15 things I wish I knew before becoming a digital nomad |
https://dev.to/join_hyve/15-things-i-wish-i-knew-before-becoming-a-digital-nomad-1hgi
|
things I wish I knew before becoming a digital nomadYou can find the article here It sounds idyllic but the life of a digital nomad is a balancing act between benefits and challenges Digital nomads are a growing trend New technologies and remote work have opened a world of possibilities for this type of profile Some choose it because they want adventure and a break from the daily routine others because they want a change of scenery others just because they want to travel the world as they work People are leading more towards a life of freedom as opposed to the traditional to office job We have the luxury of mobility available to us now more than ever What is a digital nomad Digital nomads are usually people who combine working remotely with traveling to different countries and locations Nomads are also different from expats and immigrants usually nomads stay in one place for such a short time that they don t have to become legal citizens in that country One thing to keep in mind is that the terms digital nomad and location independent are sometimes used interchangeably but there is a significant distinction In reality not every digital nomad earns enough to live and work anywhere Getting started as a digital nomadThe ability to travel and connect with people all over the world while still earning a living is my favorite thing about being a digital nomad Here are the lessons learned from facing unique challenges as a digital nomad in the pursuit of freedom Have multiple sources of incomeFor digital nomads estimating the real cost of living requires more than simply adding up the cost in a particular area and dividing it by the time spent there This is because digital nomadism entails additional expenses such as Transportation within and between destinations Higher short term lodging costs Becoming a digital nomad is not a straightforward path therefore you should have an income plan regarding how you are going to achieve this lifestyle Find out what you are passionate about and enjoy doingIt seems like there is an endless list of digital nomad jobs that you can do to make money There are plenty of jobs catering to a variety of skill sets you just have to identify what you re really good at At the end of the day you don t want to be doing a job just for the sake of having a job or starting a business just for the sake of owning one It takes you nowhere in either success or passion Being a digital nomad is not always a safe career so you better get involved with work that you are passionate about and can leverage for the future Ensure internet connection and online securityWhile Wi Fi is a must have for digital nomads cybersecurity should be equally prioritized too Connecting to an unsecured Wi Fi network can expose you to cyber risks and privacy concerns setting back your work Being constantly on the move means that you are vulnerable to hacks and attacks just like everyone else Therefore you need to know the security basics to keep yourself safe Be organized and plan aheadGoals without a plan are nothing but dreams The most important thing you need to become a successful digital nomad is to prepare yourself before starting your new lifestyle Having a routine and a good working connection with your clients before you hit this road will ensure you have a steady income and a good grasp of the work expected of you Get travel health insuranceThanks to many who choose this lifestyle international health insurance has become more affordable than ever You can now easily get location flexible health care whenever and wherever you need it The most popular health insurance options for digital nomads are Safety Wing and World Nomads Do your researchA lot of people tend to underestimate the cultural differences between countries It is extremely important that you do your research before visiting a new country especially if it is very different from your own culture Spend the time looking into different places to make sure your choice is the best fit Make a list of amenities you absolutely need to work and live Then make sure anywhere you choose will provide them Join a digital nomad communityOne of the major downsides of working remotely while living abroad is the sense of isolation If you re feeling lonely or lost in your business you may need to lean on these fellow nomads during the bad times From border hopping to finding new clients to having someone to trade secrets for finding cheap flights being part of a community makes it easier to be a successful digital nomad Learn how to master the work life balanceBeing a digital nomad can be tricky you are able to explore beautiful places and enjoy them but it might not last long if you enjoy it too much and forget your work therefore a digital nomad has to find the perfect balance between work and leisure When managing work and social life as a digital nomad keep trying to do what works best for you and don t be too hard on yourself if things don t go as planned Be realistic about your priorities and valuesMost freelancers are wondering if being a digital nomad is really worth it Nomad life vs settled life can be a difficult trade off You re embracing uncertainty and adventure over stability and comfort This lifestyle allows you to get to know yourself your likes and dislikes the means of travel you prefer how you prefer to spend the day Being a digital nomad does come with a fair amount of isolation as you might expect but you should take advantage of this time to really get to know yourself and define what you want Choose the right destinationCities and regions throughout the world can be ranked and filtered using online tools such as Nomad List There are various places where digital nomad culture is quite popular These places have a relatively low cost of living plenty