How do I know if it’s burnout I’m feeling or something else? |

How do I know if it s burnout I m feeling or something else This is an anonymous post sent in by a member who does not want their name disclosed Please be thoughtful with your responses as these are usually tough posts to write Email sloan dev to if you d like to leave an anonymous comment or if you want to ask your own anonymous question I have been a developer for a number of years working my way from graduate junior to now an experienced senior I have loved the climb and generally known when it felt right to move onwards and upwards A bit of background I was working for a startup which should have gone live by or roughly around the time the pandemic hit The small team thought we had got the system in a place to have been live but the founder was hesitant and when the pandemic hit pulled the plug all together on the project and the company focus switched drastically to a domain I was not familiar with nor ever felt a need to be part of I d had bad experiences of this domain before It got to the point where my workload pretty much depleted to nothing yet the company was growing in number and the people who seemed to have been handed responsibility for my work became massive bottlenecks as they didn t know what they were doing I spent weeks telling the founder the equipment provided for my role was inadequate and yet nothing was done until I asked for one of the cloud dev environments the company was supposed to have rolled out years before but hadn t although it was still on the todos list Feeling redundant I sought new employment and successfully gained employment elsewhere Now on probation I find it hard to get going at the full power I once was at forever saying nothing because my opinion obviously doesn t mean very much if my last company just glossed over it I am scared of failing probation and failing the family my energetic and eager approach to my coding career now supports Is this burnout Do I just need to get confidence back by being my best and letting my new team decide its merits for themselves Do I need to stop worrying I am the sole provider for my family |

Prefer using Flutter's SingleActivator instead of LogicalKeySet if you can | LLF #7 |
https://dev.to/nombrekeff/prefer-using-flutters-singleactivator-instead-of-logicalkeyset-if-you-can-llf-7-1jei
|
Prefer using Flutter x s SingleActivator instead of LogicalKeySet if you can LLF Hey there It s been a while since I added to the Let s Learn Flutter series I ve been quite busy over the last months but have some time to start writing again In this short post I ll go over a little problem I encountered recently with using LogicalKeySet to define keyboard shortcuts on a web app we re building at work I ll explain what the issue was how to fix it and in the end explain some differences between LogicalKeySet and SingleActivator I recently needed to use shortcuts on a flutter project at work I needed to have keyboard shortcuts so I did the usual thing you do look at the docs for them here I was in a bit of a rush and just glanced over the guide a mistake on my part So by the example in the guide I decided to use LogicalKeySet to define the ShortcutActivators After implementing the feature while testing I found a weird behaviour with the LogicalKeySet in MacOS using the meta key as reported in this issueIf you define your ShortcutActivator using LogicalKeySet for example let s say you want to detect cmd b note this only happens when using the meta or cmd key on mac If you press cmd b and before second press just cmd again the action is called Even if the b key is not pressed in conjunction with cmd I reported this behaviour and they told me this was a known flaw of using LogicalKeySet and advised me to use SingleActivator instead They also pointed me to this comments which explains a bit more about the issue and why it works as it does Takeaways Read the docs carefullyIf I had read the docs carefully I would have read a note kinda hinting at this Prefer using SingleActivator instead of LogicalKeySetThis is of course if you can There might be situations where you might need to define more than a single key SingleActivator limitationsAs mentioned above SingleActivator can only take a LogicalKeyboardKey as the trigger as opposed to LogicalKeySet which accepts a series of LogicalKeyboardKey instead More resourcesUsing Actions and ShortcutsShortcuts classCheers |

Is anyone interested in contributing to an open source software built with Go Please join to develop a no code workflow engine SummaryI am developing an open source workflow engine called Dagu I am writing this article because I am looking for new contributors If you are interested please take a look at the GitHub repository What is Dagu Dagu is a no code self contained easy to use workflow engine built with Golang and ReactJS You may wonder what no code means I ll explain A workflow engine is a tool like Airflow which was developed by Airbnb and is very popular among data scientists and DevOps engineers A workflow is a series of business processes or tasks executed according to a schedule or event A workflow engine represents the dependencies of tasks as a DAG which stands for Directed Acyclic Graph By representing a series of tasks as DAG it is much easier to execute multiple related tasks in the correct order according to their dependencies Not only can you interpret and execute your workflow as a DAG but you can also visualize the dependencies between tasks and represent complex workflows in a way that is easy to understand This is the beauty of a workflow engine like Airflow What s the difference from Airflow And Why So why am I building a new workflow engine now Why not just use an already popular workflow engine The reason is that Airflow and Prefect require you to write Python code to define DAGs The system I am working with has already been in operation for over ten years and has hundreds of thousands of lines of code written in other languages It is practically impossible to rewrite these codes in Python And while it is possible to call existing code from the Python code this would complicate the situation even more I searched all over the Internet for a lightweight workflow engine that is easy to use while still leveraging existing code but no desirable tool existed for such a use case So I decided to develop a new workflow engine Dagu which allows you to define DAGs in a simple YAML format So in that sense Dagu is no code in terms of the way to manage workflows compared to Airflow Prefect and Luigi Since it s just a YAML file that define commands to execute existing programs can be easily called without modification These features make Dagu an easy to use workflow engine for smaller use cases and projects with a smaller number of people Dagu is an alternative to a code based workflow engineI have implemented it in my projects and have seen great results Complex task dependencies have been clarified and highly gerrymandered and inefficient operations have been greatly improved Furthermore we have been able to eliminate unnecessary code and streamline the codebase itself which was not possible with Airflow in my case However a great deal of effort is still required to develop Dagu If you are interested in Dagu please feel free to participate in its development What needs to be done now is summarized in the following TODO issues Please take a look at it if you like Any kind of contribution will be welcomed Thank you so much for your attention |

Netflix is using subscribers as focus groups for unreleased shows |
https://www.engadget.com/netflix-advance-screening-focus-groups-131140189.html?src=rss
|
Netflix is using subscribers as focus groups for unreleased showsNetflix is turning to a conventional strategy to improve its originals the focus group Variety has learned Netflix has been screening movies and TV shows in advance to obtain feedback from subscribers invited to participate Customers reportedly watch several titles over the course of six months and fill out a survey to indicate what they liked hated or would change The company confirmed that it s running focus groups but only in the US The panels have reportedly been active for roughly a year These screenings have been mainstays in Hollywood for decades and are used to make edits when producers want a title to reach the broadest possible audience Terminator s ending was changed after a focus group rejected the initial version for instance As in those cases Netflix is using the groups to make sure its originals are received well and keep viewers coming back The company is very familiar with experimentation It has tested everything from random show selection through to mobile games However testing show content is relatively new While it s not clear what prompted the new approach Netflix is facing mounting pressure from rivals who are chasing awards and the customers that sometimes follow |
