Google Official Google Blog Growing Cloud in the Middle East with Dina Amin http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/MKuf/~3/6N1Em-fZJdQ/ Growing Cloud in the Middle East with Dina AminWelcome to the latest installment of our blog series “My Path to Google These are real stories from Googlers interns and alumni highlighting how they got to Google what their roles are like and even some tips on how to prepare for interviews Today s post is all about Dina Amin the Head Of Cloud Marketing for the Middle East Turkey and Africa Dina is based out of our Dubai office and has spent the past years in the city after falling in love with it during a three month stay The Middle East is not only deeply rooted in her present but also in Dina s past growing up between the U K Jordan and Iraq  How would you describe your role at Google From a day to day perspective my team and I are responsible for generating awareness of Google Cloud and Google Workspace products among existing and new customers Our products help companies with their digital transformation ambitions so this is a particularly interesting challenge during a time when many companies are transitioning online  As part of my role I have also been fortunate to be on the team responsible for some of the largest and most exciting geographic expansion projects that we are working on in Google Cloud What else are you involved with at Google outside of your core role I m very involved with and previously led the Women Google Chapter in the Middle East and North Africa This role is one that I was very proud to hold because of the opportunity to help drive positive change in the company and our communities Outside of work one of my favorite interests is being out at sea My most recent adventure was getting my skipper license last year Another way I make sure to get out to sea regularly is through wakesurfing which Dubai s weather makes possible all year round What inspires you to log in every day I m inspired by the feeling of delivering moments for our sales team to connect with their customers These moments truly bring the whole team together in a bonding experience One of my favorite and most powerful examples of this is Cloud Day which is a one day immersive event where Google Cloud executives partners and customers share how the cloud is transforming business and improving the lives of people around the world My team was able to deliver this format in two main hubs ーDubai and Istanbul where more than people joined us both in person and digitally Given we are a small team it was a huge mission for us to achieve and we are so proud to have done it What made you decide to apply to Google At the time I was completing my masters in business and had heard that a guest speaker from Google was coming for a talk on campus I was interested in learning more about the company and different opportunities so I decided to attend I showed up early to the talk and saw that the speaker who turned out to be the Managing Director of Google in the Middle East and North Africa needed some help setting up We started talking and I quickly realized how exciting this line of work sounded The guest speaker encouraged me to apply and I really got inspired after the talk so I decided Google could be a good fit for me   Almost six years later and two different job paths at Google I definitely feel I made the right choice joining that talk and applying to Google It truly shows you that you never know where any opportunity may lie What resources did you use to prepare for your interview I used a lot of different resources when preparing for my interview but I think there are three that were the most useful The first was reaching out to Googlers and meeting them to learn more about their experiences This helped me understand more about the company and the Googlers in their usual fashion were very open to help  The second was utilizing my business school s career counseling services It s a service that may be undervalued but it makes all the difference to get guidance from counselors who have witnessed a variety of different career paths  The final resource was prepping with common interview questions to get more comfortable with these types of questions Here s a list of best practices advice and tips for interviewing at Google Any tips you d like to share with aspiring Googlers Always keep in mind that a career path does not have to be linear Each person has their own path to take that may have twists and turns The key is to stick with it and keep searching for the path that sparks passion within you I was a computer science major but I ve experienced sales marketing operations technology and strategy jobs while traveling or living in at least countries I loved these experiences as they helped me become a lot more comfortable and confident in knowing myself as a professional and knowing what I bring to the table 2021-08-17 15:00:00

海外TECH DEV Community Share state using custom hooks https://dev.to/frankiesardo/share-state-using-custom-hooks-5245 Share state using custom hooksMany articles have been written about React state management strategies for React and yes this is yet another one of them But rather than talking about a new library and how everyone should adopt it I want to talk about two different philosophical approach to state centralised vs decentralised The decentralised state paradigmDecentralised state has been the battery included solution since the first version of React Class components can edit local state to trigger a re render and functional components can accomplish the same with the useState hook Local state is very intuitive to manipulate because it sits near the component that uses it for display and side effects it s allocated when needed and disappears when the component is unmounted The centralised state paradigmKeeping all mutable state in one place is an approach championed by Elm ClojureScript and Redux a single data structure usually a tree contains all the state needed to render your React application When a branch