of co working spaces and high spirited culture Mexico Argentina Bali Buenos Aires Taiwan Bangkok Set yourself up for financial successMaking positive financial change isn t a one time event it s a constant commitment When it comes to your finances get specific about what you really want to accomplish For instance how much do you want to save each month What are your investment options Take calculated risks such as moving to a city with lower costs of living or taking on a new job that pays less but has more upside potential Make the most of your flexible scheduleOne of the great aspects of being a digital nomad is being able to set your own hours and get your work done when you re most productive Some digital nomads work for three weeks and then take one week off Other digital nomads work daily for a couple of hours each day Some treat it like a to job in a foreign country enjoying mostly evenings and weekends abroad You need to find the schedule that works best for you Choose the right time to travelBefore choosing when to travel it s best to analyze your work and find out when you have the least workload during the year Traveling throughout these months will compensate for the time you ll need to adjust to your new surroundings and deal with all your responsibilities Think about coworking spacesWhen you re nomadic and need to spend several hours a day in front of your laptop you may soon find out that working from your rented apartment may be tedious and cafes may have too many unwanted distractions Coworking spaces let you work and hang out with other entrepreneurs or freelancers and will also increase your productivity Some coworking spaces also have initiatives and incentives that further allow members to be part of the communitySelf management is essentialSelf management that supports your self awareness and well being leads to improved emotional intelligence This means staying on top of social cues and respecting your own personal needs Establish start up and shut down rituals schedule them on your calendar and stick to them And remember balance is dynamic Take some time to consider in what ways you excel at self management and where you might improve Digital nomads and the future of workThe future of work is already being shaped by digital nomads with increased flexibility becoming the new norm and co working spaces springing up in every city As interest in digital nomadism has spiked during the pandemic the term is increasingly becoming wider a sort of new and upgraded digital nomad You can travel every week or you can choose a home base and stick around in one country for a longer period of time It s up to you Once you figured out how to make money as a digital nomad you can either enter the gig economy by marketing and selling your services on your own or you can find work opportunities on decentralized blockchain based freelance platforms like HYVE This is where were at A year ago the world couldnt imagine the way we all live nowadays The patterns around us are breaking and we have a historic opportunity in designing our lives Are you building a life based on a design someone handed you or do you want to decide on your own You dont have to sell your belongings or travel the world if you dont want to You do have to think for yourself This digital nomad lifestyle is achievable if you really want it and put your mind to it Want to learn more about HYVE Follow us on Twitter ️Join our Telegram Group Join original underlying DynamoDB tables Videos of the weekAWS Genomics CLIThe AWS Genomics CLI or AGC removes all the grunt work involved in setting up bioinformatics pipelines to run in the cloud We know that Snakemake Cromwell NextFlow and miniWDL all work happily in the cloud on AWS Batch but AGC means you don t have to know to set all that stuff up it does it for you You can have completely separate tool chains using completely different workflow languages all running at the same time on the same infrastructure if you like sharing data and tooling Brendan Bouffler and Lee Pang from the dev team that built this shows how it works and most importantly how easy it is to get productive Zero to hero in less than mins it s really impressive Events for your diaryIf you have an event you Hoisting in javascriptHello everyone In this post we ll look at the Concept of Hoisting in Javascript We ll go over everything you need to know about hoisting and why it s crucial to know Don t forget to bookmark this page so you can come back to it later General MeaningMeaning of the Word In English hoisting implies to raise anything using ropes and pulleys To put it another way we may say that we are bringing something to the top Now let s talk in terms of Javascript Meaning lifting variable declarations to the top refers to the process of bringing variable declarations to the top or before the variable usage What then is Hoisting Hoisting is JavaScript s default behavior of moving declarations to the top A variable is created when a declaration is made i e var a Initializing involves giving it a value i e var a for example var a Declarationa Initializingvar a Declaration amp InitializingA variable in JavaScript can be used before it has been defined Simply said everytime you declare a variable in javascript whether after or before it is used the javascript engine in the browser moves that variable to the top preventing the browser from returning an undefined error This signifies that javascript declarations are hoisted and hoisting is the act of bringing declarations to the top a Initailizedconsole log a usedvar a Declared output gt var a Declareda Initailizedconsole log a used output gt Because every declaration advances to the top of the current scope both will provide the same result to the top of the current script or the current function Declarations with let amp const Let and const variables are hoisted to the top of the block but not initialized Meaning The variable is recognized by the block of code but it cannot be used until it has been declared If a let variable is used before it is defined a ReferenceError is thrown similarly using a const variable before it is declared will return a syntax error hence the code will not run for example leta fotie let a this will result in a reference errorconsta fotie const a this code will not runIt s worth noting that JavaScript only hoists declarations not initializations Thanks for reading DID YOU LIKE THIS POST FOLLOW FOR MORE Originally published on codementor on Mar |

