a sudden negative confrontation Instead the word “react is used to describe a file property that tells a browser how it should handle content that is returned from an AJAX call The popular JavaScript library ReactJS advertises itself as being perfect for building large data driven applications and offers an easier way to create single page web apps Many developers swear by this framework because of its relatively lightweight templates or templates without many lines of code that fill in the details but still allow the developer room for creativity React code will often live side by side with HTML code on either end of any given document making it much less intrusive than other frameworks like AngularJS Who Created ReactJS Jordan Walke has been using tech for years to engage human beings on a larger scale so that technology can help them gain a global viewpoint He is a software engineer who uses his talent in developing functionalities in a way which helps to improve the welfare of those in need In he invented ReactJS as an open source library of JavaScript He decided to make it free for use as he believed that software developers should have the liberty to decide to use it or not Without such liberty given to its users this software architecture might be left on the shelf for years until someone else uses its talents for their own benefit Top Core Components of ReactJS What is a Component ReactJs component is an independent and reusable component which divides the large UI into smaller pieces React has two types of components functional and class Let s look at each one of them in detail A Functional Components The functional component is a plain javascript you do not have a choice to set the state in functional components There is no render function we use in functional components it only accepts the props as an argument B Class Components Class components are a little more complex than functional components We have a feature to set the set state in components We have a render function that is used to return the react elements In class components we have both options to use the props and set the state also Most Important Features of ReactJS One Way Data FlowReact makes one way data bindings easier than any other framework out there by enforcing unidirectional data flow which helps eliminate common problems like mutable state and spooky action at a distance Entire data in a React application flows in one direction from parent components to child components Any changes which happen to the data are automatically reflected in the UI It s easier to reason about your application when its data flow is predictable Component Based ArchitectureReact views are composed of reusable components which aid in the reuse of code and the separation of concerns This makes components easy to test and re use across projects The component based architecture also encourages good practices like separation of concerns and code organization which give developers much needed structure when building large applications Declarative UIReact provides a simple way to describe how your application should look at any given time This declarative form of programming promotes the separation of concerns and makes it easier to reason about your code Virtual DOMReact makes it very fast to update the user interface by creating a JavaScript representation of your UI called a virtual DOM the JSX discussed later When any changes are made to this virtual DOM React automatically compares the new virtual DOM with the old one and only re renders those components that need updating As a result updating the user interface feels almost instantaneous because only updated pieces are actually rendered Top Key Benefits of ReactJSThe benefits of ReactJS are numerous Collaborators designers and developers all seem to be in agreement that it saves time provides flexibility and enables better communication between teams Combining this with low developer training time requirements on the order of hours ReactJS is becoming an increasingly popular choice for web application development We ll go into further detail below as to how to go about incorporating ReactJS for your next project Take a look at some of the most common reasons why to use React js Development SpeedReact is “batteries included out of the box with a large number of open source modules and packages available for you to start using right away saving you the time and energy that would be typically required to research and implement your own solutions So let s say we re building a photo gallery application in ReactJS Here s what it might look like The components are basically just HTML some JS functionality on top so it can be fairly easy for other developers to take over and add functionality As a result many developers refer to using React for single page applications Isomorphic and Universal AppsIsomorphic and Universal apps are basically React web apps that behave the same when accessed from desktop tablet or mobile This is one of the key benefits and goals of ReactJS to allow for easy future scaling without losing any of your development investment Rich Interactive Apps and WebsitesNot only is React useful in developing traditional websites and web applications it is also useful in creating rich internet applications RIAs This allows you to add interactive elements like slideshows or animated charts to your website Here s an example Famous Apps Built With ReactJSFollowing ten apps have been built using React AirbnbInstagramFacebook MessengerNetflixSpotifyTwitter Bootstrap built with Webpack Wix BuilderWhatsAppSkyscannerDropBoxMost React apps require HTML CSS and JavaScript However a common misconception is that they require TypeScript though they are written in JavaScript ConclusionReact is a powerful library that has been a boon to those who want to create rich and dynamic applications The ability of React to encapsulate the whole UI into components which can be rendered and modified over time its advances in a unidirectional data flow and its one way reactive prop system provide a foundation for building complex apps quickly and with minimal overhead However as it stands today there are many missing pieces before we can claim to React as the single solution for all of our web app needs This article explores some of these missing pieces and how they affect the future of React applications development 2022-03-29 08:21:45