of that tree changes state the relevant components in your React hierarchy re render displaying the new information A single point of reference for the entire app state is a very neat idea and feels like a natural evolution on top of React itself React abstracts DOM changes with components the app state abstracts component changes with a big JSON value Since all changes are represented with data the logic that transitions the app through different states is very easy to express and to test it s just a function f currentState event gt newState It s also easy to generate many valid UI screens by mocking the app state speccards generates random valid UI states based on a spec Problems with decentralised stateLocal state becomes problematic when two components need to watch and act on the same state Think about a simple currency converter where the user can edit either currency text input In this case the naive solution is to lift the state up to the closest parent and give all children callback functions to manipulate the state Lifting State Up in vanilla ReactThis rarely scales for bigger applications so something like Recoil might be needed for more powerful sharing Problems with centralised stateYou can easily get started with centralised state with the useReducer hook and keeping all state inside the top lt App gt component passing down state as props wherever they are needed What you ll find soon enough though is that components far away from the root will require forever more information and you ll have to drill all the props through the tree until they reach the correct component This again doesn t scale for large applications so some forms of subscriptions to parts of the state tree are required to keep the app performant and easy to extend You might need something like the hook version of Redux How the two compare in terms of Developer ExperienceI have always been a huge advocate of the centralised approach It appealed to me because of its functional purity and how it made accessing and manipulate state much easier in the pre hook era I have since changed my mind and I d like to explain why Centralised state gives you the illusion of correctness The state neatly transitions from one pure value to another thanks little functions that encapsulate your business logic You might even have tests for those functions that say something like When button is clicked Set the loading indicator to true Clear the input field Send an http call to the serverExcept that when you actually run the app the behaviour is not what you expected The problem is that your logic is far removed from your UI components and while sound and correct in principle it doesn t play well with your render code It might be because the state has a different shape but more often that not it s because the intended values are not added to the state at the right time Modelling your app as a succession of states works well when you deal mostly with synchronous interactions like a game but starts to show its limit with more asynchronous behaviour like fetching new data over the internet It s easy to describe how the data changes but not how the data gets there in the first place So you might end up with an infinite spinner because an action has not been triggered or received at the right time e g when the user navigated to a new screen Annoying when that happens eh Colocating state effects and uiAdvocates of the centralised state approach have a great argument UI should not care about state management and side effects it should just care about displaying values Extract the logic somewhere else and test it While poignant in principle this doesn t work well in practice The reverse tends to be true it s useful to think about components as fragments of the screen with a well defined behaviour They can trigger actions listen to events and manipulate state that affects other components Over the last year I ve been writing components with complex behaviour fully expecting things to break and knowing I ll be refactoring them with some centralised solution To my surprise this nontrivial large app kept on getting bigger and accumulating new features without getting significantly more complex I would even say it scaled in ways that Redux ClojureScript or Elm apps haven t been in the past even with less formal proofs tests types of correctness A hook with a nameConsider this componentfunction ItemList const auth useUser const itemsPerPage usePreferences const searchQuery useSearch const items useItems auth itemsPerPage searchQuery return lt ul gt items map lt ul gt To me it clearly communicates its dependencies inputs and how it uses them for display Moreover these inputs are not just static data but a combination of state and effect useUser returns the current user info if logged in otherwise it triggers an authentication flowusePreferences gets saved data asynchronously from IndexedDBuseSearch extracts the query parameters in the current urluseItems ties everything together getting the items server side and caching them for future uses When each one of these dependencies change the url parameters or the local storage being cleared or the user token expiring the hooks will take care of re fetching and re rendering the component Custom hooks that encapsulate caching are also a great way to share data between components user preferences and remote data all reside in memory and only need to be fetched once The first component that uses the hook triggers the async behaviour and all the other components can subsequently access it free of charge You can even go one step beyond and wrap this behaviour in a hook itself function useSearchItems const auth useUser const itemsPerPage usePreferences const searchQuery useSearch const items useItems auth itemsPerPage searchQuery return items So you can have the same list of items in two different part of the application say the list itself and a Count indicator somewhere else Hooks can be seen as a dependency graph what they require other hook calls and what they provide the returned value