React Native State vs PropsThe question that confuses most beginners in react What is the difference of props and state Lets clarify this Props includes data which we give to a component State includes data that is local or private to that component So other components cannot access that state it s completely internal to that component Lets say we have a Counters component import React Component from react import Counter from counter class Counters extends Component state counters id value id value id value id value render return lt div gt this state counters map counter gt lt Counter key counter id value counter value id counter id gt lt Counter gt lt div gt export default Counters If you take a closer look at the render method of the Counters component lt Counter key counter id value counter value id counter id gt lt Counter gt All attributes we are setting here are part of the props the input to the Counter component We cannot access the state of this component It is local and internal to that component Props is read only for example lets look at the Counter component import React Component from react class Counter extends Component state value this props value handleIncrement product gt this setState value this state value render return lt div gt lt span className badge badge warning gt this state value lt span gt lt button onClick gt this handleIncrement id className btn btn secondary btn sm gt click lt button gt lt div gt export default Counter Look closer at the helper method handleIncrement which increments the counter by one handleIncrement product gt this setState value this state value If we update the handleIncrement method to update the props value like this handleIncrement product gt this props value this setState value this state value And we increment it in the view we would get this error So react does not allow you to change any props to any component If you would like to modify the input during the lifecycle of a component you have to get that input and put it in the state like initially done in the handleIncrement method handleIncrement product gt this setState value this state value More information about state and propsFor more information about state and props visit the react docs |

Angular vs React in 2022: Which Is Better for Your App, Project, or Business? |
https://dev.to/eluminoustech/angular-vs-react-in-2022-which-is-better-for-your-app-project-or-business-5e3m
|
Angular vs React in Which Is Better for Your App Project or Business Which one should I choose Angular or React for my app project or business As an Angular and React web development company we ve grown used to that question over the years After all both JavaScript technologies have dominated the web development scene of the s Angular js in the initial years after its introduction in and React in the years after its debut in To counter the latter a completely reworked Angular was released in So how does one choose between two proven web development frameworks libraries That is precisely the question we are going to answer in this Angular Vs React comparison We compare the two on a string of technical factors that might impact the viability of your app or product and by extension your bottom line We did a similar Flutter vs React comparison to help you choose the right mobile development framework in As with this post that one too pits an upstart framework Flutter against an established one React Native to give you a winner Do give it a read if you are looking to chart out your mobile development strategy for the future Angular vs React Web amp Mobile DevelopmentA versatile frontend development option that can work for both web and mobile platforms is essential Fortunately both Angular and React can be used for web as well as mobile development Most of the mobile development work in Angular is done using the Ionic framework Similarly React can be used with the Cordova wrapper to produce cross platform mobile apps However there s another and far more popular way of developing mobile apps with React React Native React Native is a full fledged mobile development framework that helps you build apps with near native UI and performance Angular s answer to React Native NativeScript is competent but nowhere near as popular Angular vs React Learning CurveAngular has a steep learning curve mainly due to the framework s sheer size and complexity Furthermore it uses an intricate component management system and a programming language TypeScript that takes time to get the hang of There are also multiple ways to solve a problem in Angular which can throw off new developers and those who are used to fixed approaches It also doesn t help that Angular is constantly updated thus keeping you and your web developers on your toes In contrast React website development is easier to learn especially if you re already well versed with JavaScript However you do have to put in extra efforts to learn libraries like Redux which is used for state management in a majority of React apps And while React too is frequently updated the effect is mitigated by the presence of established best practices Angular vs React Development SpeedMultiple factors affect the development speed with these frontend technologies For instance Angular is a comprehensive software development framework that lets you implement all essential functions without the need for external libraries In contrast React requires additional libraries like Redux and React Router for implementing essential functions like state management and routing respectively This also means you can set up and start developing with Angular quicker than with React Another area that might slow down development speed with React is the need to design an app s structure before development That s because there is no universal structure for all apps in React unlike Angular s fixed structure Some of these issues with React might not sound all that troublesome But if you have a large development team or a higher churn rate it pays to go with a more streamlined option like Angular Angular vs React Development Tools amp TestingBoth Angular and React are evenly matched when it comes to the choice of tools You can bootstrap a project in both technologies using CLI tools and edit the code with tools like Visual Studio and Sublime Text But where Angular outshines React is testing You can fully test an Angular app using a single tool like Jasmine Karma and Protractor In contrast you need several tools to test a React app inside out examples include Jest for testing the JavaScript code Enzyme for testing components and React unit for testing units Although the choice of React developer tools is vast and varied it does make the testing process longer when compared to Angular Angular vs React PerformanceAngular has historically trailed React in performance when it comes to more complicated and dynamic web applications That is mainly due to Angular s two way data binding where each binding is allocated a watcher to keep track of changes in the DOM More the number of bindings more the number of watchers created and slower is your app s performance Since React js development uses one way data binding no watches are created for the bindings and as a result app performance is fast It also helps that React uses virtual DOM which helps with quicker updating and faster rendering compared to the real DOM used in Angular However recent updates to Angular have whittled down React s performance advantage to a great degree For example later Angular versions let you choose between one way and two way data binding Moreover apps made with Angular are slightly smaller than apps made with React in terms of size Angular vs React SEOIt s universally acknowledged that server side rendering is better for SEO than client side rendering In that sense Angular and React should be on an even keel as server side rendering can be implemented in both But in practice things are not as straightforward Implementing server side rendering is notably easier to React than Angular as the latter might need the use of additional tools and coding Although later versions of Angular have plugged this SEO performance gap Reactjs web development remains a better bet if SEO friendliness is an important criterion Angular vs React Documentation Popularity amp Community SupportReact pips Angular when it comes to documentation Most of the existing documentation for Angular revolves around the now outdated AngularJS Angular s rapid updates also haven t left much room for the emergence of comprehensive and accurate documentation This is unlike React where updates to the library and documentation are more streamlined and predictable The baggage of AngularJS also haunts Angular in terms of popularity The former was infamous for its needless complexity among other things But Google rectified that and many other issues with Angular and subsequent versions This shows in the bustling Angular GitHub community where both versions of Angular have close to stars together The React Github community is even larger and more active with stars and counting From a business perspective this might make it easier to hire dedicated developers than Angular ones The Angular vs React popularity contest is closer still if you go by the Stack Overflow developer survey The chart below shows Angular and React are neck and neck in terms of popularity with developers However a more discerning picture is painted by this graph from the State of JS Survey It shows React beats Angular hands down when it comes to satisfaction interest and awareness among developers using the two frontend development technologies Which One Should You Choose We hope you got the answer to which one among Angular and React is better for your project with this comparison But if you still find yourself undecided here s a quick checklist you can refer to for choosing the appropriate frontend development option Choose Angular web development if Your app s complexity level will be between low and medium Your team is well versed with previous Angular versions C and Java You want to build a scalable and feature rich application from the ground up Choose React web development if You plan to add more features to your app in the future Your team is well versed with HTML CSS and JavaScript You expect a large number of components to be reused across applicationsOf course this is not an exhaustive list by any means There are a great many nuances to selecting the right frontend technology for your app project or business that might not always conform to these broad outlines But the fact remains that you can t go wrong by choosing either Angular or React The latter has matured to a great degree while the former is progressively getting better with each new version release As a Custom web application development company in India for years we ve worked with both technologies extensively If you have an app idea that you d like to explore give us a shout out Hire Reactjs developers who will help you pick the right technology after poring over your requirements constraints and business goals View Original Angular vs React |

TypeScript syntax summary |
https://dev.to/andrehatlo/typescript-syntax-summary-2a4g
|