Editing this graph is really easy if you stick with React hooks and don t go outside of it with centralised state management This patterns composes really well and scales as you create new components Need another components to access this list It s a one line change Don t need access to that data anymore Removing the hook or the component itself means it s not fetched in that screen anymore State what s cached behaviour which effects load and invalidate the data and UI can be closely linked together again so they evolve organically together with your app There s an app for thatWriting hooks manually that load cache and invalidate it s obviously time consuming and there s no need to do that when there are great libraries out there already React Query obviously stands out with its incredible DX It works with http graphql and any asynchronous behaviour really e g IndexedDB This library alone gives you so much leverage it might be the only solution you need If we re talking about state sharing without asynchronous behaviour then Recoil might be a good addition too If you re using custom hooks with a descriptive name it won t really matter which library you use underneath Prefer thisconst repos useRepos To thisconst data repos useQuery repoData gt fetch query then res gt res json A real world exampleIt s always best to show how ideas are implemented in practice rather than just talking about them so I ve created firebuzz appPlayers can buzz to answer questions and receive pointsYou can browse the source code and it particular the hooks folder over here 2021-08-17 14:04:25

海外TECH Engadget Scuf Gaming one-upped Microsoft with its new Xbox Series X/S controllers https://www.engadget.com/scuf-gaming-instinct-pro-hands-on-xbox-140030783.html?src=rss Scuf Gaming one upped Microsoft with its new Xbox Series X S controllers“Luxury isn t really a word you associate with gaming controllers but when you re spending on a gamepad that s essentially what you get The fact is just masked by words like “Elite and “Pro One of the companies making controllers at that level has been Scuf a brand that even collaborated with Microsoft on an official high end gamepad Now the team at Scuf is taking its expertise to the Xbox Series X S with the new Instinct and Instinct Pro which bring back fan favorite features like an interchangeable faceplate while also improving the buttons and switches I was sent the more expensive Instinct Pro though rest assured that even the cheaper model is still high quality They each come packaged in a patterned black box that feels more appropriate to jewelry than gamer gear The standard consumer version will come with a black faceplate but the one I received was printed with a map pattern in black gold and blue I really like it even if I m not a fan of the FPS games it s meant to invoke The faceplate comes off with a firm pull though five magnets underneath ensure it ll stay put during your gaming sessions Kris Naudus EngadgetThe d pad also comes off easily when pulled with two fingers but my attempts to dislodge it with my left thumb while playing were thankfully ineffective However the package does not include a replacement What is included besides the controller is one USB cable two AA batteries and two convex thumbsticks one short and one tall To swap these in you need to pry the faceplate off then pull at the thumbsticks so forcefully it feels like you re doing something wrong The replacements can then be snapped into place though it might take a few tries to get the pegs to line up with the holes on the back of the joysticks Kris Naudus EngadgetThe front of the gamepad s layout contains the standard array of buttons plus a mute switch for any headset that may be connected to the mm port on the bottom The back however is a different story Scuf has included four buttons just south of the battery cover which can be mapped to duplicate any of the front buttons However unlike the long paddles found on the company s other controllers these instead consist of two flaps molded into the controller casing that jut out slightly along with two buttons in between them Your middle fingers should rest comfortably in the two concave nooks the buttons create and flexing your fingers backward is enough to push those flaps so you never have to shift where your fingers rest as you do with your thumbs on the front of the gamepad and forefingers on the shoulder buttons and triggers Kris Naudus EngadgetThe triggers on the more expensive Instinct Pro have also gotten a bit of a redesign Previous Scuf products allowed players to adjust the sensitivity and install trigger stops that gave them a shorter pull like a mouse button Now the triggers can be adjusted on the fly thanks to a set of switches that can flip the buttons between the traditional long pull like you d prefer in a driving game to a shorter mouse click for weapons fire Each trigger can be adjusted independently too which can make the feature useful for even more genres The last new feature on the back is a button that allows you to switch between three different configurations ーthe controller comes preprogrammed with settings for FPS battle royale sports and racing titles The settings can be changed on the controller itself by holding down the profile button until it blinks and then holding down the paddle you want to change and the button you want it to emulate Kris Naudus EngadgetAside from all the bells and whistles the Scuf Instinct Pro has a really nice premium hand feel It s solid but not heavy and the grips have a rubberized hexagonal pattern that allows airflow to prevent excessive palm sweating I can t tell you how it feels compared to other Scuf controllers but matched up against the standard Xbox gamepad or recent releases like the Turtle Beach Recon Controller it feels premium Which it should given that it s so much more expensive Like all Scuf products the Instinct and Instinct Pro are for professionals and other people who take their games seriously enough to spend hundreds of dollars on gear 2021-08-17 14:00:30