TypeScript syntax summaryI use this blog to store information I may need to refresh up on at a later date Reference to FlavioCopes blog a great place to learn TypeScript is one of the fastest rising technologies of This brief summary is filled with what you need to know to understand its key concepts TypeScript is built by Microsoft Its open source developed public at A superset of ECMAScript also know as ES which means that any valid JS is also valid TypeScript Run npm install g typescript to globally install the TypeScript compiler on your system available to you using the tsc command Create an app ts file Write your first program const greet gt console log Hello world greet As you see its just plain JavaScript but stored in a ts file Compile the program using the tsc app ts command The compiler compiles the program into a new file app js with this content var greet function console log Hello world greet Just like old JavaScript the TS compiler compiles TypeScript to ES by default which means that its almost guaranteed to be suppored by all modern browsers To change the compilation target to another version for example to ES run the following tsc app ts target ES const greet gt console log Hello world greet Here almost nothing changed except for the additional semicolons Play around with TS to JS compilation check out TYPINGMost important functionality provided by TypeScript is the type system static typesinterfacestype interenceenumshybrid typesgenericsunion intersection typesaccess modifiersnull checkingIt resembles languages like Go or C so if you ve coded these languages you already know how this works Unike dynamic languages like Python or Ruby this is all new The type system allows adding types to variablesfunction argumentsfunction return typesGiving a more rigid structure to your programs This is how You define a string variable in TypeScript const greeting string hello A function accepts an argument of a specific type const multiply a number b number gt return a b You declare their return value const multiply a number b number number gt return a b Valid types are numberstringboolean enumvoidnullundefinedanyneverArraytupleany is a type that identifies as its name says any type CLASSESLike JavsScript you declare classes like this class Car Defining class fields class Car color string Fields are public by default You can set a field to be private or protected class Car public color string private name string protected brand string Private fields can only be accessed by the class that its declared in Protected fields can only be accessed by deriving classes TypeScript also has static fields which are class fields instead of object fields class Car static numberOfWheels initialize fields with a constructor class Car color string constructor theColor string this color theColor Shorthand syntax to make it simpler class Car constructor public color string printColor alert this color new Car red printColor A field can be read only class Car readonly color string in this case its value can only be set in the constructor Class methods class Car color string constructor public color string this color color drive console log You are driving the car You create objects from those classes like in JavaScript using the new keyword const myCar new Car red You can extend an existing class using the extend keyword class ElectricCar extends Car Call super in the constructor and in methods to call the extended class corresponding method ACCESSORSGetters and setters class Car private color string get color string return this color set color color string this color color ABSTACT CLASSESTo define an abstract class there needs to be a class that extends it and implements its eventual abstact methods abstact class Car abstract drive class SportsCar extends Car drive console log You are driving a sports car INTERFACESInterfaces build upon basic types Use an interface as a type and its interface can contain other type definitions interface SetOfNumbers a number b number const multiply set SetOfNumbers gt return set a set b multiply a b An interface can also be an interface for a class implementation interface Car name string new brand string drive void class SportsCar implements Car public name constructor public brand string drive console log You are driving a sports car FUNCTION FEATURESFunctions can have optional parameters using the symbol after the parameter name class Car drive kilometers number if kilometers console log Drive the car for kilometers kilometers else console log Drive the car Parameters can have default values class Car drive kilometers console log Drive the car for kilometers kilometers Functions can accept a verying number of parameters by using rest parameters class Car drive kilometers occupants string console log Drive the car for kilometers kilometers with those people on it occupants map person gt console log person new Car drive Andre Peter Roger ENUMSA great way to defined named constants enum Order First Second Third Fourth Simply reference Order First Order Second etc You can assign values to constants explicitly enum Order First Second Third Fourth or use strings enum Order First FIRST Second SECOND Third THIRD Fourth FOURTH GENERICSA new feature not available in many programming languages You can create a function interface or class that works with different types without specifying the type up front It is mutable so if you change the type at compile time the compiler will throw an error We could do this by omitting types to all or using any But with generics all the tooling is going to be able to help us Example function greet lt T gt a T console log Hi a name greet name André The T symbol identifies a generic type the type can be resistricted to a certain class family or interface using the extends keyword interface Greetable name string function greet lt T extends Greetable gt a T alert Hi a name greet name André WANT MORE We just went over the basics of TypeScript go to the official docs for more |
